Status: offline 		i did a search, but i couldn't find much information about this subject, and i just wanted to check if anyone has any advice on it..

i am considering getting a copper IUD fitted soon, its a long story, but i want to stay away from hormonal birth control. however, i am concerned about it affecting deep penetrative sex. i don't know if i have an unusual vagina or if i my previous partners have all been unusually long (i suspect not) or if this is just a common sensation, but i have always found deep penetration (ie. hes pushing in all the way, doggy style, or i'm on the bottom with my legs raised high) to cause a dull pain in my uterus. its not something that bothers me, in fact i enjoy it, its often the only way i can enjoy vanilla sex (like, knowing hes so deep it hurts, and that he knows it hurts because i'm practically screaming, but he keeps fucking me anyway.. y'know..)..

so i'm worried about an IUD complicating that experience. i've never been too interested in fisting, (though i wouldn't rule it out in future, i doubt it would ever be a regular activity for me) though i know that could be an issue with an IUD. so my main concern is just with regular deep, rough sex. do you need to be more careful about how far he pushes in? can it be dangerous? would the IUD make it uncomfortable for the man if he pushes deep and hits it or something?

i'm going to talk to a specialist about it in the next couple of weeks, but i wanted to hear about others experiences first, just so i know what can be possible, and if its just actually unsafe, as i suspect most doctors and vanilla people would advise against actively seeking painful penetration in the first place!

that's specifically relating to the Mirena ones but it could give you a place to start when talkign to your doctor

i believe the feeling you're talking about is hitting the cervix. which is quite nice.

I considered a standard iud because hormonal birth control makes me insane (In a bad way), takes away my libido, and does other reeeeeeeeally horrible things to me.  My gyn, who is massively pragmatic, talked me out of it because she said that it will make you bleed very heavily upto a year after insertion whenever you have your period.  She emphasized that she couldn't really overstate the bleeding it caused.  There are other options beside hormonal BC and iud's. 
My ex-'s gf had a hormonal iud (Mirena).  They have the same sort of 'cord' that they leave dangling as the copper/other ones.  Both my ex- and the gf's husband were a bit larger than average and they both said they got poked by the iud cord during sex.  They didn't admit it to her but they both had disturbed lookson their faces when they described it to me.  It's like a 'fishing wire' sort of thing.  I imagine it could abrade your cervical area too with impact.  Fisting, I would think, would be a big risk for hitting it and possibly dislodging it.

thanks for that link. it makes for kind of disturbing reading at first, although its comforting that the pain for males is only because the strings have been cut too short. my doctor runs an all female practice and is very experienced with inserting them, so i hope that pain for my partner won't be a problem.
more worrying is the cramping during and after sex. i had heard about GyneFix, a frameless flexible copper IUD, before, and it seems like it might bypass some complications, so i will talk to my doctor about that.

Status: offline 		Having the IUD shouldn't be a problem for the woman ... but sometimes the guy can experience some discomfort if the threads dont "soften" .... also ... if you have sex with a guy with a piercing you may want to have him be careful ... I have it on good authority from my sister that unexpected IUD removal via the Prince Albert is one of those things that only childbirth could prepare you for.

That said I have had no problems with mine ... other than having some comedien tugg on it once ... but a well aimed pillow to the nose usually ends that particularly comic jape

I have a standard copper IUD, I've had it for over 5 years now.  I have been with guys between 7.5" and 9.5" in length and assorted girth. only once was my partner poked by the string. I went into my gyno and had it trimmed and it never bothered anyone again.

I have never had issues with penetration, and I have been fisted successfully with it in as well with no ill effects at all.

The only bad thing I have had with it is when the string was too long it wrapped around my cervix and caused some discomfort in that area for me but not my partner. 

The only slightly irritating thing I've had with the IUD is after very active sex or deep penetration or rougher sex, i will sometimes have light spotting for a little while after, but not always.

Thing is everyone reacts differently to everything so no one can say for sure what you will experience.

