aravain -> Completely Random but :( and possibly serious? (9/28/2008 1:28:11 AM)

So what should one do when their foot has suddenly swollen to a large size, is an angry red at the extremities (toes and heel) and has two areas of distinct dull pain (between the big toe and the second one, and also on the outside top of the foot) with general dull pain when weight is put on it?

>.> I, er, dunno what to do. Would taking one of my asthma anti-histamines help? Any other ideas?

BiteGirl -> RE: Completely Random but :( and possibly serious? (9/28/2008 3:55:48 AM)

Why is it like this?

maybe see a doctor?

GreedyTop -> RE: Completely Random but :( and possibly serious? (9/28/2008 5:03:03 AM)

Yes, what Bite said.. sounds like a Dr visit is in order.  WHile there are medical professionals on this site, an actual PHYSICAL exam would be in order.

chamberqueen -> RE: Completely Random but :( and possibly serious? (9/28/2008 6:31:38 AM)

Keep it elevated and ice it to take down swelling.  Is it possible that you broke a toe bone?  The toe bones actually run almost all of the way to the ankle.  I once slipped and broke a "toe" about halfway up my foot. (I had fainted in the shower and when I feel my foot flew up and hit the bottom of the faucet hard enough to break a bone.)

Yes, your antihistamines might help but only if it is an allergic reaction.   If putting it up and the ice don't help within 8 hours, or if the pain increases, definitely get your butt into the doctors.

R.I.C.E. therapy

Rest
Ice
Compression(ace bandage)
Elevation

It could be a blood clot. Please get to a doctor.

Rule -> RE: Completely Random but :( and possibly serious? (9/28/2008 6:51:34 AM)

First of all, and imperative: you must consult with a physician.

Might be ureum crystals getting stuck in the joints. Might be a lot of other things as well.

Do as cq advises: keep it high. Have the ice in a towel. Drink at least two litres of water per day. Avoid meat and alcohol. Go see a physician as soon as possible.

Do you have any chronic, recurring diseases?

RealSub58 -> RE: Completely Random but :( and possibly serious? (9/28/2008 9:18:21 AM)

Well aravain, you wrote this at 1 in the morning...

are ya sure you didn't kick the bar while you sat on the barstool, totally intoxicated......?

Got a headache this morning too?

There are such things as urgent care centers or ER's or whatever works with you insurance.  I certainly wouldnt be sitting at a computer asking the dumb founded.

natasha66 -> RE: Completely Random but :( and possibly serious? (9/28/2008 12:31:20 PM)

If something like that happened to me, i would get my butt to the ER....and fast.

RCdc -> RE: Completely Random but :( and possibly serious? (9/28/2008 12:45:17 PM)

It could be anything aravain, from thrombosis to a ingrown toenail.  If you believe it is possibly a bite or sting, then yes, antihistamines would help.  If it's joint, then ibruprofen and paracetamol if you are not taking anything else or are not allergic to them, whilst waiting your appointment for the doctor.  Cold compress to reduce swelling.  But do go and see a doctor if you feel concerned or symptoms persist.

Hmmm... and what about compassion?  I believe that your Lord taught that.
Ah well.

aravain -> RE: Completely Random but :( and possibly serious? (9/28/2008 1:00:43 PM)

Thank you everyone :)

The swelling's gone down, and the redness is (mostly) gone, but the pain is still there. As was noted, it WAS around 4 in the morning (where I am) when I posted this. It started around 2:30am.

I've put in a call to my doctor to meet with him. (I couldn't really do that last night/morning) so hopefully it'll be ok.

To Rule:

I do have arthritis in my knee joints... could that be related?

To RealSub58:

If you think I was drinking, you don't know me that well at all. I was playing DnD all night (starting at 6pm until around 4am) and hadn't had a drop of alcohol.

My insurance is... interesting. It'll pay for an ER visit... but no diagnostic tests. However, if I make a doctor's appointment, it will pay for almost anything.

Thanks again everyone!

Ya know .dark. there are times when I am frustrated with people's inquiry into something that is logical and yes, my sarcasm this am delighted me.  I dont hand sarcasm out like some do on these boards as I do not believe it is a character trait that I am endeared to.

I am a RN who is not at all pathophysiologically challenged and could have sold a mirad of causes, possabilities, remedies and practical advice to this list already given.

But at some point common sense and logical deduction need to be employed.

Speaking of "my Lord," guilt and shame have long been replaced with mercy and grace.  I am a human being first and foremost and I do believe in free software.

Challenge away, but I continue to be who I am.
If I am not mistaken, that is what we all ask for.
Acceptance as we are.

Do have a blessed evening (your time).

I don't know anyone on CM in real live save 2 for sure that I know of on this site.

I do apologize for my sarcasm but really,  how are we gonna know what is really wrong without a whole lost of further information.  I decided to reply on this thread instead of the unusual spot on the back thread.  I could poke fun at this one better than at Pinkie.

What I wrote in response to .dark..

PS:  I have not the foggiest clue as to what DnD is and if I really wanted to know, I could google it I am sure.

I do hope you are top of all things very soon !

The amount of sarcasm is not the issue.  Just because your perception is that you are so less than another on the boards may be, does not make you any more of a person, nor the sarcasm more acceptable.  It is not excusable in the eyes of god, the god that you have used as an example in your posts.

Your alleged position has no baring.  There is no reason to offer a myriad of possibilities, but something to do in the interim to conteract the pain and the swelling can be offered ALONG with the advice of seeking medical counsultation.

Which you gave over little of.  Sure, seek medical advice you gave.  But to second guess his intoxication level was not logical deduction at all.  It was purely a second guess.

I am sure your Lord will discuss this with you when the time comes.

Who you are has no relevancy with me.
I ask for nothing from anyone.  No one to ask such from me.
If you desire to be taken at face value and your opinions valuable, strive to be what your lord instructs you to be, do not make excuses and shift blame onto those you believe to be less worthy.  Do not simply preach it - be it.
Acceptance as you are does not negate what you can strive to be.  One receives that which they give out.  That is the reality of grace.

Years ago one of my first real jobs was as a customer service rep for several of AT&T's phone lines.   There is one thing I learned in the nearly 5 years I did this job...    When it comes to people,  common sense is not common.
