Catilicious -> Lower Back Pain - Need advice (9/16/2008 11:05:43 AM)

Background Information:

Once I passed out and fell into the bathtub in high school causing back injury and saw a physical therapist. However, it's still easy for me to overtax my back especially from standing at work all day.

The BDSM Aspect:

My sub isn't living with me at the moment in order to give me back massages that help greatly and the pain prevents me from being able to comfortably do extended scenes requiring standing.

If anyone knows of any exercises or stretches that help with lower back pain I can do on my own, I would greatly appreciate a set of instructions or link to a site. I've long since thrown away the papers my physical therapist gave me back in high school and totally regret it now. Any other suggestions are welcome too.

Tell your doctor you're having recurring back pain and ask for a prescription for physical therapy again, and ask the therapist for a stretching and strengthing home exercise program.  They're thrilled to do that for  you, it's what they do [:)]

These are the best for developing strength in your core. Once you take care of these core postural muscles, your pain will be greatly reduced. Strong back, strong abs and strong postural muscles.

even the simple act of walking around with your stomach muscles pulled in will help strengthen your core.  it takes a conscious effort but it's a big payoff for a small amount of effort.

if you've got one of those big balance balls, they are great for stretching.  start on your knees, lean over the ball and drape yourself over it slowly.  doesn't take much of that to help either.

good luck!

I'm also going to add....start taking good vitamins and supplements. My mother has had a triple vertabrae fusion and even though it was successful, she was still having days with pain. She started taking a whole food based liquid vitamin/supplement called Passion 4 Life, and she says that her use of pain meds has decreased dramatically.

Master takes the same vitamin and says that his old football injuries aren't bothering him as much.

As a mason who lays concrete block all day I have experienced lower back pain. Its something I have become familiar with. Lifting correctly is always a must. Follow the excercises and stretches in this link and you should do alright. When you wake up in the morning roll out of bed instead of trying to sit straight up as well and sleep on your back instead of on your side at nights if you can.

An all round routine of stretching and twisting is usually beneficial. Begin slowly and shallowly. If you have not consulted a specialist, some of the exercises I have just viewed via the links could be damaging, especially if attempted too rigorously. Think about your time at the computer, 3 pr 4 minutes away every half hour is more beneficial than 4 hours on and then one off.

If you can afford it, the Fluidity workout is GREAT for strengthening your core muscles. Its harder than it looks but it works really well. You do have to actually stick with it though.

Grab a standard chair like from the card table set or dining room chair. Lay on your back with it flat against the floor. Raise up your legs and rest your calves on the seat of the chair.

This flattens your vert. resting on the floor...raises the pelvic region and holds the weight of your legs off the ground. 30 min. ideally twice a day. The blood runs down and 'heals' the vert. and takes pressure off the spine, cocyx and hips. Maybe the only back-painless position there is.
