Hello, Recently I have been blessed to be guided to a Master who I feel is a wonderful trainer, as well as a most respectful and knowledgeable Dom. Being fairly new to the formalities of old guard, and proper protocols (which is something I am interested in learning about.) feel that growth in that area would be most welcome at this time. I was instructed on creating a petition, in which I am to list my desires in training, why I seek  training from said Master, and what I have to offer.  Easier said than done for some.Never having done anything like this before, and after searching on line for samples of petitions, (even the forums here) I present this question in hopes of getting some ideas on some of the 'offerings" that would be acceptable in YNSHO's. Without further adieu:Would you please be so kind as to list some of the skills you would list  in such a situation?Thank you for your time in reading.Cheers!

to be honest, the many answers you receive will not actually help in this quest. what i had to offer Daddy (sans any petition) will be completely different from the next few posters who respond after me.

my advice is look towards yourself since you're the only person who knows you and take it from there.

good luck

What kind of petition are you asking about? Petitions to serve? Or be collared?

And offerings? Like offerings of service? Of money? Of gifts?

Old Guard usually refers to the gay male leather culture of many years ago hon. Try emailing John Warren on the other side, he should be a good source of info for you.

No. I do not have your answers....but you do

"why I seek  training from said Master"

, "and what I have to offer"

Training is a personal journey....your question feels like you are wanting to cheat on your personal journey...i find that odd.

I understand what you are saying, and do agree that only I hold the answer to what I have to offer. I posted this for a couple of reasons, One being that if another may have/will be in a simuilar situation, this also may help.

Thank you,  I also agree training is personal, and by seeking a Master to train under to learn protocols, from, I feel that is another way for me to grow, as I do tend to learn more from an "hands on" approach. If I wanted to learn how to fix an auto, I seek out a place where to learn that skill as well.

Thank you for the questions asked, and for the advice. it would be a petition for training in Protocol. Some of my offerings would be the free use of my culinary skills, and domestic skills to start.

Then i suggest you simply sit down and write out a petition asking for what you want and what you are offering in return. When you are done, use a thesaurus to find wording that is a bit flowery and elegant.

Well, I don't know if you will understand this as I want you too, but---

Suppose you were to apply to Angie Biddle-Duke for a position of personal attache?

What are you offering, and what is your focus, and what would you expect in way of support and direction?

Thanks again!  For the questions and advice, at times I do feel it is important to have others input, which allows me to "think outside" of my own thought process.  And when I make claims to "Know it all" would someone just stick a fork in me, cause I wil be done at that point!
MMmmm I may just like that! :)

girlivy,
I'm new to old guard protocols as well, but have quickly learned that they vary significantly from location to location.  They also vary from dominant to dominant in terms of how they are interpreted and implimented.  Remember each dominant is still unique.

You've not said if this dominant is one you seek as your Master or simply one you seek to teach you the protocols associated with the old-guard lifestyle.  If the former, it sounds like what you are embarking on is called "begging a collar" or being "under his consideration".  The latter term has been grossly misused by many who are not old-guard to the point where it has a bad connotation for many.  If you are seeking only to be taught how to serve a Master or Mistress, then you are probably seeking what is referred to as a service contract of some kind.

Below is a general outline of what I would include in my petition.

I would start with why I seek the training from this particular Master or Mistress.  I would state what I personally saw in them that made me desire to be their submissive, beginning with the personal strengths and qualities in them which they possess that I admire.  I'm speaking here of integrity, strength of character, intestinal fortitude, a passion for life, a passion for being a Master or learning the skills to be one, being reliable, being a loving and caring or compassionate person; things of tht sort.  I'd follow that with the skills which I see they posses as a Master which I also see in them and admire.  I'd include here, not just their adeptness with certain implements or their style of using them in the dungeon, but their abilities to control their submissives and demonstrate to them how they want to be pleased or want things done their way.

Remember in part, that when you have someone train you, you'll be having them train you to serve them, and not others in general.  However in the old-guard lifestyle, service in general is very important and there are general protocols as to how it is performed.  I have served at an old-guard formal dinner where protocols were very important.  It was a learning experience for me where I took a class beforehand on how things were to be done.  I found it quite rewarding, but it is not for everyone.

Only you can say what your list of desires are in receiving the training and what you hope to learn from it.  If it's to serve the Master as his submissive while under consideration, then that should obviously be stated.  Learning more about the old-guard lifestyle and protocols sounds like an obvious one as well.  Learning more about yourself as a submissive and what you are made of in that regard would seem to be an obvious one to me to include.  The rest would be up to you in terms of what you hoped to receive in terms of specific experiences with the Master, whether it be of sexual service or of an other service only nature.

As to what you have to offer, I'd think an eagerness to learn and to serve would be something to emphasize; that you do desire to serve this Master as his submissive while you learn from him and to do your very best during this period.  I'd then list what skills and character traits you believe you possess.  If you believe you are good at massage, know something about say investing, secretarial or computer skills, etc., then tell him so.  If you know how to cook and clean, or have other useful skills such as gardening for example, those are things he'll also want to hear you state.  Anything that this Master may find of use to him you should tell him about.  If your service will also be of a sexual nature, your abilities or eagerness to please him in various forms might also be appropriate.  I'm not certain about the latter as I've not done this myself and am only sharing what I know of the old-guard lifestyle and how I would approach this myself (Mistress is old-guard).

I hope you find this of some assistance.  I'm sure others will provide additional input.

Perhaps this is the exercise he is teaching you- if you cannot write a comprehensive petition on your own, pehaps you are not yet in a place where entering into that relationship with him is the right thing for you?  Why don't you add "writing a good petition" to your list of things you'd like him to train you on?
