I didn’t get to see it, but read with great interest that Ricky “The Hitman” Hatton WON the fight against Paulie Malignaggi
Was there anyone here who actually saw the fight??

*laughing*
Maybe a better question would be … is there anyone else “besides me” that is remotely interested???

According to the LA Times
Hatton threw 516 punches, to 342 by Malignaggi. He also landed 99 of 377 power punches to Malignaggi's 25 of 133.

The fight was apparently stopped in the 11th round and there are now a lot of people saying it shouldn’t have been.

I’ve been a fan of Ricky Hatton’s since first I heard of him, and I absolutely LOVE his style of “keep moving forward, keep on punching”
But can’t help wondering if his sizable fan following .. with all their singing and band playing, isn’t actually a bit dauntingly overwhelming, or at least unfairly distracting, to his opponents.

Does anyone here think that he shouldn’t be allowed to have his own personal band playing during the fight???

I Absolutely HATED Hatton’s fight against Floyd (insert colorful bad language here) Mayweather … but find it really interesting that Now, Mayeather’s father is helping to train Hatton.

Anyone else looking forward to a match between Ricky “The Hitman” Hatton and Oscar De La Hoya???

There was another short thread about last weekends fight. Hatton needs to get his act together if he is going to try and go up a weight again. I really hope he doesnt try. I dont think he would beat De la Hoya or Mayweather. Its interesting about Mayweathers father training hatton, especially as Floyd is reputed to be in training again. Much depends on De La Hoyas fight against Manny Pacquiao next month. I assume Hatton will probably fight the winner.

i love boxing.  but i think hatton would get destroyed by a bigger stronger delahoya.

Ahhhhhh ... My apologies to all,
I did look a couple pages back and didn’t see anything,
... guess I should have gone back a bit further.
Truthfully, I was shocked that I would be the “first” person to mention the fight.

I think that Ricky's an amazing fighter ... and not that I really know anything about any of it ... but just my opinion from what I read and have seen ... I wish he'd take his own boxing more seriously.

I do wonder what others think about him having his own band playing the entire time the fight is going.
I think if I were Hatton's opponent ... I'd be launchng a complaint.

as far as Mayweather Sr. training Hatton .. I think it's a pretty well known fact that he and his son don't have a good relationship.
But for him to be helping train Hatton seems overboard to me.

as far as De La Hoya's fight against Manny Pacquiao, my money's on De La Hoya
And Rachel ... as much as I am a Hatton fan ... I think you might be right about the outcome of a Hatton vs De La Hoya fight.

But I'd still Really Like To See It!!

hey, delahoya is old now... if he doesnt prep well, pacman hits hard with both hands... so does hatton.  and we have seen boxers get old...

I saw it, Osocurious. It wasn't a contest. The other lad bottled it completely. There aren't many fights at that level where one of the fighters wins every round bar one.

There is no one to touch Hatton at his natural weight - junior welterweight. He will never get beat at that weight.

I would like to see him fight Mayweather again because I feel he has some unfinished business. Hatton stepped up a weight, and an extra 7 pounds is everything in boxing. Mayweather is a far bigger man, and Hatton's game is all about bullying his opponent and getting right in his face - you just can't do that against a bigger man. Except he did - he pushed Mayweather back, but the referee Cortez kept pulling them apart and didn't allow Ricky to fight his game. The feeling over here is that the booing of the US national anthem pissed off Cortez and he had his spot of pay back by not letting Ricky do what he does best. There wasn't much in it until Ricky had a point deducted and that is to his credit considering he had stepped up to fight at the other lad's weight. The other thing is that when you've fought at 140 pretty much all of your life and you step up to 147, it's like being hit with a sledge hammer because you've never tasted it before.

I would have Mayweather down as favourite, but with a different referee letting him fight his game, you just never know.

De la Hoya is far too big for Ricky, but Ricky would fight him as he's a game fucker who would get in the ring with Tyson in his prime.

LaTigresse -> RE: Ricky “The Hitman” Hatton (11/25/2008 2:33:46 PM)

Mayweather is damned near unbeatable right now. DeLaHoya is old and done. But, Manny has also seen better days. Which is why I think De La Hoya took the fight.

I don't expect to see De La Hoya take on Mayweather anytime soon.[:D]

mayweather would crush delahoya like an empty soda can.
