"Transgender Georgia official wins legal battle"

"ATLANTA - Georgia's top court ruled in favor of a transgender politician who was slapped with a lawsuit by two political opponents who claimed she misled voters by running as a woman.

The Georgia Supreme Court's unanimous ruling on Monday found that the two political opponents who filed the lawsuit failed to produce evidence of fraud, misconduct or illegal action after claiming that Michelle Bruce bamboozled voters by identifying herself as female.

"This is a great victory for me and anyone who believes in equality," Bruce said in a statement. "It gives me hope that the Georgia Supreme Court did what was right and did not buy into hate-based politics." "

I'm quite surprised and pleased - if this can happen in Georgia, maybe there's hope yet.

Considering how backwards and deep within the Bible belt we are here in GA... it is a good sign of hope... I'd expect something like this in CA where things are bit more progressive so one can only hope that this is a sign change is in the wind.

In California, the suit would likely be immediately dismissed as frivolous. So the fact that the case actually never made it to the state supreme court actually says nothing nice about my home state.

One thing Ive noticed here in the last few weeks is that georgia seems to be its own political island down here. Gaurenteed the decision wouldent have gone this way in alabama
