My friend that I'm starting to get very involved with has a problem with his privates, and I know he does, but he's in complete denial about it. It isn't life threatening but it can be very painful for him (I don't want to go into detail about what he's dealing with) and I want him to see a doctor but he told me "I'll mention it during the next visit" which in guy speak means "I'm in denial and I'm not putting my privates in some doctors cold leathery grasp." If we take our friendship further his problem will become mine because I would be the one causing him a lot of pain.

So the question is. How do you get a stubborn man to see a doctor? I know I can't force him to do anything, and I know I can't nag him either. But is there some sly way of going about it that I don't know about?

As you've already said, you can't force him to go against his will.  However, I can tell you what worked with my Dad, who had severe pain and bleeding from colorectal cancer for approximately two years before He bothered to tell me about any of it and after that it took me another six months to convince Him to see a specialist.  I got fed up with trying to reason with Him, getting angry and pleading, so one day I made the appointment close to His work during His usual lunch time, paid for it up front and told Him to be there.  I think by then He was just fed up with the pain, so He went.

I hope your friend will listen to you and get himself checked out.  Good luck.

Just walk up to him, and tell him that you are concerned about his health, and that you would feel better if he made an appointment to see a doctor about it.  Then tell him that this is the last time you'll bring it up, and stick to it.  Anything else will probably ensure that he won't go.  Use the word 'I' a lot, don't use the word 'you' at all.  Tell him how you feel.  But you're going to have to just let it go - I guarantee nagging will make it worse.  And if you talk to him right he won't feel defensive or anything.

In all seriousness, look him straight in the eye, tell him how much he means to you, how much easier medical things are to deal with early on, remind him of all the people that he matters to, and tell him you will go with him and be so proud of him for taking care of himself. I don't know why but of all the brave and crazy things men do, going to the Dr. seems to be the *one* thing they all hate. Just support him, and make him go, it could be crucial to him.  Good luck.

I'm with the others.  Tell him you are concerned.  Don't want him in pain.
Offer to go with him if he doesn't want to go alone.

Spoken like a woman.

You can't reason with a man about doctors by appealing to his delicate nature. The reason a man will refuse to go to a doctor is he is wanting to deny that he has a delicate nature, or any other human foible or vulnerability. It's not a good reason, merely the one men have.

Make it simple: "Sir, you are going to the doctor. Period. End of Sentence. End of Discussion." Have appointment made and car keys in hand and get him halfway there before he has a chance to think about the option of saying "oh HELL No!"

If he's dumb enough to still put up a fight, tell him he's cut off until he gets a physical. When the big head won't listen, let the little head do your reasoning for you.

Problem with his privates?  Refusal to see a doctor?  Try this:

Fake up a web site describing his symptoms and print it out.   Oh, and the key thing is to list the result as:

The patient delayed seeking medical attention.  As a result, amputation was unavoidable.

ROFLMAO, Strong Spirit!
As I was married for 15 years, I hadone of those male creatures under my care for quite some time (And several others for various lengths of time).  They're strange about their penises.  And, I swear if they had the annual or twice-annual "look-sees" we ladies get to endure, they'd get morepragmatic about it in short order while still hating it.  I don't know what the issue is.
My ex- (Not one here, so no one's likely to walk upto him and say hey, heard this about you) had prostate issues starting in his 20's.  It took a looong time to get him to see a doctor despite frequent urination, painful ejaculation, etc.  I made repetitious suggestions but they're stubborn creatures (As can we females be too); they've gotta do it in their own time.  And, if it's a prostate issue and they're butt-phobic as my ex- was, they'll be 10x's as stubborn.  Now,if it's something that could be communicable to you, that changes things: I'd put my foot down and demand that little "look-see" post haste.

The best way i have ever found to get a man to the doctor was to have something not very serious.
The more serious the issue, the longer it will be before they go, and if they say its nothing  - call  the ambulance - they are getting ready to die - lol.

I thought about the fake website, but maybe I could just insist that when he goes for his annual STD check he talks to the doctor then. It'll all be right there in the open so there wouldn't be any "special" trips to worry about. Maybe I'll go with him since I'm due for mine and I can give him the hairy eyeball if he doesn't mention it .... hmmm.

I did ask this on a sex forum and showed him the answer some men gave who have his same problem. It's an easy fix! I don't think the doctor even has to have his pants down. I mean... my friend, not the doctor. Oh that sounded wrong didn't it.

One would think that if something was wrong with the Unit, then the man would have made it to the doctor, posthaste.  The no sex suggestions would work well, you could always listen to CelticLord and shoot him.  That would get him to the doctor.

If he's willing to go for a physical, but afraid to mention the sexual dysfunction, then you can call up the doctor's office before he goes and tell them about the problem. That way the doctor will already have the info. Or go with him, claiming you need something in that section of town anyway. And when they call him, walk in with him and tell the doctor what's happening.

I am stubborn and then something really weird happened.... I ended up with a woman doctor... She was totaly compleatly different and now I insist on having only woman doctors and I  am allways asked by them why the preference. Since having woman doctors I am compleatly comfortable with being examined / touched because I am not use to having guys look at me.  They tell me whats going on where male doctors tend to give attitude about everything.  When I have a medical complaint they allways look into it non of that oh well... shit that I get from the male doctors.  90%of the time when I go to the doctors before using woman doctors I just plain did not get medical care or was degraded for being there. I have actually hollard at them before...lol
