SirRiker -> Ben-gay Enema's (12/22/2005 4:16:46 PM)

My girlfriend was talking to a Dom and he mentioned Ben-gay Enema...I was wondering if that cream is dangerous to use in the ass or not? If anyone has any information then please let me know...thanks.

petwolf22 -> RE: Ben-gay Enema's (12/22/2005 4:23:52 PM)

certainly doesn't sound comfortable!

FelinePersuasion -> RE: Ben-gay Enema's (12/22/2005 9:30:20 PM)

It says not to use on mucus membrains and the inside of the ass is one big mucus membrain, as well as absorbing anything going into the ass into the bloodstream Not to mention the menthalatum creates a burning sensation and if it started burning her in non erotic ways but in panic help me oh fuck ways you won't be able to get it off.

*slips in with a quick joke*

What's the name of George Straight's cousin?

Ben Gay

LOL

*runs out before the audience throws food*

OWWWW, medications that are made for outside the body are done so for a reason, hence the warning "do not ingest" which means not from either end.

IrishMist -> RE: Ben-gay Enema's (12/26/2005 8:12:16 AM)

Ummm ouch? Can we say emergency rush to the hospital?

I would be extremely wary of ANYONE who suggested such a thing.

tasha_tart -> RE: Ben-gay Enema's (12/27/2005 11:44:10 AM)

Some years ago, I used a similar product (as directed) and did not wash my hands sufficiently afterward. Contact with my penis shortly afterward hurt like hell.

I can't even conceive of any way this could be safe used anally.

Aside from that, it would likely immortalize one in whatever ER he or she ended up in.

I am sure there is some that would enjoy the pain from that.

yes, but I would be more concerned with the safety side. Ben Gay is for 'external use only', and there is a reason why. To have it used for 'internal use', even in the concept of an enema is highly dangerous health wise.

fastlane -> RE: Ben-gay Enema's (12/27/2005 12:02:34 PM)

A locker room joke was Ben Gay in the jock....problem is....it wasn't funny then and still isn't now. ..... "No", it is dangerous and stupid!

stef -> RE: Ben-gay Enema's (12/27/2005 12:57:39 PM)

Oh no! The sky is falling! The sky is falling!

The reason that Bengay's (or Icy Hot, Tiger Balm, Flex-All or any other topical pain relief concoction) packaging says "avoid contact with eyes or mucous membranes" is legal liability. They don't want to get sued because someone with a sore thigh inadvertently gets a little of it in a place where it causes "discomfort" and calls the company in a huff. Instead, they can say "We told you not to use it there, dummy! Didn't you read the packaging?"

One person's unwanted side-effect is another person's goal. For some of us, the effect achieved when the substance contacts mucous membranes is what pharmaceutical companies refer to as an "off label use". I wouldn't necessarily pump a whole tube of it up someone's keister (well, maybe for a couple of people here I would consider doing that) but a little dollop on the genitals or on a plug isn't going to kill anyone. BTDT,LTTAI.

Ignorance is far more dangerous than Bengay ever will be.

fastlane -> RE: Ben-gay Enema's (12/27/2005 2:58:19 PM)

I agree stef! good point.

Fastlane scratches his head and asks....Is Ben Gay?

OMG!

HouseofBear -> RE: Ben-gay Enema's (12/27/2005 6:18:21 PM)

Knowing its effects, there is no way we would use it on anyone anally. Our viewpoint to do with as you wish, lol.

fastlane -> RE: Ben-gay Enema's (12/27/2005 8:31:34 PM)

CNN just reported...BEN IS NOT...GAY

But William Bush is?

NickInSLC -> RE: Ben-gay Enema's (12/27/2005 10:47:02 PM)

Having been on the recieving end of Icy Hot used anally, I can tell you that it's not going to cause significant damage to a person who doesn't have an allergic reaction to it.

On the other hand... It's a somewhat intense sensation. Not everybody enjoys it. Should you elect to inflict this treatment on somebody, you should experience it for yourself first.

