I agree with the poster that said she has never felt so condescended to in an election before. I think Palin was picked because she's a female. I think choosing Palin was a cynical "see, we have girl politicians too" choice. I DON'T WANT Jane six-pack one heartbeat away from the Presidency. It alarmed me when she said she didn't hesitate when asked. Didn't she give a little thought to what should be the most responsible and daunting job in the world??
I'm not thrilled with the Dem line-up but I can't stand the thought of McBush for 4 years.

Am I the only person that read "Why Women Hate S Palin" as satire?
Also, Number Six, is there a reason that nearly every time you refer to Palin you refer to her tits?

It's close.  36 years.

"Biden was first elected to the Senate in 1972, and became the fifth-youngest senator in U.S. history. He was re-elected to the Senate in 1978, 1984, 1990, 1996, and 2002, and has served for the sixth-longest period among current senators."

It was intimated that she is getting some sexist short shrift, and by god, I am gonna see that she gets it.

But perfectly fine with a guy who has never run anything???  Palin gets to watch.  She gets to learn.  Your guy will be expected to get it right from day one.

He's had eight years representing his constituents, far better than Palin's two. He'll put together a good team and listen to their counsel. Look at the people who are advising him, look at the great campaign team he's put together.

But this whole experience/lack of experience argument is a red herring. What's the use of experience if the person who has it is headed in the wrong direction?

Look what the Republicans have done with the country--lied to us, lead us into a quagmire of war based on those lies, stolen a chunk of our civil liberties, politicized the Justice Department, seriously damaged our good standing in the world, gutted our educational system, ignored the devastation of our busiest port city, neglected to enforce existing regulations on financial institutions with disasterous consequences, decimated employment opportunities, and refused to begin the turn from oil to wind, solar, and other energy sources. And that's just off the top of my head.

I usually vote Green, but this year it's Obama and Biden all the way.

Scarlett

Close is not accurate, I have sweltered for some time out here (back when you was a nice girl, LOL) with the sort of nitpicking that lead to threads that described in excruciating detail, how we were not at war with Iraq, but in a conflict, and some government statistical sites that explained how people were dying to go to the conflict and how people were not a problem.

I naturally assumed we were being fastidious, nothing more.

I acknowledge that Biden has 36 years in government service, and John McCain much more, and both with no miracles to flout.

It's impossible to hate someone as stupid as Sarah Palin, the more I see her on TV, the more I pity her because she is allowing herself to be used a political puppet. Though one shouldn't feel too sorry for her because on many levels she is a victim of her own ego and vanity. She's like a rabbit in the headlights, she is clueless, vacuous and intellectually retarded, she really does need proptecting from the behind the scenes fixers who are using her.

Please show me, in Palin's own words or actions, where she clearly indicates that she wants only abstinence taught in school and where she desires women to have absolutely no choices.  I'm particularly interested in hearing about her support for ban of all birth control, the forced gestation to term for rape and incest victims, and the criminalization of giving babies up for adoption.

Well it looks like we aren't the only ones. Seems quite a few Alaskans HATES her too.

Describing an anti- Palin rally in Alaska:

"Never, have I seen anything like it in my 17 and a half years living in Anchorage.  The organizers had someone walk the rally with a counter, and they clicked off well over 1400 people (not including the 90 counter-demonstrators).  This was the biggest political rally ever, in the history of the state.  I was absolutely stunned.  The second most amazing thing is how many people honked and gave the thumbs up as they drove by.  And even those that didn’t honk looked wide-eyed and awe-struck at the huge crowd that was growing by the minute.  This just doesn’t happen here."

I saw that article and it made me angry because it is dead wrong and it is sexist. Puhlease.... hate Sarah Palin because she is pretty? Then tell me why I am an Angelina Jolie fan... she makes Palin look like a dish of Alpo (most of the rest of us too).

I didn't think the article was sexist.  The main point was not that women hate her for being "pretty."  The main point was that women are; excuse me for saying it but....bitches to each other.  From my own personal experiences with women, I find that to be absolutely true.  I have never dated a woman that didn't have a couple of women she worked with that she thought of as mortal enemies.  I'm not talking about a common dislike; I mean soap-operaesque, melodramatic, seething hatred for women they barely knew.   Most of the time it was over extremely petty nonsense.  I find nothing sexist about that observation.

The main point to pick up on perhaps is that women are people too, which is to say not all of a kind and interchangeable as many men seem to regard them, occasioning the idea that if one woman acts in such and such a manner, then it must be common to all.

