I wouldn't want someone who "had" references. But, I'm not looking to jump into a big D/s relationship, and I'm not looking for casual play partners.
When I'm thinking about meeting somebody, then I think it's on him to provide information about himself just as beth said Merc did at the beginning. It's not that I will actually call him at 6 a.m. But, if I know I could, then it's ok. If he starts making lame excuses why I can't call at certain times, or if he can only meet on, say, Sunday mornings when he's doing errands near my town, then that's a red flag and I won't meet him. It's just the fact that he's willing to provide personal information to make me comfortable is what does make me comfortable.
Just wanted to mention that I'm willing to provide the info about myself, too, if we've reached that stage, to make him comfortable, too. But that's the point....it takes a little time to reach that stage.
