ORIGINAL: pixidustpet the first set was *fine*....i got them done with barbells, then when i switched to the rings, they rejected. my second piercer told me this was common with women and rings, that the pressure of wearing a bra often made the ring migrate outwards. I won't say that a bra hasn't anything to do w/ causing piercings to migrate, but I doubt it's a major factor. But 2 things are wrong w/ rings ... #1) they weigh more & have different leverage factors on them (esp when pressured by a bra), and #2) they are round but the piercing is straight. That, at the very outset puts pressure on the inside of the piercing wherever the turn of the ring pressures one side or the other of the hole. That is ... at the edges of the nipple, the ring will constantly push down on the exit holes (assuming a horizontal piercing) but inside the piercing at the center of the nipple, the ring is pushing on the roof of the hole. The constant pressure embarrasses circulation and before the piercing can heal, that pressured tissue must die, or at least reform to equilibrate the constant pressure. Basically, those pressure areas are causing "pressure sores" (used to be called 'bedsores'). So putting in curved hardware has to start with a degenerative process before it can even THINK of starting to heal. A straight barbell won't have that problem & will heal faster & w/ fewer complications. And ... an allergy to the metal, will only make things go south faster. Another factor that will make it harder to retain a piercing would be larger, fuller breasts, esp w/ itsybitsy buds of nipples or flat nips. The weight of the breasts is working against you ... AND a bra either will make it worse, or not help much at all. There are only 2 fixes to prevent the complications of curved piercings ... and the easiest is to use a piercing needle w/ exactly the same arc as the ring ... but even if you could find one ... the HARD part is the mechanics of performing the piercing w/ a curved needle w/ the entrance & exit where you want 'em. The other fix is only for hardcore, maso, body mods folks & surgically trained 'piercers'. quote:
this time one of the rings migrated and i had it removed. the other was doing ok (i had them re-pierced in march of this year) but not great...i had the jewelry changed out to a barbell and its been doing much better since then. Bingo! Sounds like you'd better forget rings ... or at least go to shackles. Surprised your piercer didn't give you better advice. quote:
oh and re-piercing? can be a real adventure. scar tissue, you know? There is NO nipple that I can't pierce ... esp if I put my weight into it ... and sometimes if I get someone to bang on the back of my elbow :-) quote:
the pierce wasnt bad in and of itself, but putting the jewelry in was a real bitch. yay for subspace... That's the problem with using a 2-step piercing technique (i.e. #1) making the hole, #2) putting the hardware through afterwards. Even using the jewelry on the other side to push the needle back out is an added step that can sometimes have difficulties (as you know). Well, at least you haven't nicked a milk duct ... seepage out thru the piercing can set you up for a raging mastitis ... esp if one of the nasty antibiotic resistant bugs gets in there.