Most of my partners never even knew I had one in to be honest.

Status: offline 		I had an iud for years - didn't hurt going in, didn't hurt while in and didn't hurt coming out. I also didn't bleed incredible amounts of blood! My husband couldn't tell it was in there either.  Of course, he wasn't overly endowed either - lol.

Talk to your ob-gyn doctor. Be very specific about your concerns - ie fisting, deep penetration. If you can't be honest to your doctor, who can you be honest with?
You might consider that there are always horror stories about any medical technology - because if something can go wrong it probably will, but for the most part, horror stories are not common at all.  Best thing you can do is be honest, and go with the advice of your doctor.

Status: offline 		I have a Mirena IUD (4 years) and deeply penetrative sex does cause some minor cramping. The IUD is a red herring though - that cramping comes from having my cervix hit, and not from the IUD as I had that happen before I had the IUD placed.  None of my partners of any appreciable length have gotten poked by it.

Status: offline 		I had an IUD for about 10 years. My ex-husband claimed the string poked him, but my beloved, who is much larger than my ex, never had a problem with it. The IUD is placed high in your uterus and sex will not push it in deeper. However, I actually had to replace the IUD once because it slipped down to my cervix, and its replacement ultimately did the same thing. I use the ring now, partially because it was quite uncomfortable and expensive having the IUDs inserted, and partially because my periods were really heavy with the IUD.

Status: offline 		Interesting how people react to these things differently. Since mine is hormonal, I no longer have a period whatsoever....which is fan-fucking-tastic. The only issue is if I go see a new doctor - I have to qualify my answer to "last menstrual period" because at first, I'd gotten some strange looks from healthcare practitioners when I answered "I have noooooo idea!" 

However, I cannot use birth control that has any form of estrogen near it. I'm seriously allergic to estrogen - migraines, benign tumors, dizziness and a whole host of other crap - and since the Mirena IUD is levongestrel only, I no longer suffer from any of that stuff.

I find it interesting that your iud slipped down - mine did too - twice in fact. I ended up going to another form of birth control because i couldn't keep the little buggers in!  It didn't occur for years though. I still highly recommend them as a form of birth control.

and i understand that they have less problems going in and coming out if you have had a kid or two.

yes, i completely realise that. i've done a large amount of research into it, obviously, i was only asking this particular question here because it wasn't one i could find an answer to on any regular womens health sites, not because i'm unable to use google or look at a diagram. thanks.

However, I *have* read testimonials from women whose strings didn't soften and partners who complain about getting 'jabbed.' And this in addition to all the side effects Mirena can have (seriously, google them... there are SO MANY instances of women suddenly feeling 'crazy' or getting a host of health problems after getting Mirena)... If I had to pick again I'd go w/ the copper one.

thanks for that. when i initially talked to my doctor about this she was very insistent that the mirena was a good choice, that the hormone levels were so low etc. i haven't read all of the negative press about mirena because i already know its not for me - the whole point of an IUD to me is to get off the pill and stay away from hormonal BC. hormones are pretty powerful things, and i would like to keep mine unadulterated as much as possible

Status: offline 		I had 2 IUDs and since I don't have children and I am a bit narrow (according to partners and docs) the fitting and removing hurt like hell, the bleeding was a little bit heavier (and I have heavy periods anyway) but strangely enough actually not more painful, after you had your first period after the fitting, go to your OB Gyn and have the string trimmed. There is no telling how anybody reacts to it, but I can honestly say for me it's the best birth control right after having my tubes tied. I'm quite active and do yoga and martial arts, never had an issue with an IUD, the only problem (and somebody else mentioned that too) after rough sex there can be a bit of spotting.
From what I know, there are several IUDs on the market, some OB Gyns dislike them on principle, others are more open minded, maybe you want to talk to one who favours that method more and compare which size and which kind would be best for you?

so to the people who have them, what is entailed in a fitting? do they make you wait until you're a certain age or have had one kid or anything like that? haha
