Newsflash: Palin's not a Muslim.

Thank you for the link.  It's amazing to me how people are casting verbal stones at Sarah Palin for the church she worships in, a church that follows the teaching of Jesus as they interpret the Word.  Some in our country also make fun of Baptists who shake, rattle and role in the middle of an intense sermon, are annoyed that jews do not allow men and woman to worship together (as do muslims), Mormons who don't follow the teachings of Jesus the way others teach, black churches with the singing and clapping and partying it would appear to an outsider, etc etc etc.  Bigotry is alive and well in this country when people are rediculed for their religeosity.  About the only thing I have not heard (yet) is that Sarah should be burned at the stake for being a witch!

Obviously, the Obama and his followers are confused and emotionally hysterical with fear since the nomination of Sarah Palin as VP on the republican ticket.  Attacking her religion, her church, her principles is a feeble attempt to "checkmate" the obvious disdainful sermons from the pulpit of Obama's "chosen" church of over 20 years.
I can'tbelieve Obama believed EVERYTHING his pastor Jerimah Wright uttered against our country and white people but, instead, like his followers today, Obama used his church,  it's membership strength and acquired "street cred",  as a catapult into the Chicago scene and the advancement of his politcal career after losing in his first attempt.

Lets discuss the economy, energy, national security, healthcare, and the many many of issues begging action.

Fine but I think it is also appropriate to discuss a candidates long term membership in an organization that believes that homosexuals are sick, implicit in curing homosexuals is that there is something wrong with them. That sort of bigotry is unacceptable and we as concerned voters need to take a careful look at any candidate with extreme bigoted points of view.

Let me also add that I find it odd that a self identified bisexual sees nothing troubling about a church which believes you need curing.

The one thing about Christian fundementalists is that they don't give a shit what Jesus is purported to have said, they are more interested in what they wish he had said.

I don't believe in any god but I can understand the attraction of a man that promoted brotherhood (except gays), peace (except in Iraq), humility (except for oneself), to love one's enemy (except the Russians and Chinese) and that we know nothing (except if you're fundy).

kdsub -> RE: Palins church. (9/9/2008 9:22:12 AM)

lol... over the last year reading posts here on CM I've heard the majority of people...most posting in this thread...decry the mixture of politics and church. But now it is this religion is better than that one...but only when the particular religion in question matches their political views. You folks are pitiful...if there is a God...which I hope...you will have a lot of explaining at judgement day

bestbabync -> RE: Palins church. (9/9/2008 9:25:49 AM)

i know that, silly.

i was just saying, why point the finger at her religion/church?

when Obama's church believes "Goddamn America"etc?  he plainly disassociated himself from that belief and the man that made the statement.  he denounced it!  now we are supposed to vote for him anyway, right?  he really does not believe what Rev. Wright and his church believes.  just ignore it?  Obama loves America.

I'm Jewish, so I'm still waiting for the Messiah, and trust me: Palin's not it [&:] .

Yeahhhhh...I am voting for the candidate, not their former pastors. Oh wait, crazy Sarah still goes to the talking in tongues church right? Thank whomever for freedom from religion.

I also am voting for the candidate(s), not their former or current pastors.  Sarah Palin is so crazy that during her acceptance speech she made this crazy statement: "They [Obama-Biden] use change to promote their career, McCain uses his career to promote change."  Oh wait, since McCain has a verifiable career of actually effecting changes he promoted and they [Obama-Biden] don't, "crazy" Sarah Palin was correct!  Hold on a sec, "crazy" Sarah Palin also has a verifiable career of actually effecting changes she promoted as well! :-)

u r totally missing my point

there are extremes & disagreements in every religion

i never said Sarah Palin is the Messiah.  i am a christian, and i am NOT still waiting.

what i am saying is we cannot make our decision on who we vote for based on their religion or their church.  at least that is what i was told by the Dems when the Rev. Wright statements came out.

Since she was reciting something she hadn't written, I see that quote as a proof that Palin can repeat what she's instructed to say. Nothing else. Oh, and the way she uttered those jabs? Scary. People who manage to spew hatred with a smile on their face give me the fear big time [sm=evil.gif].

When Palin comes out and clearly says her church is wrong about curing homosexuals, as Obama did about Rev. Wright, then and only then will I drop the subject. Till then she associates with bigoted crazies and as all the folks claiming he is a socialist based on his having associated with socialists continue to claim the association is telling about Obama then it is fair to judge Palin on her associations as well.

Bethnai -> RE: Palins church. (9/9/2008 9:40:57 AM)

That documentary has been out for awhile. If you have not seen Jesus Camp, you need to. That is a pretty evil little brainwashing thing going on there.

Didn't mean to reply to you. I just thought I would do a fast reply

kittinSol -> RE: Palins church. (9/9/2008 9:42:35 AM)

You are missing that I was extrapolating from your points, but I'll address this one: you are 100% correct, people should not  base their voting decision on candidates' religious background, but it looks like they will anyway.

Is it because religion is still touted as a sales pitch for politicians?
When the religion in question promotes intolerance and the imposition of its beliefs upon others, it's like history never happened, and we are still in the Dark Ages. See why some of us are wary of it? It's not good when politicians let their religious beliefs interfere with their policy making: in fact, it's a disaster, and not just in America.

i will not vote based on who the candidate hangs out or associates with.  i will vote based on what the candidate says he will do and what his record says about him.  i believe most Americans will do the same.  so most of the rhetoric will have been for nothing.

bestbabync -> RE: Palins church. (9/9/2008 9:50:37 AM)

that is why i really hate it when the media, any media including Fox News, digs for dirt etc on the candidates.  i prefer to research each candidate and base my decision on their political record.  all the other junk is just that junk.  it sells papers etc.
for instance the story on the former Dem candidate for President....i wish they had kept it to themselves.  that guys wife will leave this earth with the knowledge that all of the world knows her most intimate & embarrassing secrets.

At the moment an organization Palin is a member of says homosexuals need to be "cured." Just as it would be valid to discuss a socialist groups stands if Obama was a member it is appropriate to discuss this.

kittinSol -> RE: Palins church. (9/9/2008 9:52:39 AM)

It's unfortunate, but it's the result of our adversarial political system.

so u agree that the organization that believed "Goddamn America" was a valid concern for the Reps to have?

bestbabync -> RE: Palins church. (9/9/2008 9:56:30 AM)

Obama only stated that Rev. Wright was wrong when he was called out on it.  until then he used his membership in that church and his friendship with Rev. Wright to prove his religious background.

I would agree with you totally and will vote for a candidate based on his record.  With respect to what he says, I'm not so sure since every candidate will say whatever it takes to win votes.  The question is...does his RECORD of failure and success suggest he will be able to accomplish anything he is saying.

In viewieng McCain (Not my pick) I see a guy with a track record, experience, guts, and an independent legislator when he disagreed with even his own party.  If he wins in November, he will surround himself with a family of advisors I feel will not destroy the America I know.

When I look at Obama, I see a guy that even after almost two years on the scene, I know little about.  Other than his own personal success in his career, the man has done nothing signficant, managed anything significant, actually wrote and got legislation passed that was supportive of the American way of life. I do see a man who believes in strengthening Big Government and weakening Big Business.  My choice this year is more clear between two opposing visions of our country....socialism or capitalism.  For me, it's an easy choice.  Selecting Sarah Palin made it a very easy choice and not one based on the "lesser of two evils" which was my orignal reason for giving McCain my vote.

Come November, and we get into that booth...all we can do is vote our conscience and beliefs,  and pray for the best.

Was that the church's official position? No. This is this church's official position. That's a very big difference.
