zakkan -> BDSM? (9/4/2008 11:33:30 AM)

It suddenly struck me that I had no idea what BDSM abbreviated, after hearing and reading about it for so long. I could guess a bit, but I had to do a google search to find out for sure.

Did anyone else here have the same experience?

No

daddysprop247 -> RE: BDSM? (9/4/2008 11:37:14 AM)

umm, no. but my introduction to the lifestyle was somewhat different than most..i learned about Dominance/submission and Master/slave as lifestyles before i learned about BDSM. still, i think i was aware what the letters BDSM stood for for as long as i've been consensually sexually active. it seems kind of strange that you would be reading about BDSM but have no idea what it meant?

You mean you've read about it for "so long" and had no idea till now what it meant?

It means Big Daddy Smacks Me right?

CallaFirestormBW -> RE: BDSM? (9/4/2008 11:39:29 AM)

I was told that it broke down as
BD
(Bondage,Discipline)
/DS

(Dominance,Submission)
/SM
(Sadism,Masochism)

*shrugs*

Aileen1968 -> RE: BDSM? (9/4/2008 11:42:51 AM)

I always knew it as bondage/discipline, domination/submission, sadism/masochism.

CallaFirestormBW -> RE: BDSM? (9/4/2008 11:44:11 AM)

You're right -- I put Domination in there twice and the first one should have been Discipline.

zakkan -> RE: BDSM? (9/4/2008 11:45:16 AM)

I guess I just never really bothered to find out until now. I know what it is, and how it is generally, but I just didn't bother about what the actual words are until now.

Doesn't make much sense does it?[sm=banghead.gif]

faerytattoodgirl -> RE: BDSM? (9/4/2008 11:46:21 AM)

d/s is learned when your young....you just dont know its d/s...but you are told what to do by your parents...and told what not to do thus are controlled.  as such the parents are the dom and your the sub.

if you do something wrong....you are punished.  thats discipline....also a part of bdsm.  when this happens you rebel.  a kind of a brat thing.

but then this isnt the way how everyone grew up.  guess its a bad example.

MzDeadlyRed -> RE: BDSM? (9/4/2008 12:15:58 PM)

A friend of mine cracked wise and said once:

BDSM = Bored Dummy Seeks Masturbation

[:D]

azropedntied -> RE: BDSM? (9/4/2008 12:16:10 PM)

No to the first question and again NO  it does not make  much sense  but learning is growth  and that's a great thing , keep learning and growing ..The dumbest question is the one never asked .

Hello Zakkan

You will get two schools of thought about the acronym of BDSM

Bondage/Discipline/Sadism/Masochism
and
Bondage Discipline Domination Submission Sadism Masochism.

It totally depends on the way you interpret the meaning of BDSM.  Is it something you do?  Or something you are?  If you believe it is 'do' then use the first.  If it is something you are, then the second.

For us, we choose the first.  D/s and M/s is seperate for us.  Just make sure you make yourself clear when communicating with potential dominants.

I pretty much knew what the acronym meant to me when I began exploring, but that is because I was already hanging with people who were participating.

FlamingRedhead -> RE: BDSM? (9/4/2008 1:49:22 PM)

I knew it as S&M and had no idea what the B and D were for.

ncprincess -> RE: BDSM? (9/4/2008 2:18:19 PM)

I grew up the same way. I learned very early where my boundaries were and is one reason I HATE spankings....*shudders at the memories of the belt from childhood*

sub4hire -> RE: BDSM? (9/4/2008 2:56:24 PM)

I learned in school many moons ago it meant Bondage, Discipline, Sado Masochism.

Of course people have changed it to reflect what they are more comfortable with over the years.

kiwisub12 -> RE: BDSM? (9/4/2008 5:48:30 PM)

hehe - i googled submission to find out just what it was that i wanted to do. Thats when i found out about bdsm,  and collarme.

DarkSteven -> RE: BDSM? (9/5/2008 6:01:22 AM)

You fools are all wrong.  It applies to women and stands for Be Dark Steven's Minxes.

IrishMist -> RE: BDSM? (9/5/2008 6:31:25 AM)

The letters mean different things for different people. Myself, I see them only as Bondage, Discipline, Sado/Masochism. For me, and only me [:D], they represent play, the actions/play that can enhance a relationship.

ROFLMAO.....

Icarys -> RE: BDSM? (9/5/2008 6:55:29 AM)

Bondage/Discipline/Sadism/Masochism was the original form. There are many variations and the "new and improved version" is Bondage/Discipline/Domination/Submission/Sadism/Masochism. which is just too dang long for my taste. That's the one i see getting tossed around the most lately. I'm in it more for the M/s so i guess we could add Masterism and slavism in there also.
