MissSCD -> Never Give UP (9/6/2008 8:14:41 AM)

Greetings:

For those of you who do not know me that well, my mother is 76 and has been suffering from deteriation of the spine for the past five years. In other words, she has to use a walker to walk.
Every doctor we went to has told us the same thing.  There was nothing we could do to help her walk.
We have always believed in chiopractors and God.  We decded to go check with the chiopractor as a last resort. After two adjustments, he has her walking on her own again after five years of struggling and being told no.
Search everything.  Leave no stone unturned, and you will find the right person to help you.

Regards, MissSCD

Way to go Dr. Joe.

Wow!!  That's wonderful news.  I'm very happy for your mom.

I've been having severe back pain which stemmed from an illness and later a back injury and nothing is helping, not even strong narcotics (which are starting to make me sick to the stomach).  I recently considered visiting a chiropractor but was apprehensive.  After reading your post, I will locate one and see if an adjustment will make a difference.

Thank you so much for sharing this great news!!

That is wonderful.  If I helped one person by posting this, I am happy.
Chiopractors help with migraine headaches, backs, anything that is musuclar where surgery is not recommened,  and pain medication is the only alternative.  They are great for nerves.
They are not expensive  either.
I go for my neck and back.   You will sleep so wonderful when you go.
Good luck to you.

Let me know how it works out. btw, she tried accupunture as well. $1,000 out the window.

Wow! I'm surprised she didn't get any relief from accupuncture!

I've got an injury to my right arm that causes all kinda of crazy muscle aches and pains up in my shoulders and back and found that accupuncture was the ONLY thing that gave me any kind of relief and even after about 6 sessions, I felt better than I had in years!

I think it just goes to show that every individual is different. And I agree, when it comes to your health and wellness, we should never stop with just the opinion of one doctor and just one type of "pain relief".

Glad to hear your mom has found what works for her and is doing much better!!

MissSCD -> RE: Never Give UP (9/7/2008 7:17:38 AM)

Accupuncture just did not do it this time.   We have been going to this chiopractor since his father practiced.   Let's just say he is part of the family.

Glad to hear it MissS, I will file this under doctors' fallibility.

Welcome to the club, by I mean people who don't blindly follow someone just because they have a piece of paper.

Best of luck.

Gawd bless you, your mother and the chiropractor.

I myself have intractable pain and have been told 'no narcotics'; we shall see where I fetch up.

Could be down the street at the tarot card reader...I am open to anything.

candystripper: Did Barbara Bush really make that statement:  Clinton lied. A man might forget where he parks or where he lives, but he never forgets oral sex, no matter how bad it is.
Barbara Bush?
If so, I have to say, the woman has a sense of humor I never before anticipated.  Lol!

MissSCD: Iam sorry to hear of what your mother went through and am glad that a good chirporactor was able to help her.  I have had had chronic pain for as long as I can remember (Really severe TMJ, then a neck and shoulder inury that exacerbates the TM along with its own set of fun symptoms). Anyway, I did physical therapy for both at different times with different levels of efficacy.  When they wanted to do nerve conduction tests on the shoulder/neck with the idea of surgery and I was in my early 20's, I said, "My hand's numb, there's nerve impingement.  You're not cutting on me, hell no."  A great old hippie nurse I worked with recommended a chiropractor and I figured 'why not'. He did (And still does, but only on a'tune up' basis), horrible things to me that help immensely.
For symptom management of my various ailments, I have tried chiro, massage, p/t, acupuncture, drugs, etc.  Each helps in its own way.  Reiki, eh, didn't do much for me.  I am sure there are other things I've tried too.
Keep trying those non-invasives and good luck and good thoughts to all who have chronic issues.  :>

chiropractors rock.

honestly, i was terrified the first time i went cuz i just knew that head snapping move was going to pop my noggin off my neck like a dandylion head...but sheer bliss.

