slavejali -> What do you stand up for? (12/10/2005 12:54:40 PM)

i have had an interesting experience recently which has provoked this topic.

What do you stand up to be counted for?

If someone you loved or who you considered a friend was doing something that was unfair or just plain stupid to someone else would you stand up for justice in the situation or would your loyalty to your love or friend be paramount in your thoughts so much so that you stayed quiet and let the injustice continue?

My loyalty is paramount, but if I had a friend who exhibited that kind of tendency or behavior, I'd call our friendship an error in my judgement and reduce ours to an aquaintance rather than a friendship, after speaking up against the wrong (and it really depends on the seriousness of the situation). I'm not one to stay quiet, my Master would vouch for that. "Unfair or just plain stupid" is exactly that. I would have to give my 2ยข.

Same. Just not in me to stay quiet about things like that. The guilt would eat me up :(

One of the things my friends (and family) know is that if while i love them with all my heart i'm also honest with them. i'd hope they'd be honest with me as well if they saw me doing something unfair, especially if other people were involved. Seeing them do something that's just plain stupid, however, might be a different matter. If asked my opinion i would give it honestly, but let's face it..we all do dumb things from time to time, and usually the only way we learn "better" is by our mistakes. The other problem with the "just plain stupid" intervention is that i might not have all of the facts, and what i might thing is stupid really isn't that way at all.

cheers

If this so called friend was envolved in activities that would harm the well being of other people and there loved ones then he wouldn't be my friend. To the best of my knowledge, none of my friends are child molesters, rapists, drunk drivers, abusers, nor wanted by the law for horrid actions. If and when I find these things out about people, I'll do more than just end the friendship.

If I was befriended by someone who later confessed or ended up being involved with scams, cons, theft, or being lazy on the job, I would first warn them of there consequences. If I had reason not to turn them in I would atleast keep the friendship to only an acquaintance. After all, there's no telling when this person my want to scam me so if nothing else, I'd keep my distance as far as possible.

Not everything is a need to tattle tale situation. In most cases I just end the friendship and give the individual my two cents worth. In any case, I do not lie nor cover up for anyone. I've been known to look the other way from time to time on friboulus actions only to remind that individual that sooner or later they'll get caught and be exposed.

I always stand up for what I believe in. I'm constantly getting in little arguments with a good conservative friend of mine. I tend to be very liberal but I'm not pushy. Everyone has the right to think for themselves but no one has the right to hurt someone because of such ignorance. Hehe you will find me always talking to the handicap and at pride events :)

it has taken Me all day to formulate a response to this---I am known for not suffering fools well---but I stand up for what is deeply morally right--from the time I was a teen I fought for the moral issues, I started TAD ( teens against drugs which became DARE), I worked tirelessly for the Rape Crisis line, that led to becoming a NO police officer where I specialized in alternative lifestyles--this all brings Me to your thread----

recently--I had a female sub that was under My protection as well as the protection of a Dom--despite the repeated lessons, reprimands--she never changed her behavior-- to the extent that when her child reported a family sexual abuse, (and finding out that she gave up her custody of that child to a non relative) she did nothing, no attorneys, no fighting, nothing BUT she continued her pursuit of a Master and she continued to share her life with a child unable to deal with it and allowed her child to do pot and send her naked pics over the net---no matter how much money I gave, how much we gave support, things never changed--a sad thing from a woman 36 yrs old--so I walked away---it hurts, but people MUST take responsibility for their actions--amd when it comes to children--nothing less is unacceptable

What do you stand up to be counted for?
============

truth
justice
and the American way....
i am against social injustices, snobs thinking they are better than others...pretending to be all high and mighty and they are people just like me...they get the same 6 by 6 by 3 that i get...and they stay in their grave just as long as i do.
i am against know-it-alls....those that won't listen to reason and then when something screws up they aren't adult enough to carry their own blame.
i am against most of society......i hate conformity.......

i stand up for lil kittens and puppies and other animals that need to be defended.......against people that pick on those unable to defend themselves..........against any idiot that thinks their way is the only damned way.......

okay
off my soapbox

sorry

take care

There was a time when I always came out ''swashbuckling'', thinking calling a spade a spade no matter when or how it hurts was the correct thing to do. However, my perception about this has changed.

It's my feeling that in the name of justice we can still tell the truth to that loved one or friend, but the timing needs to be right and the way in which we do so needs to be tempered with a bit of empathy and understanding.

So yes, absolutely, we can remain loyal to both our loved ones and our own convictions.

I've had this happen.... my sister was angry because I didn't side with her... she said "You're my sister, you're supposed to be on my side"... Later, when she was the one that was wrong and I was on her side I asked her "Doesn't it feel better to know that I'm on your side because I believe in you and not because of some false sense of loyalty?"

Yeah, it did. I love my friends and family enough to argue with them.

It's very hard to answer this question. As i understand the hypothetical, someone i love has engaged in behavior that violates my sense of morality. Well, i need more information.

1. Did the actor adhere to his/her own sense of morality when the act was committed? (i do not require blind obedience to my moral code from people i love.)

2. Was the act significant or not? (i'm not taking anyone to task for not leaving the waitress a tip; i'd just go back and leave $$ myself.)

3. Does the actor realise they made a mistake...and do they need comforting because of the gulit?

i could think of other pertinent questions but these will do to begin.

Generally I stand up for those who cannot stand up for themselves.

If I had a friend who was mistreating someone. Yes, I would step in and tell them. If they were doing something wrong, yes I would tell them.
I am however also loyal to my friends, yet I strive for people to have morals as well.

I will dump anyone if they lie to me. People don't realize that until it is too late.

Chris123 -> RE: What do you stand up for? (12/12/2005 11:27:57 PM)

I will always stand up for honesty and fairness no matter the social ettiquettes I may impose on.

Kindred2Evil -> RE: What do you stand up for? (12/13/2005 2:27:27 PM)

I stand for the things I believe in regardless of how it makes others feel, and that includes family and friends. Right is right and wrong is wrong, that's just how I was raised. There are very few grey areas out there for me.
Morals, ethics, a sense of self...those are things I believe in and how I would raise the unmentionable.
If a friend or family member were doing something that trampled on my beliefs, morals or ethics, then I'd have no problem saying something to them about it.
Loyalty has it's place, but what good are you doing the one who is just flat out wrong in their behavior by supporting them?
It's like the mother who turned her son in for committing murder. In my opinion she was completely in the right for doing it.
If you truelly care about someome and love them, you'd want to make sure they knew there were consequences for their actions.

I stand up for not having to stand up. I love sitting down. Why can't the Walmart check out have benches?
