I have a good friend that firmly believes that President Elect Obama will not make it to election and most defiantly will not serve out his term. She believes that there are too many Racists, Skin Heads, Nazis, Klan and Aryan Brothers out there that will eventually shoot him. Consider that Obama was the earliest presidential candidate ever to receive Secret Service protection.

I personally hope for the following things:
  1. that he will get the economy back on track
  2. that he will repair our foreign relations, not only with our friends but our enemies
  3. That he will nail Osama Bin Ladin to a tree like they did in the Conan the Barbarian movie
  4. That he will be the first president to be honest with the American people about contact with ET

oh i sure hope your friend is so wrong!

PE Obama must serve his term unharmed!  i did not vote for him, but he is MY President too and i would be so upset if someone were to harm him.

how hateful for anyone to think of such a thing!  i was a little girl but i remember when Dr Martin Luther King was killed and i never want to live through anything like that again.

Obama has the chance to be one of the greatest presidents of all time if not "the" greatest.  Now, with that said, I did not vote for the man, but I wish him godspeed & I hope all the hype that has surrounded him goes away.
He has a very tough job ahead of him...I have no idea which way this is going to go...great, horrible, or absolutely nothing.

He will serve two terms...

He will become known as one of the greatest  American Presidents in history...many years down the road...

He will be divinely...protected, as well as his family!

Hope, and not much else.

I can't rely on the government to save me, I have to do that myself.  If the government would just get the f**k out of the way, I could actually do quite a bit...for me and for others.

We will have at least one domestic terrorist act within six months of his swearing in. Nations that normally endorse and engage in terrorism will become more bold. Israel will be threatened as well and feel the need to respond with greater shows of force.

The economy will continue to weaken. Unemployment will reach an all time high. Every "stimulus" package will cause more economic damage. He will break his campaign promise on lower taxes within two years.

He will not be elected for a second term, assuming he survives his first. The political landscape will take a turn, reversing views once again.

Just curious here, but could you give me one example of how the government is in your way?

What do I expect?  A great lamentation after the crashing sound of reality setting in.

Shit. It's the second time something like this is said on this thread. I won't mention the number of times I've heard this kind of statement on these boards before. It's fucking terrifying that people are able to make these kinds of bland deadpan statements without seemingly batting an eyelid. Sorry if that's not what you were meaning to convey, in which case: next time, make sure you sound a little more concerned at the number of  bastards who might consider assassinating a president. Fuck.

I am sure it is terrifying to those who want to live in la-la land and ignore reality. But you have been warned more than once. Hell, Biden himself warned you from the podium during the campaign. Just because you refuse to listen does not mean it goes away. Obama is probably the most "at risk" president we have ever had, in terms of things like being assassinated and even encouraging other countries to engage in terrorism against us. That is simply a fact. The sooner you accept that and deal with that fact, the less shocking and terrifying it will be when you are reminded of it.

i didn't wanna bring this up, but...has anyone heard if the KKK has made a statement of protest about Obama's being elected? i, for one, hate the KKK and do not subscribe to their beliefs (and i know everyone in America has a right to believe anything they want, whether good or bad...according to the norm).

just an inquiry

There is being cognicent and aware, and there is being callous and offensive. If you think that my refusal to sheepishly accept Obama's assassination as an unavoidable consequence of people's hatred in this country makes me naive, have a good time in your neck of the woods: I wouldn't like to be where you are.

To what end?  If he has not chosen his enemies well, the consequence is inevitable.

Certainly.  Just like people here don't like the government to tell us what is "acceptable" or churches to tell us what is "moral" in terms of sexual behavior, I'm constrained by that last minute addition of the UIGEA the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act snuck in at the last, and late, minute of the SAFE Port Act by that Bush signed in 2006.

Yes, my wife and I are professional gamblers, primarily poker.  And our state government (as well) has decided that people aren't to be trusted, limiting our buy-in to $100 in state-run card rooms.

Do I have another job?  Yes, as a college professor, believe it or not.  30 weeks a year & 15 hours a week, but someone has to do it.

But I'm a Libertarian, not a Liberal.  A motorcycle-riding, leather-wearing, gun-toting, poker-playing, beer-drinking, online-ordained college professor.   Who thinks adults need to be adults, not wards of the State.

-------------
BTW, I hope no harm comes to Obama, even though I voted for the Boston Tea Party (Party Like it's 1773!) because I couldn't stomach either major candidate.  He is going to be the president, for good or ill for our country.  And unlike many others over the past 8 years, that's what I'll respect, even while disagreeing and shaking my head.
