it is done alot here. Two friends went through it and are doing great!!! And we all know AngelEyes will too![:)]

tammystarm -> RE: Cooking lessons 101 for SirsHolly (9/20/2008 9:48:02 AM)

i would love to have it done

nursygirl -> RE: Cooking lessons 101 for SirsHolly (9/20/2008 10:23:59 AM)

I would have to see the rest of you Tammy - but judging from the appearance of your face you don't need it! HUG

sirsholly -> RE: Cooking lessons 101 for SirsHolly (9/20/2008 10:27:38 AM)

i think you have to be a certain # of pounds overweight...or a certain BMI...but that may have changed.

nursygirl -> RE: Cooking lessons 101 for SirsHolly (9/20/2008 10:28:33 AM)

I'm thinking that here you need to be 100 pounds above what you should be

sirsholly -> RE: Cooking lessons 101 for SirsHolly (9/20/2008 10:30:59 AM)

thats what i was thinking...but that may not apply if there are health related issues such as diabetes. The insurance companies seem to change the rules as they go along...

christine1 -> RE: Cooking lessons 101 for SirsHolly (9/20/2008 10:32:08 AM)

it is 100 lbs overweight, or less if you have heart or diabetes issues....my gf just went through this...she's doing great!

thanks Christine. It seems everyone that has it done has only good things to say about it.

christine1 -> RE: Cooking lessons 101 for SirsHolly (9/20/2008 10:34:49 AM)

i had a schoolmate go through this in the early 80's.  it was horrible for her, she looked sickly and felt horrid.  i'm thinking they have made a lot of progress in this area.

nursygirl -> RE: Cooking lessons 101 for SirsHolly (9/20/2008 10:39:34 AM)

back in the 80's they weren't doing banding - they were doing stapling - with the banding they inflate the band postoperatively a little at a time so its not such a severe change - also helps prevent dumping syndrome

sirsholly -> RE: Cooking lessons 101 for SirsHolly (9/20/2008 10:40:19 AM)

i don't think the band was done in the 80's. I am thinking that it was still the stomach stapling...

christine1 -> RE: Cooking lessons 101 for SirsHolly (9/20/2008 10:40:35 AM)

you're right, it was stapling.

nursygirl -> RE: Cooking lessons 101 for SirsHolly (9/20/2008 10:42:07 AM)

*high-fives Holly for being on the same wavelength*

KMsAngel -> RE: Cooking lessons 101 for SirsHolly (9/20/2008 5:20:21 PM)

goes by bmi over here. they RARELY do stapling or stomach resectioning over here anymore. it's considered pretty barbaric. banding is totally reversible, and if you're good and lose a bit of weight prior to surgery, they almost always do it via keyhole.

i've got type 2 diabetes that keeps escalating and high blood pressure. my dad died relatively young of stroke related issues, but had also had a triple bypass some years previous. it was NOT a path i wanted to go down.

it's one of the steps on the "take care of me, now" path i'm walking down (sprinting is for later, lol)

beargonewild -> RE: Cooking lessons 101 for SirsHolly (9/20/2008 5:28:56 PM)

Well angel, I just have kudos for you for what you're doing! *gentle hugs*

nursygirl -> RE: Cooking lessons 101 for SirsHolly (9/20/2008 9:45:38 PM)

I know that angel is going to become a poster girl for banding because she is so motivated!
