Since we;re going out of town in a few weeks, I'm not ordering and picking it up till the third of october, but I'll let every one know what I thought of them.

Amen Sister.  When I was putting my house together, I deliberately didn't get an oven.  I have *a* burner, an electric tea-kettle, a microwave and a couple other specific appliances (veggie steamer/rice cooker), but no oven.  My solution, which came from Peg Bracken's awesome book: "The I Hate to Cook-Book" is to graze.  I usually have yogurt, fruit, granola, etc in my dorm sized fridge.  When I want *real* food besides rice and veggies, I head out.  My favorite restaurant does a Frito Pie for $3.99.  I couldn't even buy the ingredients for that, and they've already cooked the beans and green chili.

Yay, another anti cooker. I graze too. We buy yougurts and string cheese, and cans of soup( yes the soduim is horribly high but it's something I am willing to over look* and grapes and carrots cut like potato chips and crackers and slimfast drinks, and huge sacks of potato's I can microwave, and then like you, if I am hungry but want something big , he brings home jack in the box after work. 2 extream egg sausage sandwhiches and a large ice tea with sweet and low and I'm not hungry for hours. And sometimes his work has to much food left over or someone made a mistake and the order isn't valid and he brings those home.

Just this week he brought home a huge two tray serving of meatballs, cause the company made 1500 for a special event and over half of that came back uneaten.

Don't take this wrong, cause I'm not trying to dis the non-cookers.... but... I seriously do Not understand those who seem to hate cooking.
 
Is it the clean up afterwards?  Is it the prep time?  Is it lack of appreciation from those who eat with you?   All of those issues are things that can be overcome with just a bit of creativity....

No, it's not laziness. I can do anything I put my mind to. I could cook if I had to, but it would be a painful process and the results would not be that great.  My husband loves to cook. He could cook all day. Because he enjoys it and is more free spirited and can experiment and enjoy it, he cooks with a lot of pride and pleasure.  So it works for us.

People who enjoy cooking and also have a skill for it have a special talent.  I think it's similar to having a taste for design, a talent for drawing, or the ability to match outfits.  People who love to be in the kitchen know what foods and spices compliment each other.  They can read recipes and improvise to improve or adjust them.  If I ever cooked, I would cook extremely precise to a recipe, because I have no natural ability to improvise when it comes to taste, texture and smell.  I just know if I like to eat it. Period.  

I have a very domestic sister. She cooks a lot of home meals. They are not very good.  She is an excellent baker, however.  Why?  Because she can follow precise recipes but struggles with things that may have to be more casually adjusted or put together.  My husband can read recipes and then later merge them, or use basic cooking skill to create things.  It would take me a very long time to learn all of that and I would not enjoy it.  It has nothing to do with lazy. I could also learn to rebuild car engines if I had to.  That would not make me a natural at fixing cars. My face would be in a book the entire time.

I also think people have to enjoy food/drink on a different level to be good chefs.  "Season to taste"?  I don't think so.  I am a particular eater, so you won't see me "tasting" things and guessing if they are right - I am picky and not very experimental.  My husband generally does not tell me what he puts in things and I do not watch him cook.

I also hate to see/touch raw meat.  Always.

For me, I am really out of shape that being on my feet ,it's that it's so taxing and takes a toll on my pysically, after time in the kitchen my back hurts my feet hurt from all the time on them, When I come out of the kitchen I come out feeling so run down and exhausted and cranky, and once my ankles start throbbing an hurting they won't stop for quite a long time. It's not worth the emotional and psysical toll for me.  I just don't have very much patience and I get so frusterated  easily.

and yes the clean up. I've also just always been very anti home maker. I want it ready with in minutes of being ready to eat and I want it not to take very long to prep and I want it not to take much prep at all.


People in my family always apreciate the meal that's never been the problem, I just don't find the effort it takes worth the way I feel after time in the kitchen.,,

Ok, that's a Little tougher to tackle....
 
