greenie -> Dickens Style outfit (11/25/2005 11:25:52 AM)

i'm going to the SF Citadel on 12/3 and it's a Dickens theme. Any suggestions on an outfit both dickens and lifestyle themed? And this is for a female also. Money is tight so i can't afford to put too much money into this. HELP!!!

Do a web search for Edwardian and late Victorian costumes and see what you can adapt.

don't forget, Salvation Army, Goodwill and that ilk is your friend. Seems to me in the late seventies or so, edwardian style suits made a comeback for a time, edwardian collars can be made with a little sewing easy. Victorian style or edwardian style may be found there also...who would wear that, save a kinkster?

Here is a link to most, if not all, of the named characters in Dickens' literature:

Character Glossary

It gives a brief description of each character, and their place in the story. You might read through it, and see if there are any themes that catch your eye. Then you can google that character, and see lots of costume ideas from illustrators, movies, theaters, and dealers.

(If you are at all into the idea, you might try the Ghost of Christmas Present, and pull a bit of the goth aspect of the lifestyle into a costume. She is a light as opposed to dark character, though.)

You could always do a period riding habit, complete with whip. I've always thought those outfits were very sexy and ultra-feminine. Plus, it fits with the Dickens theme and the lifestyle orientation.

I personally don't care about "lifestyle themed" cuz I find black/red leather/latex/pvc fairly boring.

But there are tons of victorian and other period costumes and even specific Dicken's stories costumes available online.

If you want something you can pull together- black boots, a monochrome dark velvet skirt and blouse, a hooded capalet and muff, lined in fur should be just the trick.

i thought about going as a poor orphan and then i could say "Please Sir, i want some more" lmao. It was Dickens who wrote Oliver Twist wasn't it?

Yep. It sure was.