RealSub58 -> RE: Never Give UP (9/25/2008 10:20:00 AM)

Greetings MissSCD,
I love this post for several reasons....
1.  I prefer my chiropractor to a pain management clinic.
2.  Chiropractors are so underrated and devalued.
3.  Like there are quack chiropractors, there ARE more quack MD's.
4.  The method of the chiropractor depends on their education.
5.  Not all chiropractors are as great as the one your mom went to or the one I go to.
6.  Chiropractors spend more time with clients than MD's do.

Now for some reality...

suffering from deteriation of the spine for the past five years.
Deterioration (osteolysis) begins very quickly after osteogenesis (formation of bone is complete). Just the nature of our bodies.
Arthritis
Osteo-arthritis
Osteoporosis
Rheumatoid Arthritis
Spinal stenosis ........ all which can cause degeneration/deterioration of the spinal cord is not the same as vertebral subluxation.
For a layman's rendering, see.....

Search everything.  Leave no stone unturned, and you will find the right person to help you.

Way to go Dr. Joe.

My mom had bilateral hip replacements...related to vertebral subluxation and thus osteolysis.
She has 2 total knee replacements...related to arthritis and related osteolysis.
She has spinal stenosis, inherited (so yes I have it) and no chiropractor in the world can "fix" that.  She walks at a 45 degree forward bend and must use a walker.

If she had seen a chiropractor, as I do, she would have never had to have total hip replacements.

Thank God for science and the medications now available for Arthritis, Osteo-arthritis, Osteoporosis,  Rheumatoid Arthritis and Spinal Stenosis.

Have you noticed we can call our Chiropractors by their first name but if we call our MD's anything other than "Doctor ____" they have a conniption?

As Americans we do"settle" for what the MD says and the medications they dispense (they do get a kickback) and we shouldn't !!

Other disciplines, such as Chiropractors are miracle workers.

Thank you for reminding all of us to never give up the search and trusting unconventional methods is not a crime or guilt trip of shame toward the MD.

Thank you Dr. Don !!

Agreed!  :>  The chiro I see knows I hate what he does to me but he also knows it helps and chastizes me for waiting too long in between 'tune ups'asI generally wait until I am allpretzeled up and can't see straight from the pain.  No, waiting longer than I should is not masochism; it's just being used to hunkering down and dealing with the pain.  It's a strange thing to knowingly let someone jerk your neck around in a fashion that really seems like it could likely kill you.  It takes real discipline not to, at least, tense up.  And, of course, even though I trust the guy absolutely in what he does, I still occasionally tense up and he's great about distracting me by chatting then sneaking upon me with one of those horrendous but helpful cracks and pops.  If I didn't think I'd traumatize him, I'd liken what he does to D/s stuff and have a fun ole conversation with him about that, lol!  :>

subjtoyou -> RE: Never Give UP (9/26/2008 9:06:44 AM)

For all who "Hate" what their Chiro does but love the results there are Chiropractors that use instruments to adjust.  They do not "Pop" the spine and it is near painless.  Two such instruments are the Pro-Adjuster and the Activator.  Just look on the web for a Chiropractor that uses one of those.

GreedyTop -> RE: Never Give UP (9/26/2008 9:31:55 AM)

*adores my chiro*

persephonee -> RE: Never Give UP (9/26/2008 12:34:23 PM)

i hate the tools...i prefer my torture hands on...feels less like an assault and more like an adjustment...but i dont question him...i just close my eyes and breathe thru whatever pain is coming my wayyyy.....heeeeyyyy....
*blushes and wonders just how long ive been just this kinky anyway....*

monywildcat -> RE: Never Give UP (9/26/2008 2:20:32 PM)

Hrm, this post has me wondering if I should try the chiropractor route vs. getting poo-pooed all the time by regular dr's.

I don't suffer from debilitating pain constantly mind you, but during the pregnancy and after the birth of 5of5, the carpal tunnel issues that I dealt with got worse, then a little better, but can be pretty troublesome off and on.  To the point that I have to wear braces at night (oh so nice when they are fresh from the freezer) and sometimes intermittently throughout the day.

I'm going to check this option out.
