i found this today by providence while looking up a medication:

http://www.aegis.com/factshts/network/access/drugs/cypr.html

"Periactin is an antihistamine that comes in syrup and pill form. Periactin also has sedative effects and calcium-channel blocking activity. Periactin is used to treat some hormonal disorders, including inhibited orgasm that may be a side effect of taking antidepressants."

i thought of you straight off when i read that. might be worth asking your doctor about. it says to avoid alcohol while on the medication and consult your doctor about possible drug interactions if you're already taking sedatives or tranquilizers (always a good idea anyway).

i wish you well with it.

Thanks! i'll definetely bring that up to my doc on my next appt.
Thank you also to those who had suggestions including F&F, whose suggestions i appreciated, though i was looking for suggestions that didn't include stopping meds as that is not an option for me at this time. i will bring up the last posters idea as well as the wellbutrin suggestions. i'm on Lexapro because it not only deals with depression but also anxiety and if Wellbutrin can handle the same things then it's definetely an option to try.
Thanks everyone.

Wellbutrin is an interesting medication. After all, it's an antihistamine. Just as viagra had a boner side effect for males with heart problems and poor circulation, wellbutrin has a calming side effect. Because of this side effect, wellbutrin has commonly been used to help people quit smoking and manage stress/depression.

Because it's an antihistamine, it has little of any unwanted side effect. The most complaints that I've heard from those I know who take wellbutrin are having a dry nose, a tingleing feeling through out there hands and body, and some feel a little drowzy. That's the worse I've heard from personl inquiries.

Considering i have allergies and trouble sleeping, i use meds for the allergies as well as local bee pollen and try relaxing techniques for sleep, i have no problems with those side effects. i prefer to take most meds at bedtime anyway since that's the easiest time for me to remember them.
Thanks again F&F.

i hope your doctor's appt. helps using the suggestions. i did think it interesting that the one antihistamine is used for problems with having orgasms. i wonder if used alone it would induce them?

anyway, i wish you luck with whatever you end up on. there are usually second opinions as to medications and doctors.
