No, what's ironic is the way people drag this teen's personal life through the dirt for some supposed political gain of some kind after the message that the left preached about Bill Clinton's little escapade with a certain young intern.

Can you tell me why moveon.org is named moveon.org, and then tell me with a straight face that its okay to attack this family's personal life?

So, a woman who is opposed to teaching teenagers birth control and instead believes they can be told to "just say no" to sex, and whose daughter ends up pregnant, doesn't seem the slightest bit ironic to you?

Better to ask why this supposedly devoted mother would accept the position knowing that this would put her daughter's unwed pregnancy in the media spotlight.  Would you have done the same or would you have opted to protect your family first?

And please spare me the moralizations.  We both know Republicans would be all over this in a heartbeat if she was the Democratic VP.  You used Bill Clinton's indiscretions as an example.  Did you and the other conservatives who bared every detail of his sexual encounters stop to think how it affected his daughter to hear these intimate details that were only designed to further embarrass, not to prove any point?

So now you are suggesting that because some folks are going to attack the private lives of children, it should prevent somebody from running for office?  That one's decisions related to running for political office are wrong because the fringe elements of the opposing party are going to attack your children?  OR is it only because she is a mother, and that fact should mean she is not fit to run for office?

How many kids does Nancy Pelosi have again?  What do you know about them?  Was Biden being an unfit parent when he as a single father, continued to serve as a newly elected Senator?

The double talk amazes me, and I know I shouldn't be surprised by it.  It seems that the modern feminist movement is not for all women's rights, it is simply for those women that agree with them politically.

I personally am not attacking a VP candidate...but facts are facts. IF... and I say if... she was a member of the Alaska Independence Party  then she should never have been selected as VP... And if it is true then  this reflects badly on McCain's competence and ability to make good decisions.

Forget about all the old drunk driving charges and pregnant daughters but...run a search on the Alaska Independence Party , check out their ideology, and see if you think she should be a potential president of the United States.

Butch

Allegedly she joined the Alaskan Independence Party in '94 attended their convention and registered as a Rep in '96.  So what does this say about the woman?  She joined a political party, she decided it wasn't for her, she joined a different party.  Seems it didn't take her over 20 years to figure out that  she didn't agree with the organization...

See where that is headed?

Let me clarify for a moment.  One particular candidate in the race joined a certain organization that preached some controversial things, he denied those things were said, then after proof they were said he claimed he wasn't there when they were said, then when proof of that came to light he said he didn't agree with them but was not going to leave the organization or the leader of that organization.... we all know the rest of the story.

Just putting things in perspective,
Thadius

OK Thadius... putting it in perspective...say she joined the Communist party for 2 years... or the Aryan Nation...or the Ku-Klux-Klan...would that also be acceptable to you? I do understand your position but I don't think this should have been overlooked and it should be a concern.

She didn't join any of those organizations... oh and whether she was a member of that organization was a claim... http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080902/ap_on_el_pr/cvn_palin_politics;_ylt=AijVqzofjmacCyHZ3ebtqmVh24cA

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's husband, Todd, twice registered as a member of the Alaskan Independence Party, a fierce states' rights group that wants to turn all federal lands in Alaska back to the state. Sarah Palin herself was never a member of the party, according to state officials.

However, since you brought up those other groups... Trinity doesn't bring up the same questions about Obama?

Thank you Thadius.

There's that.

And there's also the idea that had Mrs. Palin bowed out on account of her daughter's pregnancy then it would have hung over her daughters' head for the rest of her life that she had ruined her mom's career - a career that could eventually lead to the presidency.

Mrs. Palin is obviously doing her daughter a favor by staying in the race.

So your argument is that Obama is qualified and competent to be President because the Democratic Party says he is.

Well, hell, why bother with the election? Let's just skip straight to the coronation (or is it canonization?)

That's not my argument at all: its the way our system works. Its called Democracy. Your word-choice of "cannonization" is absolutely misplaced.

The same fact stands for McCain.

The difference between me and you, is that I would not hold myself superior to the millions of voters who have backed McCain by implying he's 'not qualified' to be President of the US. The fact is, he's been vetting through the primary voting process.

