Just to twist things Evanesce are supposed to be Christian Rock (according to them! - I'd describe them as fairly boring Emo myself......) but Bring Me To Life is supposed to be all about giving yourself to God (rather than BDSM) - lyrics are like that (vis-a-vis the Suzanne Vega song above), you can often read things into them that simply aren't supposed to be there.

All works of art are interpreted by the viewer/listener be that pop art, pop culture or high art/culture.

I just don't believe they said that. If they did they were wanking someone. They are very goth and dark. Their songs like Going under, My tourniquet, Lithium, Call me when you are Sober, Everybody's fool.. Are not written with god in mind.

I don't think a Christian band would be calling god a tourniquet.

Really? you don't think that Christians are capable of illusion, symbolism and imagery?  I consider that quite close-minded.

Also - if you're going to be taken seriously as a rock/goth outfit these days dark is the only way to walk - the band are competing with the likes of Bullet for my Valentine and other nuGoth / Emo bands - if they want to be taken seriously that's *exactly* how they need to write their lyrics, so they crossover to the non-Christian.  How better to convert someone than to come looking like their friends?

Perhaps being jewish I dont know the ways of the christian bands. I have never been closed minded. Evanescence is a new find for me. I wonder if they are out recruiting for jesus at their concerts? Praising jesus all over the place. I wouldnt known. I have never seen them.

If I was a christian band, I would in praise of god, not be subversive about it, Although being a chrtian who sings goth music and being a christian band are 2 different things.

To be fair I said the comment could be considered close-minded rather than you as a person, but we're in semantics now.

My understanding of their attitude is that everything they do is in praise of their God and that's how we should see it, the rest of the stuff, the type of music and how they promote themselves is pretty much down to the almight dollar I suspect :)

However, they do sound good (some of the time), I'd rather listen to Depeche Mode or Souixsee and the Banshees to be honest

w00t! I <heart> Siouxsie. One of the best shows I've ever been too. Oh, and to keep it on topic, The Creatures' Anima Animus album is pretty kinky in some parts.

I am a big fan of what I would call Monk rock! Similar to enigma(although they are tired). I like a group called Bluestone for scening

Oooo they sound interesting, I like the gregorian thing it's very atmospheric.  Dead Can Dance do some lovely stuff with ancient instruments you might also enjoy if that is the kind of thing you like.

Amythestium is good too. But i also like scening to spiritual tantra music. A group called Rasa is very good for that. I am a massage therapist so I have dual purpose. My Sir loves my ambient music and has copied it to his computer. Oh, there is a group called Inlakesh. they do digeridoo music with rythmic drumming stuff. Iys trance dance music. that does well for BDSM too.  I do love the updated gregorian groove, Ya man.

Since the first time I heard "Music of the Night" from Phantom of the Opera, I have thought of it as a song about D/s.

I have brought you
to the seat of sweet
music's throne . . .
to this kingdom
where all must pay
homage to music . . .
music . . .
You have come here,
for one purpose,
and one alone . . .
Since the moment
I first heard you sing,
I have needed
you with me,
to serve me, to sing,
for my music . . .
my music . . .

Night-time sharpens,
heightens each sensation . . .
Darkness stirs and
wakes imagination . . .
Silently the senses
abandon their defences . . .
Slowly, gently
night unfurls its splendour . . .
Grasp it, sense it -
tremulous and tender . . .
Turn your face away
from the garish light of day,
turn your thoughts away
from cold, unfeeling light -
and listen to
the music of the night . . .
Close your eyes
and surrender to your
darkest dreams!
Purge your thoughts
of the life
you knew before!
Close your eyes,
let your spirit
start to soar!
And you'll live
as you've never
lived before . . .
Softly, deftly,
music shall surround you . . .
Feel it, hear it,
closing in around you . . .
Open up your mind,
let your fantasies unwind,
in this darkness which
you know you cannot fight -
the darkness of
the music of the night . . .
Let your mind
start a journey through a
strange new world!
Leave all thoughts
of the world
you knew before!
Let your soul
Take you where you
long to be !
Only then
can you belong
to me . . .
Floating, falling,
sweet intoxication!
Touch me, trust me
savour each sensation!
Let the dream begin,
let your darker side give in
to the power of the music that I write -
the power of the music of the night . . .

i know this is a old thread, but a lot Lords of Acids songs are BDSM related.

i just added one to my myspace called Slave to Love

You made me your servant
Your submissive slave of love
All dressed up in leather
Anxiously waiting in cuffs
Come on break me
I must worship at your feet
I want you to take me
In our dungeon we will meet

It’s a lusty crime
But it feels devine
Beat me one more time
Nasty shivers run down my spine

Make me crawl on the floor-break me
Make me scream for more-take me
You rule. I adore-use me
Use me, abuse me

Make me sing with pain-break me
Make me go insane-take me
Make me shout your name-use me
Use me, abuse me

You’re my master
I’m submitting all of me
Blindfolded and naked
In my bondage I’m set free
Loving as you bind me
Waiting patiently
Praying that you’ll take me
Into pain and ecstasy

It’s a lusty crime
But it feels devine
Beat me one more time
Nasty shivers run down my spine

Make me crawl on the floor-break me
Make me scream for more-take me
You rule. I adore-use me
Use me-abuse me

Make me sing with pain-break me
Make me go insane-take me
Make me shout your name-use me
Use me-abuse me

"Tough Love" by KISS.

"I tie you to the rings, I feel your fever rise
We love to do the things that others fantasize

And then you smile and bring me to my knees
But when I try a gentle lullabye, I swear I hear you sighing please"
