With all due respect, i find it fascinating whenever someone...particularly a Femmedomme...complains about someone's inability to write an intelligent post with proper spelling. While i am a well-educated person, and have learned to write and touch-type early in life, some of my other friends (and i do not have friendships with people who are not reasonably intelligent) have trouble with writing and spelling. That is probably one of the reasons that many are list-lurkers...meaning that they just hang out and don't participate. Of course, there are other reasons, such as shyness or curiosity (the worst being lookie-loos who are there simily for self-gratification).
i have many friends that cannot type, but are very intelligent and well-read. And, believe it or not, the quality of a college education is not what it was when i attended.
That's my gripe and i'm sticking to it!

Tell your friends that there are letters printed on each key. They should look for the letter that matches what they want to type. If they hit the wrong key, they can erase it and start over. And after they are finished, read what they have typed to make sure there are no mistakes. They don't have to go to college to learn this.

Estring,
by the way You kill me with Your quick wit. Some people are just too lazy to check what they type or if they do might not know that what they spelled was incorrect.

Estring,
While I agree with you that the so-called "hunt-and-peck" method of typing can be accomplished by anyone with reasonable intelligence and a whole lot of patience, those people who have been accustomed to typing on a typewriter (yeah, some people still use 'em) still have problems typing on a computer keyboard. It comes down to a matter of practice. I do agree with both you and jill that, if a spell-checker feature is available, people should really take advantage of it.
What really brought me to this subject is that I continually hear gripes from people (mostly Femdommes) about the aparent stipidity of both sincere and wannabe submissives, and their inability to correctly phrase a sentence, and then follow up their message using a spell-check.
Of course, in real-time chat, there are no spell-checkers. One better make sure they can type fast, then double-check their message before they press the "Send" button.
Very often, when I compose a message, I'll write it out completely, put it aside, then re-read it and send it later. Being a former newspaper editor, very often it takes several readings to pick out a flaw that the mind sometimes overlooks.
No offense intended, brothers and sisters.

if Y/you're on a pc Y/you no doubt have access to a word processing program with spell check.

And what does your spell check say about Y/you, etc? Does it have an option for Gorean third person speech as well?

For example a sub should say "i want a Dominant to dominate me"... not "i want a dominate".

If we're checking dictionaries for correct word usage, I'd really like to see an accepted dictionary that lists submissive as a noun. A "sub" is a boat that operates underwater or a long sandwich, afaik. Submissive/dominant used as nouns happens to be my personal pet peeve. (They're adjectives - descriptors, not things!)

I have to say that if I was looking at your resumes for a job vacancy, most wouldn't make the first cut.. and that says a lot for the state of schooling today.. *shudders* and is so glad to have had great English teachers at schools that concentrated on learning.

They concentrated on learning, but not on grammar?

Pot. Kettle. Black.

Feh.

Estring,
Just for the record, I've actually seen two-finger typists who can type faster than most touch-typists. I can probably find references to it in "The Guinness Book of World Records," but I'd rather spend my time drinking the Stout. *lol*
Best regards,

As a relay operator, I am federally required to be able to type 60 words per minute (no caps, no punctuation) - and I also have noticed, at work, a 4 finger 'hunt and peck' typist who types faster than some of the touch typists who have been doing the job for 10+ years

As for my previous poist, political correctness has long been a pet peeve of mine - and I was trying to 'poke fun' at the PC crowd with that post, not anyone or any group in particular (other then the PC crowd, of course)

Since the turn of the century, isn't using proper grammar and punctuation considered GAY??
