...I remember GoddessDustyGold telling Me last year to have patience--out of that 200+ I came close twice, and now well--it seems I may have indeed found the man/sub for Me-and yes he is several miles away---so we know that we are on this site to have a sense of community--but how many of you found your sub/slave out of your own backyard?

*Smile* I should take My own advice. I am not even actively seeking right now. But maybe that is part of the "patience game".
To answer the question: All of My boys have been "in My own backyard". And there have only been 4 since 1990 (collars involved). I have never once, thus far, had any long distance exploration work out. This is not to say it can't. Just that it hasn't so far. And maybe it never will.
And I have had live-outs who fade very quickly. Not cyber slaves, but local boys who want to serve, but can't explore living in. I find it much harder to find a boy or boys who have the dedication to stick it out. It is always more like role play for them. "Yes, ma'am, I'm going to come over to clean your bathroom (or detail your car, or mow the grass, yada, yada...) and I'll bet you are mad at me for not keeping in touch as instructed, so I sure do deserve a mega beating!"
I am more here, at this point for the community. I am not expecting to find My slave.
But ya never know!

My experience with long distance relationships has not been favorable either. The concern was always on themselves, with little for me as a person, and only for me as their Domme.

The sort of no real strings attached was sometimes nice, and I knew when they were going home (versus working on my last nerve), but it always seemed to be about them and working as much into our brief times together that it was more exhausting than pleasure.

As an example, I had broken my back a few years ago and still made arrangements to top while laying down. Where there's a will...there's a way, right! Anyway, the time together was fun, but painful for me, as my back was only recovering less than a month. When this man...someone I knew for years, and had in my home whenever he could arrange to come into town on business, NEVER inquired to how I was feeling after....never asked how my back was....never asked how I was (even weeks after)....and, after this particular visit, I finally saw what we had...nothing. He's not the only one with such an attitude. I found I was more an "appointment" than really being his Top, and he was certainly not my friend. (This was also when I was first active, and chalk it up to a learning experience.)

My pessimism toward meeting someone from out of town was grown out of past experiences, and is why the backyard rule fits for me now. Yes, I shouldn't generalize about all men from out of town, or out of the area, but I find life's too short, and the backyard is pretty full anyway. Maybe I just need to move, and get my backyard into another neighborhood.

Which backyard are you going to pick? Let me know if you have any luck......... I am trying to figure out how to shed an utterly BORING man before I actually meet him for coffee. He is thrilled silly with me----and I have NOTHING in common with him AT ALL. Except that we were both in MDSS.

Let's move to San Francisco, or Miami Beach. At least we can shop there!

Oh gosh, he has called every day! And Demon that I am, I have been screening away..........

I have had this problem since childhood, pretty much---men I just don't want attaching to me. And I still can't handle it! I have always been an outsider/freak, for being deformed, for being the smartest, etc, and I took the side of the underdog long ago.

I should be proud that it's so hard for me to be mean, right? I just don't have it in me to make other people feel badly, in spite of the practice I've gotten from being on the receiving end!

:)Francine, sweet sadist

Although normally I would suggest restricting a search to your own backyard because of the many difficulties involved in a long distance relationship, I have learned that you need to keep your options open as well.

I was vacationing in Australia and met my submissive in July 2003. I lived with him for 4 months then we visited back and forth over the next couple of years while we ironed out the logistics. I did search in my own area while I was in Canada and found nothing suitable. Yet this submissive fit my needs beautifully. End result was that I moved to Australia in March 2005 and we got married in June. Fortunately I was at a point in my life where I could relocate and it has been worth it.

What do you mean?

Well, I networked with the lovely K, and took the coward's way out.....so I am not meeting him! Very freeing, saying no!

Also, I want to clarify something----the Detroit area is not a wasteland with no decent male submissives. There are actually many fine men here, some of whom are married to my friends! The thing is, I am not looking for anyone who is a self-identified slave or sub, and neither is K. Good thing we don't have the same taste in men, or there might have to be some kind of Solomonic decision somewhere down the line!
