More than any other type, holiday music tends to really evoke a strong "mood" from me. A few bars of "So This is Christmas" or "Same Old Lang Syne" by Dan Fogelberg has me instantly melancholy. Ertha Kitt's "Santa Baby" will perk me right back up, as will "Christmas Wrapping" or "I am Santa Claus" with Bob Rivers.

There are songs I can't stomach either, like the one about the little boy buying shoes for his dying mother on Christmas Eve. Too sweetsie. I dislike "A Few of My Favorite Things" so much, I made my own lyrics to sing in my head in case I accidentally hear it at the mall.

So what songs out you in the holiday mood?

****

Low carb diets and self tanning streaks,
Incomplete profiles and condoms that leak.
Destructive motives and cheating men,
People that "try" with my vanilla friend.
Rough play that HURTS more than it stings,
These are a few of my unfavorite things.

Nascar racing and monster truck shows,
Conservative politics and music that blows.
Unsightly hickeys left on my boob,
Anal foreplay without proper lube.
Hypocrisy and stubborn toilet bowl rings,
These are a few of my unfavorite things.

Morning work outs when I am hung over,
People that ask me to suck off old Rover.
Polite conversation and endless small talk,
Picture collections that only show cock.
A person whos needy and desperately clings,
These are a few of my unfavorite things.

When my head hurts,
When my shoulders ache,
When Im feeling itchy in my own skin.
I simply remember my unfavorite things
And then I have a good grin.

I'm a big TSO fan. Christmas Eve in Sarajevo and Boughs of Holly put that extra bounce in my step and make me nod my head to the music. I probably look quite silly when I hear it being played in the stores and begin bopping myhead and humming along. Ohh well, it makes me happy. lol

Ghosts of Christmas Eve and Bing/Bowie version of Litttle drummer boy make me quite solemn. But it is a good kind of solemn, reflective and pensive.

Absolutely HATE Domenick the Christmas Donkey. And I'm Sicilian.
Absolutely Love The Cheech and Chong Christmas one. It brings back memories of driving to my parents home at seven a.m. every Christmas morning after I was married to open presents with my family. I'm going to be 38 (ugh) in February and to this day I have never missed a Christmas morning with my entire family. Love em. Anyway... on the 45 minute drive there they always played this song on the radio and we used to laugh the whole way through. We still do everytime we hear it.
Jose Feliciano's Feliz Navidad is one of those songs that once it gets in your head it never leaves. It could be the middle of summer and I'd think of it and for the next friggin month it would always be playing in the back of my head. So I used to sing it out loud so it would be in the back of someone else's head. I figured if I was in song hell...they might as well join me. So I'd have to say I hate that one too.
Oh and I love the Crosby/Bowie one too.

I suck at spelling. Edited for that

I like so many varieties of music on a daily basis. So, just about any sort of Christmas music.
The one CD that is in my car at the moment is an Amy Grant Cd.
Grown up Christmas list is one of my favorites on it.
Breath of Heaven as well.

I like Christmas music but not the traditional stuff. My favorite is this Blues collection, and I've also got Cajun, Caribbean, James Brown and Louis Armstrong Xmas CDs. And my absolute favorite Xmas song is Fairytale of New York by the Pogues . . . how could you not like a song that starts off with:

"It was Christmas Eve babe
In the drunk tank"

Sure beats Bing Crosby.

I've been working on my Christmas CD. Everything from "We wish you a Reggae Christmas" to "Jingle Hells Bells".

For some reason, "Christmas at Ground Zero" and "The Real Slim Santa" are getting a lot of play when I'm just hanging out at home.

quote:

The Real Slim Santa

You all act like you've never seen Santa before
toys all over your floor. Who the hell you think brought them?
It wasn't drunk Dad, or your mother. That whore!
It was me, now I'm skinny so I'll tell you the score.
It's the return of Christmas, but not that jolly fat elf.
My ass got so big I couldn't wipe it myself.
My docter said "Santa, you've never looked worse.
Lose 200 pounds or your hearts gonna burst."

Everybody loved me big and fat. Ho ho ho.
Big ass Santa. Look at him walkin around
his belly like jelly, have some more eggnog.
They didn't give a shit if my arteries clogged.
So I said "Fuck them!" and I joined a gym.
Started eatin lowfat cookies, drinkin milk that was skim.
I lost so much weigh that I could see my candy cane
and Mrs. Clause is happy I can fuck her again.

Your name is on my list. Your name is on my list.
And if you're nice not naughty I might give you a little gift.

Here's a message for you if you're a big fat slob.
If your guts in the way, a girl won't bob on your knob.
You can't expect a ho to gobble your goo
if you just sit there eating twinkies while you're watching Scooby Doo
If you aint nothin but chubby, no girl wants a fat hubby
You'll end up working construction,
Your love life lying in ruins and destruction.
and by the time you're thirty
you'll be asking Santa for liposuction.
But if you're thin you'll get seduction.

Underneath the mistletoe
Sing the chorus, and it goes.

I'm Slim Santa, yes I'm the real Kringle.
All you fly-girls like my balls because they jingle.
Won't the real Slim Santa please stand up.
Please stand up.
Please stand up.
Yes I'm Slim Santa yes I'm the St. Nick.
All you other fat Santas can suck my fat dick.
So won't the real Slim Santa please stand up.
Please stand up.
Please stand up.

Ho ho ho ho
I guess theres a Slim Santa in all of us.
On Donner on Blitzen.
Lets get the fuck out of here.

I have a few cds with brass Christmas music, I like those the most.
My son has some jazz, we take turns on Christmas eve, and Christmas day with the music.

Bwaahahaha. I appreciate the way this stays true to the phrasings and attitudes of the original artist. Now I have to go look for it.

I'm in love with Christmas music... also a huge fan of TSO. Maybe this year, I'll even spring for an album. But, I'm broke! So, I dunno. We'll see.

I have a parody to "We Three Kings" that is rather humorous, but, I dunno if anyone hwre would get it, as it is LARP based....

Oh, thanks a lot, Aileen! Now I have "Jingety Jing, Hee Haw Hee Haw" running through my head! LMAO I never heard that song until I moved to the east coast 10 yrs ago....it's still a novelty to me!

My all-time favorite holiday music is the Carpenters' Christmas Album, and especially, Merry Christmas, Darling.

Katy,

I hope nothing too painful or traumatic happened that wrecked the experience of hearing such great music!

A partridge in a pear tree,
Two turtle doves,
Three french hens
Four golden rings
Five lords a leaping
Six , well nothing is coming to mind for 6 how about 6 subs a leaping?

You know there is a BDSM variety of the song going aroung the internet.

Anyone know what the 12 days mean? Now that I'm thinking about it I think I left out a day there someplace.

Anything Bing is always good. My favorite carols are "Carol of the Bells", "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen", "Good King Winceslas", and "Greensleeves" (yes, it's a carol). They sound so pretty on the pipe organ, or simply sung. (And for all curious, the pipe organ is the only instrument I can play. Seriously.)
