I was looking at the class list of 2008 on ARC's list, and this was listed, and it's not really all that clear exactly what it is, and what the job requires.

Also What do you need to do to qualify for a job as a activity director in a senior citizen home?

I think personality has a lot to do with that sort of job.  You'd need to be warm, incredibly patient and an excellent communicator - both with individuals and groups.  High energy and friendly also.  Experience perhaps with arts 'n crafts things, exercise classes, volunteering, that sort of thing might help also.

A 'career in the field' refers to the subject in question, whatever that job is.
If you want to be a doctor for example, being a nurse is having a 'career in the field.'
Or it could be a scarecrow.

If you haven't had a job running a leisure group, simply list all the recreational things you enjoy. Emphsise that when you play cards etc you provide scoring pads and chips. If it's bingo, you sent out a newsletter/phoned round to the people attending, that kind of thing. They will want to see that you have tried different activities, organised them, provided kit if needed and perhaps transport or catering. Fortunately, it is a slightly vague field to define and someone who has organised a bowling league for years may have done enough to gain kudos. If this is what they seek, you can always volunteer to do more at your preferred leisure center.

Did you know you can get a degree in recreation and leisure activities?....Activity Directors from what I have read are those responsible for the Bingo, field trips etc. in a nursing home or senior citizens community....at my age you start to think about such things....do I play bingo or chase the women in walkers around the complex?....

And you need to switch medication when you catch them.

Well I do now, but no before yesterday I didn't.

And yeah I know what activity directors generally do, direct and plan and organize activities:) And, as for your game plan, I'd play bingo and then chase all the women make them the prize for having played bingo lol..