Sexism at its best is to reduce all women to the lowest common denominator and thus to disregard what any woman says or does whilst at the same time holding all women to some unrealistic ideal of how they ought to be according to the psycho-sexual preferences of the male and then damning them when they turn out unable to live up to this ideal 24/7, what with the unfortunate flaws which being human bring with them.

What annoys women most perhaps about Sarah Palin is that she is fulfilling perfectly a role which fulfils every sexist aim on the agenda, and is being presented (and presenting herself) as the model American woman - with the implication that women who disagree with her or find her disagreeable are wrong and merely bitter that they dont measure up to the sexist role model she represents.

This is why I don't care for her:

She was a ploy by the Republican party.  All they had left for "unique" was the female element. If they wanted to win anything, they should have gone with Condi.  But I think she is smart enough to distance herself from the
Republican party to sustain any future in her political career.

She used her um at the end to "clinch" her mommy/hockey mom image.  Women are too smart to accept that kind of manipulation using her "prop".

She's an obvious puppet and doesn't care. She has a shot at becoming president   if McCain is elected.
To me, I find that allowing people to use a female that way indicates someone who is incapable of gaining power on her own.

Then the winking and folksy crap.  That just a personal turn off no matter who uses it.

But then she can see Russia from her house :)

This pretty much sums up my feelings in a nutshell. I actually do not think she is any prettier than the average okay looking teacher or librarian. I know alot of women much better looking.

See I could turn it around and ask why perfectly sane and, to all appearances, reasonably intelligent people, especially men, are allowing themselves to be suckered by her package.

I honestly tried to find a reason to not be sickened by the idea of her holding the second highest, with a 1 in 7 chance of the top, office in the land.........and I cannot find one redeeming quality there.

I think y'all are just turned on by the naughty teacher/librarian look and are blind to her very real, faults.

I'm not wild about Palin, but I certainly don't hate her.

The more I ponder the debate, actually, the more she reminds me of cotton candy--colorful, fun, and festive at first glance, but largely insubstantial and prone to causing a tummy ache.

The reasons I don't like her are simple:

1) She doesn't have a fucking clue. She didn't even know the definition of the job, according to the Constitution, the other night at the debate. Biden had to remind her of Article One. (You'd think that someone running for an office would at least look up it's definition before spouting off.)

2) Her religious views, and my idea of personal liberty clash. She's fundie Christian, and wants to shut down women's choices over their own reproductive systems. She wants to dumb down the American school system by teaching creationisim. She wants to ban books. She's anti-wiccan.

3) From all reports, she abuses power, and outright lies, on a regular basis. Troopergate, the bridge to nowhere fiasco, the lie about her supporting Alaska's divestment from Darfur, how the troops are at "pre-surge levels" (we actually have about 17,000 more than when the surge started) the deliberate lies about McCain's tax and health care plans... etc., etc..

4) She just plain gives me the creeps. I grew up in the middle of Illinois, around people like her. Let me tell you, anyone who waves the "I'm from a small town" flag and thinks it's a positive, is either deluded, or just plain doesn't know what the fuck they are talking about. Small towns, my friends, are where folks drink themselves into stupors, attend church to support their own narrow world views by surrounding themselves with like minded people, and get their political opinions from right wing radio and TV. Take a look at the mid-winter suicide rate in small towns sometime, compared to the rest of the nation. Small towns are vest pocket universes of boredom, desperation, and ignorrance.

Believe it or not, the world is a much, much bigger, and more complex place than even a lifetime in Wassilla, Alaska would have you believe.

Two?   Kind of convenient how you forget to count 6 years as mayor, and four more on the city council.  Or the year as chair of the oil and gas commission where her reaction to encountering corruption was to challenge it instead of getting a bigger yard, as Obama did.

And that's before we address your ridiculous pretence that "representing constituents" by voting 'present' in the legislature is in any way comparable to someone in the executive office.

From NBC's Katie Primm and Mark Murray
By the way, as has been pointed out, Palin backed abstinence-only education during her 2006 gubernatorial race. In an Eagle Forum Alaska questionnaire, Palin gave this response to the following question:

Will you support funding for abstinence-until-marriage education instead of for explicit sex-education programs, school-based clinics, and the distribution of contraceptives in schools?

Palin: Yes, the explicit sex-ed programs will not find my support.

http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2008/09/01/1320417.aspx

Now I do not know about any choices, but I will say that she wants to seriously hamper those most in danger of having an unwanted pregnancy the knowledge to prevent them... which to me means that she does not like knowledge leading to power over our destiny...

Now I know a lot of people think sex is a taboo topic, especially religious zealots... it kinda underscores my belief in a separation of church and state
