Headaches during orgasm? - 11/12/2008 2:43:31 PM

Status: offline 		I had something happen to me two times in the last week.  The other night, I was having sex, and as I approached orgasm, I got a sudden onset headache.  It hurt so bad, that I collapsed immediately after cumming, (ya gotta have priorities), and became extremely restless.  when I calmed down, I actually had my wife check to make sure that I wasn't experiencing signs of a stroke.

So, today, three days later, I decided to try it alone, to see what would happen.  Again, just as I came, my head was seized by a crushing pain.  I still have a headache, but not as bad.

I did call my doctor, who has not called me back yet, because I am worried enough about this that I felt it was necessary, but I was wondering if anyone else had ever experienced, or heard of, this.

Status: offline 		This EXACT thing happened to me a few months ago. I was worried and embarassed and it took a few weeks for it to go away. My doctor sent me for a CTScan just to rule out anything serious. What it ended up being though, was that I had strained something in my neck/shoulders. The reason it hurt worse when I orgasmed was because the muscles tense up, and because my muscles were already strained, additional tension sent me into sheer pain (and NOT the good kind ;) ). The doctor put me on strong pain medication which barely touched it. The necessary treatment - a few visits to the chiropractor. Don't worry though, my chiropractor said its relatively common. The doctor looked at me like I was about to drop dead. Doctor probably still a good idea, but I would DEFINITELY set yourself an appointment with a chiropractor, and a massage therapist if you can afford to do so.

Hope it helps allay any worries but as always get your Dr to check if it persists.

Status: offline 		There are various reasons for the condition but you must seek medical advice.  You are male, but when this occured to me, it was the Pill I was on that was doing it.  That isn;t going to assist you much, but others reading this thread might want to take that into consideration for them.

Status: offline 		I am prone to complicated migraines.  I get both kinds of sex headaches on occassion.  Since it is the first time it has happened, I would see a doctor to rule out any serious issue, as others have suggested.  If it is happening every time, I would tend to be more concerned.  Once is enough, however.  You may want to consider your overall health and any pre existing conditions that may be feeding into this.  I have several that can cause this at any given time.  Good luck and see your doctor!

Status: offline 		definitely get to the doc, if only to rule out the serious stuff that could cause these headaches like blood pressure.  hopefully they find nothing and it's simply a matter of getting some things adjusted at the chiro.  let us know what you find out.  i'll be sending good thoughts your way.

Status: offline 		I know I get headaches at that time because I forget to breath. It's a long shot but are you making sure you keep breathing well throughout the duration?

All my muscles constrict, added with the lack of oxygen and increased blood pressure that equals a heck of a headache.

This can be something bad (about 5-15% of the time it's due to an aneurism), so there will probably be a CAT scan in your future.  I've had this happen twice and each time ended up getting tested.

There are some simple medications you may need to take for a month or so that can stop these headaches (indomethacin or a calcium channel blocker).

Status: offline 		Good news, good news.  I saw my doctor today, who of course, sent me for a head CT.  Other then the fact that there is LOTS of air where a brain should be, there is no bleeding.  YAY!!!

Now I have a chiropractor appointment at 6, and we'll see if that helps.
