Intelligent and self-aware does not equal kind, honest, or sane.

So how often do those qualities go hand in hand?

I would say that there is absolutely no correlation between intelligence and any of the other traits listed. I'm not sure if self awareness leads to sanity...it might. There also might be a correlation between self awareness and kindness as in if someone is self aware, he or she might be able to feel compassion for someone or something. However, it would also not surprise me if someone like Ted Bundy had a high degree of self awareness.

Stef,

Inconceivable! (No, entirely possible. Which word?)

Axiom: "a statement accepted as true as the basis for argument or inference" (www.m-w.com)

Sane: ok, how about I replace it with "non-deadly"? <g>

Midear Shig-

One would like to think there is some relationship between compassion and intelligence- But the scary truth is that while most of the very intelligent people I know are kind, they might just be faking it.

I think that compassion- true compassion, the understanding of anothers world- is in the best interest of the indiviual.

Stay warm,
Lawrence

That's running a little fast and loose with the secondary definition. It's really more of a postulate than an axiom.

Intelligence has no correlation to kind, never mind the rest of the qualities you listed. However, i have not met anyone who i considered self-aware who was not a giving soul.

How true, Lawrence. Being greedy or cheap is a way of diminishing one's world; it bespeaks a lack of confidence and a needy spirit.

I'd have to insist that intelligence doesn't necessarily mean self-awareness, nor the reverse.

Self aware taken too far becomes self absorbed. At that point negating all of the other positive qualities that may have been just below the surface waiting to blossom.
