www.bbc.co.uk/watchdog Sofas made in China are being linked to extreme allergic reactions, including one death in the UK. The sofas, made from leather, apparently harbour some god-awful toxic substance. However, sourcing sofas from China and selling them as if they'd been made in UK, is very lucrative, so its all good. E

No surprises there, Lady E. The Industrial Revolution was both a benefit and a curse. The Western cultures have gone through their own pains that China is experiencing now. Remember the stories by Charles Dickens? I am looking for some new plates and dishes and to avoid buying anything made in China am searching on Fair Trade sites and checking out local pottery studios.

LORD BLESS US AND SAVE US! killer sofas! Whoohoo! Wouldn't you need to be naked and with sweating open pores to absorb any unreasonable level of toxin? Sounds like an orgy to the death to me. I'm going to gnaw mine right now, just to live dangerously, never mind russian roulette, I'm off to DFS for some serious thrillseeking. Why stop there, I have a chinese kettle that looks at me in a funny way, hmm! If I drink milk while playing with toys on a sofa, that must be riskier than eating fugu after insulting the chef! Oh well, Matron is ordering us all back to bed....

I honestly think that we should place a ban on items inported from China until they get there stuff together and make it without poisons or date rape drugs. The loss of income to those traitor companies who fled with their jobs on the NAFTA boat would be a shame.
