You chose to put "honest" and it is generally accepted that it is said with sarcasim when it is in quotation marks.  Sarcasim on Honest would infer dishonest. No snap judgement, a thought out reasoned interpretation of what you wrote.

Additionally the words
"God isn't so easily fooled" infer there is intent to fool god on their part.

So again your own words betraty the fact that you were accusing them of dishonesty by using " around honesty, and accusing them of trying to fool god.

Your words.

Quotations are used for what they are - quotations - of a word used on a personal level or when repeating what has been mentioned before.  I rarely use sarcasm as I usually find it a childish and fruitless endeavour.  I prefere to be blunt.  On the rare occasion I am sarcastic, placing the </sarcasm> would be my normal typing style.  I also find that it is much easier and far more productive to ask a person what they mean by their words, than to jump to judgement based on what is 'generally accepted'.

I am not so general.  But now that is cleared up, you will not make the same interpretation - or judgement - again.  It's all cool.

Ah so the onus is placed on me to adapt rather than you, how convienient.

You choose to use punctuation that is known generally and accepted in popular culture as an inferance of sarcasim, the equivolent of a wink wink nudge nudge and expect that people will know beyond doubt that YOU don't use them that way.

I still stand by the part you clipped out
"God isn't so easily fooled" infer there is intent to fool god on their part.
displays the fact that you were in fact infering dishonesty, but are back peddling now.

The idea that quotations are just quotations is laughable since you quoted nothing anyone said. Seems you toss out punctuation marks without reguard for theior meaning or general use.

Archer, whilst I appriciate it is frustrating when one does not understand another, you are being exactly what you admonished in the first place.

You - in your own words -

quote:

I am assuming that the prayer is in all honesty just as it is at face value, to do otherwise is to engadge in judgement of the sort we are admonished not to perform.

If it were not for the fact that your assumption is a judgement anyway, your post would have been admirable.  Yet you have placed unfounded accusations upon me based on no information(judgement) and also attempted to do exactly what you dismissed mc for doing.
quote:

Love how you shift the definitions and argument so easily.

So to explain -
'Fool' as in fritter - as in ill judgement.  If one believes and has faith in God, one would understand he is not one to be 'fooled', 'frittered' or pass 'ill judgements'.

Now whilst I appriciate this may simply be a miscommunication on both our parts, it is not helpful nor polite to simply place words in the mouth of another without confirming their intentions and I would appriciate it if you did not attempt to do so.  You are second guessing and that is neither healthy, nor does it exhibit humilty.

Fool To deceive or trick; dupe:
God is not so easily fooled decieved tricked
The word easily is an adverb thus fooled would be the modified verb.

I'm not putting words into your mouth I am useing your own words I have qouted them as often as practicle to be sure I was not putting words into your mouth after the starting retort.

So to recap, Honesty in quotes (read on my side in the generally accepted wink wink nudge nudge sarcasim)
God is not eaily fooled (read on my side as decieved infering dishonesty)

Within one post two indications that you were questioning the honesty with which they were praying.

At this point simply trying to show the logic with which I came to the judgement of what you were saying.

If the onus was simply all upon 'you' then why would I even bother to discuss this with you?  You make no sense at all.

Quotations are not for citations alone.  In english language they are also used for statement of expression.

If you have never read my posts before and therefore have never learnt my writing 'style' - that is all cool and completely understandable.  The world does not revolve around one person, particularly me.  But equally, it is ill advised to place everyone in the same box and make an assumption or judgement on a single person you do not know, nor ever bothered to get to know.

I have never seen this so called inference to sarcasm used without other mediums, such as smilies or </>  that is my experience.  It does not match yours, it's all good.  I usually glaze over sarcasm as I said before as I find it unattractive and fruitless, obviously sometimes it leaks through the cracks.
But that is life.

you will not make the same interpretation - or judgement - again.

not Darcy&the dark will work to be more clear and I hope that you will note how I express sarcasim.

but rather Archer will not make the same mistake.

That is where the onus came from, you indicated that I was not to make the same mistake, not that you would do anything to change your writting so that it might be more clear.

I am not changing my style to suit others.  I am, however always open to discuss unless someone decides to try and thrust their opinons onto me.

It also means fritter which is to lack wisdom.

I'm not putting words into your mouth I am useing your own words I have qouted them as often as practicle to be sure I was not putting words into your mouth after the starting retort.

Indeed, only you are using an interpretation that fits your agenda.  And as I have explained, my intentions were not as you judge them.

quote:

So to recap, Honesty in quotes (read on my side in the generally accepted wink wink nudge nudge sarcasim)

Understood, but not my interpretation.

quote:

God is not eaily fooled (read on my side as decieved infering dishonesty)

Again, not my interpretation.  Which is all cool.

quote:

Within one post two indications that you were questioning the honesty with which they were praying.

Again, that is your interpretation of what I said.  I have explained that is not what I said, only your interpretation and I have explained.  I have no issue with you and I having a break down of communication.  That is all cool.  However, you are still insisting you are correct and that I am 'back peddling' which I take exception to.

You obviously do not know me.  It is becoming increasingly obvious you have no wish to accept anyones interpretation but your own and demand I accept yours.  I can accept it as your idea and your understanding on what I said.  I do not accept it as the correct one as I meant it.  With all due respect Archer, and for the respect of the thread and other posters, get over it.

The last few I was mostly presenting the case for my interpritation of what you said, not demanding that you accept it, but only acknoledge that the logic was sound.
I've made my case for what I beleieve you've made yours I'm over the exchange.

But Archer, we're in the XXIst Century . See why a stance like Palin's would sound frightening? Bush was on a similar 'God told me to' trip, and look where it got us.

I'm wondering if theheretic will ever see the irony of opposing Islamic extremists with Christian fundamentalists.

And you have bought into the idea that Palin was praying for something that is not in evidence even when the full quote parralells other speaches that have been accepted as praying that the decissions made have dicerned god's unknowable will properly.

You assume the prayer was one thing.
I assume that the speach was just what it says. I pray we are right in our judgement of what is the right thing to do. A prayer that extends to every religion I can think of in some form or another.

I didn't read her statement as paralleling the other quotes.  The quotes from Lincoln, Kennedy, and FDR I read as asking God's blessing.  The Palin statement reads more like the old Blues Brothers movie where Jake and Elwood believe they are on a "mission from God".

Of course readers background and bias couldn't have anything to do with the way we each read the words, at all.

Ahhhhhh; yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaassssssssssssssssssssssss.

We are then perforce; collectively left to ponder the vexing question of what the meaning of 'is', is.

What I find deeply troubling about the entire affair is that if she was in some fucked up fashion drawing some allegory to Lincolns words, why didn't she at the time invoke it?  Seems to me with all the pictures of Lincoln and the comparisons of these two as the grand old healers and uniters of the nation in this time of trouble and espousing the similarities to old Pennyhead,

"That someone should coordinate policy over there, or it might appear as though the Grand Old Party is floundering."

double quotes paraphrased from President John F. Kennedy