So, what's going to happen with the credit crunch? Any news on that? Or are they concentrating on healthcare for the moment?

bipolarber -> RE: Political: Oh, dem skeletons be rattlin' in the closet!! (9/2/2008 7:21:37 PM)

Just a few minor observations:

1) I wouldn't sweat the "Lies and Coverup" cover.... after all, we on the democratic side had to weather that crappy cover on the New Yorker, portraying Mr. and Mrs. Obama as terrorists. Your fucking turn, assholes.

2) I hardly think Palin's daughter is a big deal in this campaign. I just wish her, and her groom to be all the best, even though statistically, the deck is stacked against them staying together for more than five years. But it seems a little two faced of republicans to cry foul over this revelation, especially since six months ago, they were referring to Michelle Obama, in the most racist way possible, as "Baby Mama."

3) I don't think any of us can comment on Palin's delivery on her high risk child. We weren't there, and labor/delivery situations can change within a matter of minutes. Who knows? Maybe she was just desperate for her kid to not be born in TX... after all, the execute kids with mental retardation down there. Or worse, having to grow up with the stigma of being Texan in Alaska... (shudder)

Briena -> RE: Political: Oh, dem skeletons be rattlin' in the closet!! (9/2/2008 7:38:49 PM)

I think its funny that they passed up two more qualified VP candidates because they were pro choice... CANT HAVE DEM BABY KILLERS IN OFFICE!  MURDERERS!  Its just another issue that makes the republican party look completly freakin stupid.

Or passing up a woman that arguably got as many votes as Obama, for a man that has never been able to secure his party's nomination, and that had to actually pull out of a prior one because he borrowed a speech?  Hmmm, I think Palin's small town cast more votes than Biden received in the primaries...

Just sayin.

Thadius

All along I have been saying if... there are other links that say she was registered...or at least other members say she was. Personally I hope it is not true...but I want to know for sure... I guess time will tell. They will not let it lie that’s for sure.

But say she absolutely was a member would that change your mind about her suitability for office?

If she was not it would for me.

Butch

Thadius -> RE: Political: Oh, dem skeletons be rattlin' in the closet!! (9/2/2008 9:12:02 PM)

If it is true, and it would effect your vote.  Should not the same scrutiny be put towards those folks wanting Texas and California and New Mexico to seceed?

State records show no change in her registration, according to them she has been a registered Republican since 1982 and that she has never registered differently.  However, her husband had.

If you don't think that a husband and wife can belong to seperate parties, or hold seperate political beliefs, I would point you to James Carvell and his wife...  Or even the Gov of California and his wife.  Know what I mean?

The bigger issue other than pregnancy is STDs. I read a statistic that over 60% of female college freshmen have been exposed to HPV which is a leading cause of cervical cancer.

Birth control doesnt prevent many of these diseases.

Are you tossing out a red herring or do you really not know anything about HPV?

For anyone who truly doesn't know virtually all sexually active adults have or have had an HPV infection, if you really bug a doctor he can get you tested for the antobody (HPV digene test). Virtually all HPV infections are completely benign and you will never know you've had it. A few strains are responsible for genital warts and a few others can cause cervical cancer.

Getting girls and, hopefully soon, boys vaccinated against HPV prior to becoming sexually active will hopefully result in a significant decrease in cervical cancer rates, a particulary deadly cancer if you don't know.

However to be clear most strains of HPV do not cause cervical cancer or genital warts. 60% of college age women have the antobody but only a tiny fraction have any of the malignant or wart causing strains and even amongst those exposed to those strains most will never develop symptoms and the virus will clear naturally.

Thank you.

Briena -> RE: Political: Oh, dem skeletons be rattlin' in the closet!! (9/2/2008 10:09:04 PM)

Question: How Many People Have HPV?
Answer: According to the American Social Health Association, about 20 million Americans are infected with HPV. It is expected that 5.5 million will contract it through sexual contact each year. That makes HPV the most common STD in the world.

If you are sexually active, you have a 75-90% chance of contracting it sometime in your life!

That goes for everyone, not just women.
