OBAMA TRIED TO STALL GIS' IRAQ WITHDRAWAL

WHILE campaigning in public for a speedy withdrawal of US troops from Iraq, Sen. Barack Obama has tried in private to persuade Iraqi leaders to delay an agreement on a draw-down of the American military presence.

According to Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari, Obama made his demand for delay a key theme of his discussions with Iraqi leaders in Baghdad in July.

"He asked why we were not prepared to delay an agreement until after the US elections and the formation of a new administration in Washington," Zebari said in an interview.

Oh, no.. it's okay... if he just ASKED about it, and no delay actually happened, then it doesn't count, right? Like Palin just ASKING about banning books... since there was no list, and no books actually got banned, then it's a non-issue.

As I can see you are still stuck in the spin cycle... The great purge of books in Wasilla has been discussed in how many threads now?  It has already been shown that the conversation was appropriate and relevant.  Wasilla was in the process of changing their book challenge policy to conform with neighboring towns and Boroughs.  You are going to have to find another bat to swing.

This Obama thing is something worth looking into just like the claims about wanting to ban books were.

quote:

Obama insisted that Congress should be involved in negotiations on the status of US troops - and that it was in the interests of both sides not to have an agreement negotiated by the Bush administration in its "state of weakness and political confusion."

"However, as an Iraqi, I prefer to have a security agreement that regulates the activities of foreign troops, rather than keeping the matter open." Zebari says.

Though Obama claims the US presence is "illegal," he suddenly remembered that Americans troops were in Iraq within the legal framework of a UN mandate. His advice was that, rather than reach an accord with the "weakened Bush administration," Iraq should seek an extension of the UN mandate.

While in Iraq, Obama also tried to persuade the US commanders, including Gen. David Petraeus, to suggest a "realistic withdrawal date." They declined.

Obama has made many contradictory statements with regard to Iraq. His latest position is that US combat troops should be out by 2010. Yet his effort to delay an agreement would make that withdrawal deadline impossible to meet.

So not only was he trying to delay the negotiations and a deal that would set a time frame for getting troops out of Iraq, he was attempting to get the commanders on the ground to further weaken an out going President and his position as Commander in Chief.  I wonder if that could be defined as sedition.

I am sure more information will come to light.

Had Governor Palin previously been against mayoral involvement with Library procurement policy and then news came out that she inquired about it as mayor then it might be a good comparison but, whereas Senator Obama is running as a pacifist you would think he would want to show a little more consistency than this.

By the way, was her 1996 ban on Harry Potter ever lifted?

hmm... wasnt it Reagan who delayed release of hostages in Iran until he was sworn in?

So fault Obama for trying to emulate Reagan,

who try as we might, we cant rise him from the dead.....

that is unless he is living with elvis somewhere...

Let's seperate a couple of things here.

First, if we were to even believe the rumors (that were proven false in congress under a Dem investigation), how did Reagan arrange the weapons transfers prior to his taking office?  See that is where the crutch gets kicked out of that argument.

Secondly, Obama's rallying cry since, well forever, has been to get the troops out as soon as possible.  If he attempted to delay the negotiations of a deal that would do just that, would that not be using the troops as a political pawn to garner more votes and in complete contradiction to his stated position?

Finally, IF the claims of him asking for the delay of negotiations and him trying to get commanders in theatre to go against the Commander in Chief are accurate, that would equate to SEDITION.

I am willing to wait for more information to come out about it.

So, Reagan was the greatest President who ever lived now, in your eyes?

As to the seriousness of this accusation, this would also be a violation of the Logan Act.

quote:

The Logan Act (18 U.S.C.A. ยง 953 [1948]) is a single federal statute making it a crime for a citizen to confer with foreign governments against the interests of the United States. Specifically, it prohibits citizens from negotiating with other nations on behalf of the United States without authorization.

I started to notice politics around the time that Carter gave the put on a sweater speach on front of a fireplace.

I st would say Clinton was the best...but as the details of NAFTA,  admission of China into the WTO, and a general surrender of our soveinrty....  it dulls the shine.

As to Reagan being great.  Yeah.  Tho at the time he was frightening. lets not forget there were plenty of scandals with him too.

But being that I came of age then, I might be confusing my gusto for life with the Reagan era.

Certainly Reagan had style and pizzazz.

Bush is no Reagan... tho.

so relatively speaking-in my view Clinton and Reagan were decent. Tho they both still have sold out the commen man for the international elite.

the thing is imitating Reagan wont work. The leader has to be his own style.

Why rain on pleasant memories?
the 80s were great for me.

This is worse than quoting from The Huffington Post and Daily Kos?

Neither is a good practice.  Unfortunately all of the above have shown up here a time or 2.

Actually Ven, it's sad to say but the New York Times and USA Today are no better these days.

And then some.  I have seen stuff posted around here as actual fact that even the grocery store rags that cover stories like "The growing problem of unicorns forcing sexual relations" would not touch.

Then after those stories are proven wrong, certain folks want to continue beating that drum and suggesting that the rest of us are somehow ignoring facts.

I even refrain from posting stuff from reputable places because folks will cry it is biased reporting, but still some of those folks continue to post the same stuff from less reputable places.

As to the original post.  If the accusations are accurate, the Sen has broken a few laws and quite possibly could be charged with felonies.  That is a big if.  The Logan Act and other sedition laws come to mind right away.

Just my take on it.

Edited to clarify a statement.

Ummm no...
The hostages were released BEFORE Reagan got into office, because if I remember correctly, the language he used on the campaign trail stated that he would bring the boys home with force if necessary.

So why aren't they applying the Logan Act to Leiberman, who, along with another senator, was sent as an envoy of McCains, to the Georgia conflict? They were not given a specific diplomatic mission there by the office of the President...

Oh, right... "some pigs are more equal than others...."
