MzMia is so happy about the election next week
she is giddy.
There is no way Senator Obama could be elected if he was not supported
by millions of people that are not Black!!!

I am so happy and thrilled with all the non-Black people that have been
foot soldiers and gone above and beyond to support Senator Obama.
I have talked to so many young White students that have given countless
hours to assist in Senator Obama's campaign!!!!

A lot of this racist "chatter" is not bothering me, because if it was not for the
support of White, Asian, Hispanic and people of all races, Barack Obama
would NOT be where he is today!!!!

I think that Blacks compromise about 12% of the American population.

We all know that people of all races are voting for Senator Obama!!!!
I have tears in my eyes when I think of how far we have come in America.
I never thought I would live to see this day!!
Thank you and GOD Bless all the people who are NOT of color that love
and support Senator Obama.
One love!!!!
PEACE and BLESSINGS!!
You ROCK!!!!

Yeah, ok.  All that's true.

However, neither, most likely, would he have been elected without the overwhelming support of Black voters.

So, here's a shout out to US![:)]

I voted for the human being I felt was best for the job. Gender or race played no part in that at all.

It was an easy choice for me.

And that's the only way all of us should vote, no question about it!

Agreed.  And that's what I did.

I find your post itself to be disgustingly racist.

I have to agree. Does it really matter what colour the man is? Surely people should worry about what he stands for and his plans.

You should thank everyone that voted and not bring race into the equation.

Everyone around the world is saying it is a historic occasion.
There are always a few handfuls that don't get it.
Peace

It goes without saying, I thank all the Americans that are ready for a change!!

After reading the thread, it seems to me that you have problem with the people who do "get it".

I voted for the man and not the color, but there was a time in our history when a black man could not even think about voting at all, let alone running for office. There is still way too much racism in this country, and many folks did not vote for him because he is black and for no other reason. This election tells me this country has finally moved beyond that atrocity, and that gives me much hope for our future.

It's hard to not bring race into the equation because it already was in the equation, even if not by those of us posting here. During Barack's speech I kept thinking of Martin Luther King's "I have a dream" speech, and how far this country has come. THAT'S what gives me hope - that a man wasn't eliminated from a chance at the presidency simply because of his race.

I would not vote for a person solely based on skin color, just as I would not vote for a woman solely based on the fact she was a woman (I heard way too many people during Hillary's campaign say "I'm voting for her because it's time we had a woman in office", without even knowing where she stood on the issues). The fact that this country voted beyond skin color / ethnicity, despite others' attempts to thwart it makes me quite happy. Maybe this country is finally growing up.

Mike, in all seriousness, I can't imagine a place I would rather be .. but, Portugal calls and I'll have to content myself with raising a glass in honor of our new President from across the pond.

Aneirin -> RE: Sending love to all the non-Black supporters of Barack Obama!!! (11/5/2008 12:22:31 AM)

The one time Mr Obama, is now the leader of the highest office in the land, a man who offers hope to all light skinned and dark skinned, for he is the ideal on the grounds of ethnicity ;

that of obvious mixed race,

a white mother and black father.

No one is excluded now, Obama is in a position to speak for all.

The fear that was once held that if another ethnicity's residence in a country could become so large as to affect the status quo is now  squashed, for it took people of all races to do what was done last night for the right reasons, the reason of the man being the best person for the job .

RainydayNE -> RE: Sending love to all the non-Black supporters of Barack Obama!!! (11/5/2008 12:40:39 AM)

i don't think there's anything wrong with this thread. during the whole campaign season, all anyone was talking about was "the black vote this," "the latino vote that" and "what about the college-educated whites?"
the media and politicians were DETERMINED to break it down by race-based demographics and americans showed today that that was just now how we were going to do things.
and i think pointing attention to the fact that it WASN'T just black people who voted for barack is important. i keep thinking back to that gathering at grant park.
people DID vote on issues and not just color, and that makes me happy :)

JamieTgPa -> RE: Sending love to all the non-Black supporters of Barack Obama!!! (11/5/2008 12:43:08 AM)

Blacks voted on color  (96%)
Whites voted on issues (60%)

RainydayNE -> RE: Sending love to all the non-Black supporters of Barack Obama!!! (11/5/2008 12:45:24 AM)

generalisations are silly and unnecessary. don't attempt to throw ugliness into the conversation, please.

Me too. The man is either going to be a good President, a bad one or middling one. None of that is dependent on his race but on the person he is.

I find it amazing that people who have complained about racist comments on these fora then turn round and make racist comments themselves. If McCain had won would there have been a thread started saying "Thanks to all the black people who voted for McCain" nope don't think so.

Yes it is an historic event but people should concentrate on the man and not his colour. When that happens it really will be a truly historic moment.
