(CNN)
— It appears Barack Obama's teleprompter is hitting the campaign trail.
The Democratic presidential nominee has never tried to hide the fact he delivers speeches off the device, though normally he doesn't use one at standard campaign rallies and town hall events.
But the Illinois senator used a teleprompter at both his Colorado events Monday — making for a particularly peculiar scene in Pueblo, where the prompter was set up in the middle of what is normally a rodeo ring.

Looks like Obama is trying to prevent himself from making another gaffe, or one of those rambling remarks.  He is bringing his best friend with him on the road.

So do you think this is a smart thing for him to do, or does it just reenforce the idea that unless he is reading it off the prompter he is lost?  Will this help or hurt his public appearance?

a good move.

housesub4you -> RE: Obama gets smart? (9/16/2008 5:01:50 AM)

Everybody is using a teleprompter these days, I'm using one right now.

Since he never tried to hide the fact he uses one, why is this an issue.  Every person in this race is using one.

As for the gaffes. well at least he is still talking to reporters after his speeches, I'm sure he'll make more

As for being lost without it, hardly.  I wonder when his rivals will talk without one to the press.

His rival doesn't use one, and actually does better without it.  I don't know what coverage you are watching but the other candidate is talking to the media and fielding questions.

It's a little uninspiring, to say the least - the rise of the teleprompter has taken all the fun and spontaneity out of politics (*cough*). I'm don't think this new development will hurt Obama too much, in the end. Perhaps it will be a topic for debate in the beginning, but hopefully it's importance (or lack thereof) will fade away in the face of debate of the actual issues.

Aileen1968 -> RE: Obama gets smart? (9/16/2008 5:28:49 AM)

If he's using a teleprompter, then who's actually answering the questions?
And shouldn't that person be running for pres?  [8|]

Aileen is pretty and wise.

Bah...it's just my long, long cartoon legs and panties around my ankles that makes me look smarter.

Wonders what McCain will do next.  You know, I am sick of all of this nonsence.  I am also sick of President Bush.  In general, we are looking at a weak USA thanks to none other than GWB.
Let's attack the real nutcase.   Ever see a nation collapse?  It is close thanks to the past eight years.
I don't think Obama nor McCain have a clue, but I am not picking McCain because he has a pretty little girl as his VP who also has several issues.

A much,much smarter move,releasing the dem 527s.

Though not as sexy as this story,it will even the playing field and counter McCain`s swifty ads.

He's delivering a speech, not answering questions.  As the article states, he doesn't use one at rallies or town hall events.

I don't even understand why this is an issue.  What difference does it make if he uses something electronic or reads off paper or note cards?

Or are you going to try and tell me McCain memorizes all his speeches?

No the article said he usually doesn't, but did so at both events yesterday.  This looks like it is going to be a trend that continues.

Sanity -> RE: Obama gets smart? (9/16/2008 6:08:59 AM)

McCain didn't do this. What are you talking about?

And the nation is hurting primarily because the Democrats won't let Americans have the energy they need.

No drilling.

No new refineries.

No nuclear.

No!

No!

No!

On a brighter note, I see that come Tuesday the Democrats will have reversed themselves, and will finally allow a vote in the House on offshore drilling. It's too little, too late from Pelosi, but maybe, FINALLY the Democrats are seeing the light!

Let's see who stumbles and stammers during the debates. We've already seen who loses his naughty little temper first.

Not exactly, RML.  He has certain set pieces and stock answers that he uses often.  We saw a fair bit of that at Saddleback.  Memorized wouldn't be the right description, but he's very comfortable with them.  With those in the 'toolbelt,' McCain prefers to work extemporaneously, in the moment, with the audience.  He can think on his feet.

Which is why, although I have more respect for Obama's intelligence, I expect McCain to wipe the floor with him in the debates.
