Peggy Noonan speechwriter for Ronald Reagan.....
Asked by reporter Chuck Todd whether Ms Palin was “really the most qualified woman they could have turned to”, Ms Noonan said: “The most qualified? No! I think they went for this - excuse me - political bullshit about narratives.”
She later added: “Every time the Republicans do that, because that’s not where they live and it’s not what they’re good at, they blow it.”
Maybe it isn't only the Democrats with questions about the Palin pick?
Just curious about the conservative posters reaction??????

I'm not sure how pertinent Peggy Noonan is, nowadays.

I think it was a great pick.

A great pick, everyone keeps saying that.  Yet last week not one person mentioned her as a possible pick for VP. I looked for threads before McCain picked her and I can't find one person saying she would make a great VP or saying anything about her.

But to hear people talk now it's like she has been in the GOP spotlight for years

I will give the GOP this, they sure as hell know how to organize around someone.

As for Noonan, I just love the moments when they think they are off the mike

I think she's vying for David Gergen's job!

Right now, their well honed PR machine is all they have.

Colbert had fun with Republican hypocrisy last night. First they showed a clip of Karl Rove touting Palin's experience as a mayor as preparing her for leadership it takes as VP, then one from a few weeks ago bashing the Virginia governor's qualifications when he was rumored to be on Obama's short list for VP by saying how his experience as mayor of Richmond was essentially worthless because it is such an insignificant city.

Then they showed O'Reilly saying how Palin's pregnant daughter wasn't an issue and people should ignore it, then one from a few months ago bashing the parents of Britney Spears as irresponsible because her younger sister is knocked up and she is around Palin's daughter's age and also unmarried.

There was onother one too from one of McCain's staffers. All good stuff -- watch the reruns tonight.

The same machine that sold this country on GW for the second term and on the idea that invading Iraq was all about 9/11.

Let's hope people are pulling their heads out of their asses and getting smarter.

Couple of National Review articles (No I don't have the link, but one was by Jonah Goldberg) were critical of the pick as well.  The "traditional" conservatives, are sometimes at odds with the "religious right"  although they eventually all suck it up and stand together against their common enemy...the Democrats.

Actually, Newt suggested her about three months ago. His take on it was that the republican dugout was getting old, gray, and set in their ways. He felt that they had to reach out, and get some new, intolerant, religious nutcase blood going, or they would end up dying out, (or at least become insignificant on the natinal scene, remembered only as the party that "almost brought America to it's knees" after Bush) They would be like dinosaurs, bleating pathetically, while being slowly sucked down into a tar pit.

Gotta admit, when it came to picking an extremeist, intolerant, religious nutcase, with a history of abuse of power, McCain came through in spades!

Political hypocrisy always makes for entertaining satire.  The cast of SNL has a wealth of material from this election season.
