Lotus, I must say that I am not pleased that you started this thread, but I appreciate that reminder about that episode. I remember it, Beela or something like that was an establishment type and was hunting Loki. His kind, well when Beela was confronted with "You look the same to me" he pointed out that Loki was black on the (left/right) side while he was black on the (right/left) side. Don't remember which. I do, however remember that when they got back to their planet, Sharan, everyone else had killed each other. They were the only two left and then killed each other. So I need no clip.
Actually the only reason that I am not pleased here is because I was about to start a Star Trek thread. I won't let it bother me, because taking the wind out of my sails so to speak will give me more time to think. Of course that might result in a longer OP, at which time you might want to kick yourself. Sorry.
Thing is, Rodenberry had a way of projecting people's traits in general to other, though fictional, species'. Many of the plots of the original series brought up moral issues. In fact this brings up a tertiary point now.
A Black comedian had a joke about Star Trek, he said "If you were Black, and on that show for the first time, you are sure to get your ass killed", and it was true. Whatever Rodenberry's attitude, the casting crew either wanted to evoke sympathy or something like that, or they did not want Blacks on the show. You be the judge, I didn't make those decisions I just watched it.
And when does it end ? NEVER. Color of skin is a matter of looks mainly, but what happens if you look at someone who is ugly or something ? Or overweight, obese in fact. Or hideously deformed. There is no stopping those types of human reactions, all we can do is think past them and use our will of logic. Logic dictates that we know ourselves, and use that knowledge for the betterment of at least ourselves. If not, we might end up just like the planet Sharan.
