The press are screaming like there's no tomorrow that this will curtail their freedom - well you know what? I dont care. This is another industry where they argued that they should govern themselves as to standards and so on - and it has been shown time and again to have failed.

On an added note, the real problem is the stupid sods who keep buying these trashy Sunday "newspapers" that delight in ripping people's lives apart without any right of defence or reply. The same people who cried rivers when Princess Di was killed being chased for more trash to print for these same morons to read. "Gay Nazi Vicar Denies Satanic Sex Orgy" might be a joke headline from the Viz (adult) comic - but it so easily could appear in one of these publications.

As I so often maintain - 70% of the population is stupid; shouldnt be allowed out to choose a paper, shouldnt have the funds to do so and have benefitted little from the ability to read.

I think this whole event is, in a way, benefiting the kink community. Its an actual demonstrative example that we dont want to shove our values onto anyone else. We just want to be left alone. 45 years of private bedroom activity goes a long way in demonstrating that kinksters want to keep their bedroom activities in the bedroom

Status: offline 		Unfortunately, Max is well known as a sarcastic and often caustic person who created enemies within F1.
The remark in the interview about Mussolini having his office miles from the door was telling. Frank Williams (a wheelchair user) always had to be carried inelegantly piggy back style up flights of stairs when called to see Mosley because the interviews were coincidentally never held in chair accessed buildings.
It is regrettable that it was this part of his life that was attacked, but some greater understanding may yet come of it. He is now reinvented as a defender of privacy and good luck to him on that.

I had an interesting chat with a media studies professor who I know. It seems that the kiss and tell tripe printed by many newspapers is actually having the opposite effect as the average reader is getting sick to death of reading about it. It stems from the time before Dianas death in the RTA where many newspapers were page to page "Royal divorce" etc etc.
 
Then after all of the stick that Diana received, the papers changed tune and that was seen as being two faced by many. Despite the old saying "todays news, tomorrows chip papers" people do remember that sort of about face.
 
If you looked at the NoTW's blog after the Mosley outing it was initially pro-NoTW until the public realised that they were being fed lies yet again and they soon turned. When they lost the case and went on the "moral offensive" a good 95% of the public response was very anti-NoTW.
 
Now "Dodgy" Dacre of the Daily Wail has chipped in and if you look at various media and journalistic web forums, again a good 95% opf the users are anti-Dacre. Though I like the fact we have a "free press"m, they have abused their freedoms far too much. The different between "publoc interest" and "of intererst to the public" has been deliberately blured and the PCC carries on letting the Wapping mafia get away with it!
 
When the French media were restricted in the early 1970's again, the French newspapers screamed "end of journalism" but it never happened. No newspapers closed, no journalists were sacked as a result of falling readership. You now get newspapers reporting genuine news, not which slapper shagged which premership footballer last weekend, or whats going on in the soaps! As our newspapers can not be trusted then if Mosley wins, which the smart money says he will, the EUHR will be modified and the Wapping mafia will have to play ball.
 
I for one am looking forward to it!

Is a footballer bedding a model really in the public interest, or the latest supermodel with a coke habit, or the private actitivities of a law abiding individual?

Some of the stuff that's in our tabloid newspapers really is ridiculous, but then we do live in the celebrity age.

I suppose the grey area relates to those in a position of authority: government, church, head of state etc. Are these people entitled to their prviacy, or are their private actions in the public interest by virtue of their position within society?

That very subject is exactly what the footballer Ashley Cole is now suing the NoTW for, and the smart money says he will win as well. Despite the fact he and his wife Cheryl have sold their stories to the likes of Hello etc, the ar4ggument is that in those cases they have permotted the media priviledged access to their private lives, which they can control.
 
The case is about a report that the NoTW made claiming that aAshley Cole had misrepresented himself in those interviews by denying that he had affairs. ThE NoTW believe that their story was "public interest" as Ashley & Cheryl Cole accepted monies after giving false statements. The claimant states that ir is accepted generally that no-one believes much of what is printed in magazines such as Hello, OK etc, and that this is widely accepted by the media and the general public. Thus no deception was made in accepting payments after the interviews. It seems that the Coles case has more credence than that of the NoTW.
 
So News Int could be paying out more damages when it comes to the High court, oh dear, what a damn shame (NOT!).

I agree with your sentiments HungryTiger,and I hope the benefits keep coming.
I dont want to shove values onto anyone else either.
Is it not worthy of note that (even if it is Mosley) in this case a change of strategy appears to be successful.........and attack seems to be becoming the successful option.
