Please correct me if I am wrong but wern't the folks who drove those airplanes into the WTC from Saudi Arabia (our ally).  Bush & co. though did not waste much time in attacking two countries that had nothing to do with it.
Osama is also from Saudi Arabia.
So the question is, if the "terrorist" try to burn down the Rieshtag again who do we attack next?
Venezuela or Mexico would be my guess....much shorter supply line and they have lots of oil.

Yeah, so what?  You're not making a point.  The hijackers were private citizens of Saudia Arabia who were members of Al-Quaida, which was headquartered in Afghanistan and sheltered by the Taliban government.  So Afghanistan had plenty to do with it.  I am a private citizen of the U.S.  If I of my own volition decided to stage an attack in a foreign country, it wouldn't be the fault of my country of birth.  Like I said, your question is ridiculous.

pahunkboy -> RE: Would Terror attack change your vote? (10/22/2008 5:43:36 AM)

well it would be hard for me to notice a terrorist attack.  not when over 700 billion of MY MONEY has been spent. ....and now the bail outs are every week.

the enemy is from with in.

I dont view McCain or Obama as part of any solution.

So yes- something big will happen.  But it will be as a result of bad governance. and the enemy is our so called "elected" government.    And no it wont change. There is no punishment for the wrong doing.  Just fancy lawyers and golden parachutes.  All at the cost of MY MONEY.

kittinSol -> RE: Would Terror attack change your vote? (10/22/2008 5:43:56 AM)

Can I just say... al-Qaeda, this highly organised terror group, is a bogeyman made-up by Western officials.

Sanity -> RE: Would Terror attack change your vote? (10/22/2008 5:53:37 AM)

Obama and Biden are already talking about invading Pakistan (if they're elected) even without another terrorist attack - so maybe you should consider switching your vote.

PlayfulOne -> RE: Would Terror attack change your vote? (10/22/2008 6:02:32 AM)

Sanity,

And?  Do you not remember the Bush once saying, anywhere the terrorist are?  If you allow the terrorist to operate in your country then your responsible?
Then he got side tracked by starting the silly war in Iraq.

As far Biden's comment.  Do you think it would be a good idea for a country that had its president killed, most of the population doesn't like us, and terrorist residing there, to have nuclear weapons available?

Lies: they never said they'd invade Pakistan. But you know that already. Jeesh, how many more times are you going to try and propagate blatant untruths?

bipolarber -> RE: Would Terror attack change your vote? (10/22/2008 6:10:19 AM)

The republicans have spent hundreds of billions of dollars on "homeland security." In the last seven years, all they have accomplished is doubling the size of the federal government, and creating a "security sheild" indistinguishable from a block of swiss cheese.

IF an attack were to take place in these last two weeks, I would consider it just another failure of their policies, and their governance.

No change...

There was a bit of an oopsy earlier in the McCain campaign which, effectively, said that a terror attack on the US would be good for McCain. An Al-queda website apparently agrees with him.

Would a terror attack on US soil change your vote? Why or why not?

No, I would not change my vote.  A cool head and intelligent action is needed.  We need someone who actually THINKS before they speak and act.

OhDaddyILuvYou -> RE: Would Terror attack change your vote? (10/22/2008 6:14:50 AM)

My prediction

There will be no terror attack.
Terrorists would naturally prefer Obama, and know that an attack might swing votes.

Terror attacks are completely centered upon public reaction, the intent is to cause a public reaction that the terrorists want, not one they wish to avoid.

kittinSol -> RE: Would Terror attack change your vote? (10/22/2008 6:21:23 AM)

Hmmmm... the premise is that a McCain president would give terrorists the opportunity to rip America a new one, because his international policies would be that much more belligerent than Obama's: these people don't want to leave America alone, their intention is to hurt this country. McCain would justify terrorist actions even more - and that's what they want. See?

