Anyone make your own gear? I have always enjoyed making things with my hands so naturally the thought of making my own gear is something I have been meaning to do and plan to start toying with as soon as I have a shop and money for materials.

So have any of you made your own toys? Stocks, posts, restraints, floggers, anything? And how did it work out for you?

I have made most of the things in my toybag and my dungeon. Leather stuff. restraints, floggers, paddles, claws, canes, furniture. I make some leather stuff to sell, but mostly to pay for my other toys, and for travel to kink events

I've stopped in at some tack shops, and they have books on leatherwork and braiding leather. These techniques could easily be modified for use in making floggers and the like.

I've been making my own gear for several years now. Gone so far as to start a company. I have some flogger pictures in my profile. It's taken several years to get to this point. But I just don't get the same thrill from using a store bought toy.

As of the last couple years, I don't do restraints anymore. I'm a rope geek, so I never use them, and I don't feel right making things I don't use.

But recently, I've started teaching myself some woodworking. If you're just starting out and don't really have a large collection of tools, I'd recommend starting with leather toys. You'll need far less money up front. However... If somebody out there were doing nicely finished pieces such as stocks and other furniture with hand tools using high quality woods, I'm sure there's a market.

I'm always happy to share information with others who are excited about making their own toys. So, if you have any questions that fall within my realm of expertise, it would be my pleasure to answer them.

i made a flogger for Master, im really proud of the braided handle, it took me ages to do. i dyed the leather purple and teal, Masters favorite colors. i love when he uses it on me, its extra special cuz i made it.

i also made a set of wrist and ankle cuffs. They are red suede with D rings and do up with velcro. Absolutely love those.

I have made all but 2 of my own floggers. A freind made me 2 matching floggers from elk. I use copper pipe for my handles..I use steel wool, very fine, polish it up and then coat it in a poly sealer..I have gotten many compliments on them..I also have made string ones with bicycle handle grips..Very simple but very sensual..I just couldn't learn to braid right. So, I found other means..
I also use leather and suede skirts from thrift stores. I rip them and cut them into strips..Occasionally I have bought leather but not often.

Respectfully,
sultry

I love to make my own toys...it's cheap and fun.

Enjoying my Gags, much better now, BalletBob

I am in the process of making homemade spreader and control bars right now. You can pick up 1 1/4" thick poplar wood dowels for fairly cheap at your local hardware store (About $3.00-$4.00 each). They typically come in 48" lengths, so you can cut them down accordingly and make more than one from each dowel. Eye bolts, chain, and quick links are cheap to buy as well for your attachment points. I'm staining them a nice Jacoba wood finish and then sealing them for an attractive and professional look. In all, I've spent about $20 on materials which will produce four or five spreader/control bars, depending on how you choose to cut them.

They won't, by any means, cut it for suspension applications. But they will work just fine for your regular imobilization needs. And the fact that I'm making them myself lends an extra air of excitement to the whole process.

with a little time and effort you can make almost any thing you could desire.
Floggers, canes, rods, restraints all you need are some basic tools found around the house. stocks and larger furniture may requier some tools that are n ot in the typical house tool box(saws sanders and such) Sewn goods hoods straight jackets can be made by hand but would take a great deal of time and persistance.

I just had 40... yes 40 - English oak "spreader bars" made by a local joinery company on their super-duper wood-turning machine. (OK, so I didn't tell the lathe operative what they were intended for.) They they are all precision cut items - alternating square and circle cross sections with beautifully bevelled edges. Various lengths from 6" to 3'3". All I need to do is sand them down, and apply whatever stain and varnish I want, and attach the metal hardware... looks like a trip to the local DIY superstore for me.

"40?" I hear you cry... Well 40 was their shortest run, even for personal customers, but the total cost? £100 + VAT.

Deviancy on a budget!

TRANSLATION , BEST I CAN DO

Greetings Wolf;

Do you know that you could use poured rubber, if you can make your own molds, like those toy spiders ?

I don't have the AMAZING ability a top has in B & D having to do with knots and making things, i.e. building harnesses for the human body. I [can] barely make a knotted string dress. I bought an already made bodyharness and the tops at "show and tell" (if that's a physical place, a business, it should be capped) verbally took it apart, I barely understood bits and pieces (tops in B & D seem to have their own vocabulary). This was the cinch, this is a bridle, and these {two} are reins. The main ingredient is the D ring, so I imagine you can get toy parts at the tack shop, but if you want to start from scratch see an expert graphics novel for blueprints and patterns, who wants to have it made ? There you'll find the raw ideas.

Sublimination is hard, if not impossible to do, so if you can bring an Ms imagination into reality, you're not too far from an expert.

This is the first one of these that I was able to read, it worries me. Albiet this was a shorter one, the guy has something to say, and I am now worried about my mental health. You can't even delete commas because there are no spaces there ! AAAArrrrgggghhhh !!!!

James; You take the time to write so that people understand you. Please look at what I've done to your post. Get off those commas for one, hell you don't even have to capitalize sentences around here ! Always put a space after any punctuation mark, and that includes periods !

As I said it is YOUR time taken up typing to express yourself, endeavor to make it worthwhile by making it so people can understand you. If necessary, remove the comma key from your keyboard. It would surely help.
