Obviously the term was used when the site began as a US based site, without realizing that there would be people from other nations here. Why don't you report the glitch and suggest they update ethnic background selections?

Ya...I hijacked the tread...I know

Remember it is just a few saying they don't like it...I say call people what you want... but say it with respect and mean it with respect, even if that particular person does not deserve it...if they don't like it... it's their problem.

Yeah the option to select "human" would be sweet.  I long for the day :)  In fact, it would be awesome if that was the ONLY choice.  We're all human, after all, all descended from the same ancestors.  We're all distant cousins (or closer).

I've never quite figured this site out.  This software seems like a dinosaur to me, being a member of several forums that are 5 or more years ahead of this in terms of software.  If you can let me know how to report a glitch, I'll give it a shot.  Sounds like some people in this thread like it the way it is, though.  Just strikes me as weird that if you're a black person living in the US, you choose "USA" as your country and "African American" as your ethnicity, even if you're 0% American and may not consider yourself African either.

Maybe there should just be a bunch of colours to select from, and you pick the one closest to your skin tone.  Or it asks you if your hair is frizzy, curly, wavy, in ringlets, or straight.  And so on.

Kidding, that would be ridiculous.  :p

seriously.

the reason i rattle off a "laundry list"  of various ethnicities that make up who i am is because they DO make up who i am. they DO matter. when i was little, we'd go to family reunions and there would be WHITE PEOPLE there. and being a little brown kid i was absolutely puzzled by that.
those people were my family, no matter how distant.
i may be brown, but that is not all that i am. and i don't see what is so wrong in acknowledging all those other things.

i'm a brown skinned human being, period.

But then that would require too many drop down menus or, actually having a fill in box. Not really something I've noticed or cared about, some people are just nit picky. Why on the lovely "fetlife suggestions" group people want a goddamn drop box for EVERYTHING because they're so picky about lables.

And I am truly glad they have found a place to do it in
