I was reading through Mr. Whackadoodle’s attempt to sue Columbia Universities womens study program. You know, the guy that wanted to take out ladies night? He mentions a woman by the name of Caroline Heilbrun and that she commited suicide in 2003. I had one of her books as a textbook years ago called Writing a Woman’s Life. I thought she was phenomenal. It would change the way I would keep journals etc. It came out in the 1970’s, but I did not come across it until 1990 something. There were other interesting things to read and I never looked back.

I was totally shocked that she died in 2003. I thought she died like a lot earlier. In one of her obits she was compared to a Queen of the Lovedu because she had chosen when to die. I had never heard of the Queens of the Lovedu. So, I looked it up. The last one died in
2005 . I’m thinking, I hope I’m as late to my funeral as I am to theirs.

I'm sorry, Caroline Heilbrun was the first woman to be given tenure at Columbia. That is why she was mentioned in the law suit. Does that help?

This is where I found the comparison http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9F02EFDA113FF93BA15751C1A9659C8B63&sec=&spon=&pagewanted=1

I believe Arpig, she is refering to another post on here.

Personally, I don't see how she can be compared to the rain queens, but there ya go.  I get people like to try and exalt others, but at the detriment of a long standing tradition kind of sucks.

Exalt is not to be confused with the word extol because extol should only be used on special occasions.

Either way - I don't see how its applicable to that particular section of women and I find it kind of sucky.  For one thing, the queens didnt all kill themselves.  For another, Heilbrun wasn't a queen nor a leader of traditions.

Actually,
I was thinking more along the lines of being late on the game.  I originally thought Heilbrun had died. Then found out she died in 2003. Then she was compared to the Queen of the Lovedu's. Which I did not know anything about, so I went and looked them up. I thought that it was neato bandito.  Then I found out  the line ended or may have ended in 2005. I don't know if this makes sense but it is like there was history in the making and I missed the whole damn thing. Unless, of course they decide to let the little girl carry on despite she is the daughter of a commoner. If that happens, then I caught it right in time.

I used to be such a fan of her Amanda Cross mysteries. So sorry to hear of her death.
