>It is a struggle just to remember to breathe.< I think you have put things into perspective here. There is a certain cleansing element to pain that is immediate, physical, and adminstered by a loved one. Its like a very nice reduction of the whole world and all existence into compressed time and space. I'm reminded of a near death experience I had in Costa Rica where I almost drowned in a severe white water undertow on a rafting trip. For about 30 seconds I could not breathe or escape and when I broke free, I could not breath with the water in my lungs. I was trembling and shaken to my core, but once I was over it, there was a kind of exhilaration.
