So is the one that the sun rises in the east.  Someday maybe it won't.  but it is a pretty sure bet, I was unaware that quibbling over the myopic differentiation in words was the issue that failed it for all cases.

The sun does not rise at all. It never has.

in the common sense you fuckin' Z A it does.

to ascend above the horizon, as a heavenly body.
one of the many dictionary definitions, that we (here I use the royal we, one of commonality, not including you) might commonly use.

yeah, OK.

The world's only 6000 years old, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, obviously planted by the devil, and people who feel in their souls the world is flat are entitled to their opinions.

Fun talkin' with ya.

Yeah OK
Remember by science... time is relative no contrary evidence needed...and to those who believe the universe is a bubble or in imaginary time are entitled to their opinions as well.

Nice talking to you too.

Evolution is a theory. Nothing more, and nothing less. It is not proven absolutely--and likely could not ever be proven absolutely.

Insistence that evolution is anything but theory is irrational, illogical, and decidedly unscientific.

No. Evolution is a fact. Populations change over time is evolution. This has been observed and is a fact.

The theory of evolution is the only scientific explanation of that observed fact.

Theories are not fact.

I am indeed correct.  How many dictionaries do you want to research?  And unless your name appears embossed as an editor of the OED, you lose, and even if it does you are simply not in any way correct.

I'm trying to figure out where the problem is here. Is it that you just don't know anything about science, or is it the English language that you have trouble with?

gravity is a fact. It is a description of a set of phenomena most often seen as stuff falling down. The theiry of gravity is the best scientific explanation of those facts. Evolution and the theory of evolution have the same relationship.

Actually, gravity is not a fact. It is an explanation for observed phenomena, and one that has been significantly revised over the centuries.

Are you claiming things don't fall down? There is a fact, we label it gravity, and we explain it scientifically, we label that the theory of gravity.

As to being significantly revised so has the theory of evolution.

blacksword,

Life itself began as a chemical process. Perhaps you recall the somewhat famous experiment where a biologist and a physicist combined basic elements into a beaker, along with the gasses of a primordial Earth, and applied heat and electrical strikes to it for several weeks. The result was a soupy mixture of amino acids, which are the building blocks of biochemistry. These amino acids coninued to interact, until random chance finally caused a molecule which was able to make copies of itself. From there (after several million years), and the right contitions, these molecules began to copy...and became viral-like lifeforms...(complex protiens) millions of years after that, they made a minor mutation: an outer cell wall. Those were the real start of life on Earth... the most primative examples of single cell organisims.
From there, life kept becoming more complex, and specialized as it adapted to ever changing enviromental conditions.
So, from basic elements, common to all parts of the universe, to organic chemistry, to the final result of life forming. All it takes is the right materials, the right contitions, and a mind bogglingly long span of time.

Interesting. My thing is that with all the testing and documenting results watched thru the scientific processes i am suposed to trust that this is how it happened? Who saw it and documented while it did?  And because nobody was around while it did who replicated the process and then observed it? If the answer is nobody then i just cant accept it on faith that it happened this way.

I claim nothing.

There is an observed phenomenon. There is an explanation offered up for that phenomenon. With additional observations and cogitation, the explanation is refined, altered, and hopefully improved.

So it is for the phenomenon we reference as gravity, and so it is for the phenomenon we reference as evolution.

And, by your own reasoning, neither explanation of the associated phenomenon is itself a fact.

You don't actually think this stuff is clever do you?

It is a fact that things fall down. That and sudry othe rfacts are refered to as gravity. We have developed a scientific theory that attempts to explain that fact. We call that the theory of gravity. Gravity is a fact. The theory of gravity is a theory. The exact same thing applies to evolution and th etheory of evolution.
