KCherry -> Ureathral Sounding (9/17/2008 10:18:08 AM)

Okay, heres the deal, I recently made a new friend who is very much into ureathral sounding. I don't know much on the topic, and most of that I learned through google. But, he told me that uses a Q-tip to do this and to me that sounds very unsafe for a couple reasons. Such as the risk of infection. Can anyone who knows more about this tell me whether I have reason to be concerned or perhaps I am just being paranoid. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'd think a Q-tip would be asking for a UTI. :P

Generally, you are supposed to use specially made sounds or dialators, and I would sterilize them before using.

I purchased a set of 8 surgical steel urethral sounds which are the only implements I use in my subs' penis. I lube them first and after the session they are cleaned with soap and water. Before the next use I place them in boiling water just to be sure nothing will pass from one sub to another.

you know I here it both ways one saying it safe as long as you ues steriled q-tips, then I here you cant.... all I know is that missextreem web sight that has some one who can put 20 q-tips in side there ureathra

Inserting anything in the urethra should be a sterile procedure to reduce the risk of infection.  QTips are a definite no-no, even sterile ones, since they leave fibers behind which also increase the risk of infection.  As a healthcare professional, it scares me sometimes the lengths people will go to for the sake of their kink.  A UTI in a male can travel further causing epidydimitis, as well as bladder and kidney infections.  Same goes for females but we seem to find urethral sounds less attractive.  That being said....  this definitely falls under RACK.

Q-Tips can harbor bacteria which may result in a UTI.  The cotton tip may also come off and remain within the urethra after removal.

Urological nurse here - if you have to do this, spend some money, get sterile lube, buy stainless steel sounds, and clean off the penis before play with soap and water. Don't use q-tips - see above - probably won't cause harm in most cases - but do you want to be the exception that proves the rule?

and you don't want to put them in too far - four inches would be a good limit - you don't want to put it so far as to reach the bladder.  and afterwards have the sub pee to flush out any stray bugs introduced.

Sounds are my new favorite fun! Stainless steel is the way to go and i boil them first. Note: Do let them cool off first hahahhaa

Sterile Q-Tips are a common item for doctors to use in a male urethra, they are what is used to test for STDs, push it in and swab the wall and you wipe a petri dish and see what grows.
SO if they are sterile then safe they are.
But real sounds are stainless steel and much better for play. Plus a lot of fun when your hard and the sound reaches all the way to your prostate or bladder area. Same as cath play.
Just sterilize, common and best home method is a pressure cooker just like mom used for babies bottles or canned food.

Actually we pressure cook all toys (that are inserted or could get in mouth, ass or body opening.

We enjoy using sounds. We have a set of stainless steel ones that we sterilize between uses. He likes the feeling of having one in him while I do a very light, slow massage of his penis. We use a size that causes him no pain, as pain is something I enjoy, not him. [;)]
Before inserting them we use medical wipes intended for sterilizing skin on the head of his penis and I wear gloves. No problems with infections so far!

I have used 'ice' sounds before. If they weren't such a pain to make (another Mistress made them) I would more keen on them since the stainless steel sets can be quite annoying to clean (while some here mention careful use of soap and water, technically you are supposed to use an autoclave).

tweedydaddy -> RE: Ureathral Sounding (9/25/2008 3:06:53 PM)

Don't do it! There aren't enoug antibiotics in the world

DrW -> RE: Ureathral Sounding (9/26/2008 7:51:37 AM)

I have years of experience with urethral play with female "patients". The Q-tips are an exceptionally bad idea. When a swab is used medically to obtain a specimen it is a special sterile type in an individually sealed pack or kit. It is only inserted a short distance into the patient's urethral opening and it is just a quick in and out. If you were to try to use a Q-tip by stroking for stimulation purposes you would risk shedding cotton fibers and/or exposing the end of the stick which could scratch your tissues. That's a UTI (or worse) waiting to happen.

The fact that he even suggested using a Q-tip makes me highly suspicious that he doesn't have a clue. My recommendation is do NOT do it.