But for hell's sake, don't actually enema somebody with any heating cream. I feel sorry for anybody who has the poor judgement to play with this "Dom" friend of your girlfriend. Use a tiny dab on your finger. Like I said, try it out yourself before you do it to your girlfriend. Also, there's not really any reason to use it inside the anus, as there are no nerve endings inside that are receptive to it. The only benefit to using it inside is to prolong the sensation as it leaks out. And if you do try it, and it's not having the effect you'd like, try blowing on it. The rush of air instantly changes it from a burning sensation to a nice chill.

Now, having given you all the warnings I can think of, it's only appropriate to inform you that I do keep a tube of Icy Hot in my own toybag.

P.S. Soap and water is the most effective way to kill the sensation.

ToServeIsToLive -> RE: Ben-gay Enema's (12/27/2005 11:19:18 PM)

i've heard of bengay used on a dildo before (and there was no mention of an emergency room visit but then again it was off the internet so who knows)... but to give a whole enema of it seems a little too extreme.

MadameDahlia -> RE: Ben-gay Enema's (12/28/2005 4:25:23 AM)

First off, people are allergic to all sorts of things. Test any new substance on a patch of skin - and not a super sensitive patch of skin. Don't test out something new on the genitals unless you're sure you know how it will work, feel and affect your partner. Using a test patch does not mean you apply something, wait two seconds and then continue forward boldly. Wait a while. Make sure the area doesn't turn red... blotchy... irritated.

Now addressing the OP's concerns:

Keep in mind that anything administered in an enema form will enter the bloodstream to a certain degree. (Which is why a small Gatorade enema can liven up tired submissive... and why an alcoholic enema can not only make a person drunk, but also kill them via alcohol poisoning). Also keep in mind that the human body can feasibly overdose on any substance (water, salt, oxygen, alcohol, etc.).

The colon extends from the cecum up the right side of the abdomen, across the upper abdomen, and then down the left side of the abdomen, finally connecting to the rectum. The colon has three parts: the ascending colon and transverse colon, which absorb fluids and salts, and the descending colon, which holds the resulting waste.

Ben Gay has three active ingredients:

Methyl Salicylate 30% -- Methyl Salicylate is also referred to as "oil of wintergreen" -- The blood level of salicylates determines the outcome. Recovery from a salicylate poisoning is likely if the acidic effect of the salicylate can be effectively neutralized. Methyl salicylate (oil of wintergreen) is the most toxic form of the salicylates. Doses of less than 1 teaspoonful have been lethal in small children. - http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/002683.htm

Menthol 10% -- Menthol -- The extent of toxicity (in case of an overdose) depends on the amount of exposure and time to treatment. Survival past 48 hours is usually a good sign that recovery will occur. -- http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/002673.htm

Camphor 4% -- Camphor -- More on Camphor can be found here -- http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/002566.htm

Enema bags come in many sizes. A quick search found sites offering enema bags that could hold four quarts. One quart is about 191 teaspoons. While I highly doubt anyone would administer a four quart Ben Gay enema I have also seen three ounce rectal bulbs for sale (which are sometimes used as "quickies" for cleaning purposes prior to anal sex). Three ounces isn't a large amount of liquid. However, three ounces is almost 18 teaspoons.

Methyl Salicylate is listed as being only 30% of Ben Gay's make up -- 30% of 18 teaspoons is 5.4 teaspoons -- 5.4 teaspoons is quite a bit higher than that "less than one percent" mentioned above.

The website doesn't elaborate on just how small the unmentionables are. It doesn't give an age - and it doesn't tell the reader how much of this would be required to poison a human being. I haven't mentioned just how much is absorbed by the colon. I haven't contacted anyone in the medical field personally - over the phone or through emails. All of the information here has been gathered from the internet, from what I should hope is a reputable source.

Plenty of BDSM activities carry some degree of risk. Be aware of the risks you take during any sort of scene or play. Be prepared to handle consequences. Have readily available transport to a medical facility should something arise that cannot be handled by yourself. Research something if you're unsure of it. Talk to someone you KNOW to be a doctor - not just someone who says they practice medicine. See a specialist about the area to be affected if possible. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Be more afraid of hearing condolence after condolence at a funeral.