Sanity -> RE: Would Terror attack change your vote? (10/22/2008 6:30:56 AM)

Oh, I don't know about that. Biden strongly suggested just the other day that there will be a terror attack on the United States if Obama is elected, and that nobody will like the way Obama reacts, but that Obama's supporters will need to stick by Obama anyway, no matter what.

Very strange....

kittinSol -> RE: Would Terror attack change your vote? (10/22/2008 6:34:44 AM)

Biden DID NOT say that: it's getting tiresome, Sanity, how every other post of yours seems to be a blatant piece of misinformation. Very disturbing.

PlayfulOne -> RE: Would Terror attack change your vote? (10/22/2008 6:37:50 AM)

Sanity,

That's not what he said at all,  but you already know that.

Bush already has us making skirmishes into Pakistan without permission of the Pakistani government (which is straining relations)

No, that's pretty much what he said. Read the speech, it was very strange.

No, I'm all ready voting democrat for most but not all positions on the ballot.

I just don't understand why an attack during a Republican administration would help the Republican candidate. That just isn't logical.

And before someone says 'but the Congress is dem' please do note that it is barely dem and that the previous Congress gave the president all this "war power" he could use to prevent or foresee an attack.

But this is the administration that didn't think the report that "Al-queda determined to attack on American soil" was worth much of their time and pulled by on observations of them that had been ongoing under the previous administration.

As a historian I am so saddened when folks just ignore the facts of events even within their lifetimes. I can forgive not knowing what happened in 1900 or 1500 or 500 or 500bce but I can't forgive folks "forgetting" what has happened in just the past few decades. That's being unpatriotic and unamerican and downright dangerous to democracy of any type.

My own personal thought, despite not being American, is that it's the Bush/McCain type of politics that seem determined to enrage other nations to bring about a terror attack in the first place.

Bush had only been in office 8 months on September 11, 2001.  Al Qaida's first attacks occurred during the 90's under Clinton's watch.  So much for your Bush/McCain fault theory.  [8|]

No, it wouldn't change my vote.  Obama would waste time trying to "talk" to people that attacked us.

Under your flow of logic then it was because of Clinton's response that no more attacks happened under his watch if you want to claim that Bush is responsible for no more attacks since.

Both ideas ignore the roots of militant Islam and American policies that have been going on for decades and decades.

It would not change my vote, but Mr Biden's comments of late, that Mr Obama would have his mettle tested within his first 6 months left me a bit chilled.  While the same might happen if McCain gets into office, i have a higher level of confidence in McCain's possible responses.  i don't want to have someone whose approach seems to be --if you need me, call me.--(paraphrased financial bailout response)  to learn how to respond on the job to an attack.

Why would you gave more faith in McCain's responses?  I see him wanting to rush off and start firing before he even knows what happened.  he was to eager to start talking about military needs when the Russians and Georgia were going at it.

BTW did everyone actually pay attention to what Biden said?  He reminded everyone that the first attack on the WTC came shortly after Clinton was first elected.  The second attack came shortly after Bush was elected.  They are expecting something similar after the next president is elected.  What that actually says is they are looking ahead, planning, and prepared.

No my vote will not change.

K

Of course no one pays attention to context that wouldn't help the people all ready in positions of power and authority if folks actually paid attention and thought beyond a few seconds.

Sanity -> RE: Would Terror attack change your vote? (10/22/2008 6:54:24 AM)

President Bush hasn't invaded Pakistan or threatened to invade, like Biden / Obama said they might. But you miss the point... it's a given that the Left considers the President to be a "warmonger" or whatever the latest catch phrase is. Barack Obama is supposed to be a pacifist, isn't he? Or is it okay with you all that he's rattling sabres at places like Iran and Pakistan. If that's just peachy why "change"? Why not just change the Constitution, and give Bush / Cheney four more years?

It doesn't change my vote, but it does make me wonder who both candidates will have in their cabinets upon election.  Who are their advisors now?  Who will they lean on in times of crisis?  All important questions.
