Elegant -> TODAY..NOW..VOTE 'NO' (12/22/2005 12:25:51 PM)

This week Advertising Age is running an online poll asking, "Should marketers bow to pressure from groups like the American Family Association?" said no.

Please go online and register your vote at http://www.adage.com/poll.cms and pass this email along to others.

It is vital that America's corporate leaders understand that a majority of Americans do not share the extreme views of the AFA or like-minded organizations. The poll will run until 4PM on Thursday, December 22nd. THAT IS TODAY

This past year saw an unprecedented number of attacks by the American Family Association against corporations that support the gay and lesbian community. Companies that are targeted can experience weeks or months of sustained phone calls, emails and
letters. Some even face boycotts. Many corporations standing tall but the pressure exerted by the extreme right is immense. When you notice corporate support of the gay community, be sure to register your approval with a phone call or email. We cannot let the radical right be the only voice that corporate America hears.

i'm a bit confused on this subject. just what is The American Family Association and what are they trying to do?

MasterBenedict -> RE: TODAY..NOW..VOTE 'NO' (12/22/2005 3:12:09 PM)

It's a (very right-wing) organization for the preservation of ~~1950's era ideals

The American Family Association is a right wing christian group that threatens boycotts of hotel chains and such that rent their facilities to alternative lifestyle events such as Beat Me in St Louis, Living in Leather, or any event that has BDSM education classes.

All you need to do to see the rampant homophobic attitude is go read some of their stuff, google them up and see what kind of stuff they do.

i just read various things on their site and, needless to say, i am in awe at the arrogance and ignorance of this organization.

Concidering a ban on Ford Motor Co
being upset about Methodist for supporting gays and same-sex marriages
raising a fuss over the broadcasting of "Saving Private Ryan" on TV and the decision of the FCC deaming the content not inappropriate for public viewing (I have GOT to see that movie now)

and people wonder why i don't like religion...go figure, huh?

Gotta admit it's a scary movie. For anyone who has been under fire, the first few minutes are a white-knuckle experience. I don't know where they got the sound of bullets punching through metal, but they had it so right on the money, I was on the edge of a flashback. I've never heard exactly that sound in a movie before.

Just thank god you can't smell combat.

Several people on an earlier thread in another forum said they like the smell of gasoline.........I hate that fuckin' smell.

The smell of combat is much more complex and disturbing, a combination of sewer, slaugherhouse, firing range with the added tang that comes from the breath and skin of terrified people. I'll take gasoline anytime over that.

There is, of course, the movie line "I love the smell of napahm in the morning.' This does have a certain resonance. Since we were the only ones using napahm and the most desperate actions were fough at night, smelling it in the morning conveys the dual concept "I'm alive" and "We won."
