I don't know which would be worse, the event or the "warm up"? OUCH!

ive seen a documentary or two on this. Mostly people who are doing some kinda personal training of transcendance over physical limitations and pain. This man was called grandmaster, makes me think he is into martial arts of some form.

This is a valid martial art of the internal school. Not kung fu, but a form of qigong. It's real world usefullness is practically zero but has it's purpose. I've been with shaolin monks when they broke iron bars over their own heads and had a large log rammed into their stomachs by 6 bearers. They do it to test their ability to resist harm by packing spiritual energy into specific areas of their body. What better to prove their mastery of this than using their most sensivite areas? THis man has been written about in a few issues of KungFu Qigong magazine if you have further interest. "No, mistress, that CBT doesn't hurt at all" :-)