Try doing your prep work while Sitting (ie, at the kitchen table) rather than standing at the counter.  That will at least give you a break from being on your feet the whole time, which should help (in the long run) with the problem of swelling ankles and backache.
 
The patience problem I have no ideas about - while patience generally isn't one of my strong suits when dealing with other people, it's never been a problem for me while in the kitchen, workshop, or art studio.

For some people I am sure that's true. I'll come out and admit there's a lot of things I don't do sheerly out of lazyness and sometimes cooking is one of those things. But not every one who doesn't enjoy cooking, is that way due to lazyness.

I had this fabulous sounding recipee for roast apple and pork and sparkling cider crock pot recipe, even ran out and bought all the ingrediants, but forgot about them and as such haven't done the recipee lol.


I should one of these days.

Prep work is the key to easy cooking. Depending on the meal, you can handle a significant portion of the prep in small chunks of time spaced throughout the day then bring it all together at the end. It won't work for everything, but it does work for a lot of meals.

After that, you need to fix your "whoever cooks does the dishes" rule. That's ok when you cook for yourself, but if you're cooking for other people, they get to do the dishes unless "lifestyle rules" get in the way of that.

You can't cook a Frito Pie?  It's Fritos with shredded cheese on top, then you pour hot chili over it.  You can buy all the ingredients for it, and it takes less than a few minutes to make it.  Well, I guess if you're a chili snob it takes awhile for the chili.  But I think Wolf brand chili or some of the brick chilis are perfectly acceptable. 

I really don't understand people that can't cook a meal for themselves.  I rarely eat out, and most of the things I cook are simple and take less than 30 minutes.  I watch t.v. while I'm doing it.  A couple of chicken breasts, pork chops, or steaks on the grill or in the broiler.  A couple of baked potatoes, and a bag of frozen veggies in the microwave.  It's not that difficult.  I save my more elaborate meals for when I am bored on weekends or having friends over. 

If cooking and the cleanup really bothers you that much, use a slow cooker.  Simple crockpot recipes abound on the internet, and a lot of them are really good.  I make meals in mine all the time.  The whole dish lifts out, and you stick it in the fridge for leftovers after your finished.  All you have to do is wash the plates and silverware.

I just looked at the website, and while I do believe it might be a good idea for some people, I myself would NEVER be able to do that. I work as a cook, and I love cooking and every aspect of it, yes, even the prep! Not everyone is like me though, lol. I am very particular about what I cook, there is NO prepackaged dinners, frozen dinners, etc in my house, not even canned soup, lol.  Yes I am a bit obsessive, but thats just the way I am.  As for cleanup, etc, I don't mind doing that either, at least that way, I know it gets done to my OCD standards, lol

You should really check out some of your local places too. One of the grocery stores right near me delivers. Costs a buck or two for the delivery fee, but they just bring my whole list. It's fantastic.

I'm not a non cooker.  I love cooking.  When we lived in California, I was the only one out of all of my friends who cooked.
So, for many I think it is life is just too rushed to bother. 
Me, I valued friends and family so our best get togethers were someone going to someone elses house.  Which meant cooking. 
Biggest thing I dislike now is my sister being gone.  When she was alive she used to say she could come over to my house and I'd cook her anything as long as she did the dishes after for me.  She loved it, I loved it.  So, if I could rent a sister to clean up after me I'd be more than willing.
Prep work takes a couple of hours a week if you do it in bulk.  Plan your meals out on Sunday.  Do the prep work...keep the stuff in containers until you need it.
Then throwing meals together are a snap.

OP...i read the pricing of their meals and i have to tell you...it is alot of money! I feed a family of three for several days on what you spent on one meal.

Cooking is not that hard and nothing to be afraid of. Crock-pots are a blessing and they all come with a basic recipe book. I have a feeling that once you start cooking you will be so pleased with the results you will want to continue. Plus...the leftovers can go into the freezer.

On the other hand...i applaude you for wanting to avoid the sodium et al that SOME frozen meals contain...but read your labels. The  consumers voice is loud and clear in the demand for healthy meals and the companies are responding.
