Reducing my stress...that sounds so easy.  If I could win the lotto and pay someone to oust my "someday to be ex husband".  Life would be grand....and I could get a weave.[sm=skiprope.gif]

Lockit -> RE: Hair !!! (12/3/2008 8:27:23 PM)

LOL... Losing a spouse is often good for the hair and cures some migraines.  Hang in there!

Thank you, I have heard favourable reports about Ouidad products and know they are pricey, but as I have heard, they are very good for nightmare hair. To note, when I dry my hair, I let it air dry.

To be honest with this long hair thing, it is a complete pain in the ass, and I would cut back to boring, except I have a thing about hair and love it, that is seeing it and with me, someone feeling it or pulling it.

I used to in the past have waist length hair, it was a mess then, so nothing has changed, but at least then it was kept away by use of two plaited bits at the front, bobbled at the back.

Lynnxz -> RE: Hair !!! (12/3/2008 9:15:09 PM)

Frizease stuff, don't put it in your palms, just a little on your fingers, rub them together and run them through your hair, avoiding your scalp so it doesn't look oily.

When I want my hair curly, I wash it, put friz ease, a light leave in conditione, and this stuff called curl scrunching hair gel, (it's a spray so it doesn't goop up my hair as much) and scrunch it all up. Then i put it all up in a bun and leave it for the night.

Curls are a mess... I flat iron the shit out of my poor hair.

Since hair is the topic, any help on anything you can use or do when you lose hair alot?

Up your vitamin e intake and see a doctor would be my suggestion.

winterlight -> RE: Hair !!! (12/3/2008 11:35:26 PM)

I use half vinegar half water after i shampoo my hair for rinsing.  one thing to know always use a wide comb and start combing from the ends first. work your way up 1/2 an inch at a time. That helps with the tangles.

Are you wanting to straighten your hair? Get one of those hair straightening systems by Conair. I have one and it works for me.
I have wavy hair but not like what you have.

my comment is for general hair care...

Hello Aneirin,

I found a site that should be of help to you that recommends jojoba and shea butter.  Chemical processing or straightening it with heat and flat irons will only damage it.

http://www.treasuredlocks.com/blhacafa.html

You are dealing with the cold of winter combined with indoor heating drying out your skin and hair along with the rain/mist/fog in the UK which can make curly/kinky hair snap and curl into a bird's nest.

"SnipTIP! If your hair feels drier during the winter, try pre-shampoo hot oil treatments with lighter oils like Safflower, Cocoa Seed Butter, Avocado, Shea Butter, Vitamin E, Jojoba Seed, Calendula, Jasmine, Carrot Oil, Rosa Canina, Clover, Sandalwood, and Alba Root."

*Wait a minute, I can help with this!*   [sm=cheerleader.gif]

My hair is curly, and tangles just for fun.    What I generally use is Biolage shampoo (than conditioner, if you can afford that step), than Biolage detangler.   For maintenance between washes that keeps it manageable (and pretty), I use this product called "Shine", a serum (Frizz Ease products), which you can find at Target for about $5.00.   You only use a couple of drops, and this thing has been a lifesaver for resolving my hair issues, when I get into hot situations, and hair goes all wrong.  [;)]  M

DesFIP -> RE: Hair !!! (12/4/2008 4:00:19 AM)

If you're willing to spend the money you can get your hair straightened chemically. That should last between 3 and 6 months depending. It won't make it perfectly straight but it will be a lot more manageable. Otherwise you either tie it back in a wild pony tail or use flat irons.

Flat irons come in different price ranges. You want the one that the salons use, costs over $100 dollars but it works far superior to the drugstore $20 ones. The salon should either be able to sell you one or tell you where to buy it.

MadameMarque -> RE: Hair !!! (12/4/2008 4:00:53 AM)

Several practices mentioned involve pH balance - of the hair, the scalp, and your hair products.

For example, the higher the pH balance of a shampoo is, above the natural level of you scalp, the more detergent it is.  The more detergent it is, the more likely it is to make your scalp compensate by producing more oil.  Conditioner that's too low in pH, is likely to be heavy.  Apple cider vinegar has about the same pH balance as is healthy to your scalp - you may have heard of the acid mantle, on your hair and skin.  If you use products that have been properly pH balanced, and/or if you restore the acid mantle right away, with a diluted apple cider vinegar (not white vinegar) rinse, it has a good effect on your scalp and hair.

Some people maintain that it doesn't matter whether you strip the acid mantle, when you wash your hair or skin, because within minutes, your body's restoring it.  But it has definitely been my experience that the long term effects are different, between using well-pH balanced products and using those that are not.

Ok, in desperation I ask here, wavy curly hair, how the hell does one keep it under control ?

I'm a pro *sigh*. Check out www.naturallycurly.com.

Although it's a site orientated towards the needs of diva chicks, you'll find it a wonderful source of inspiration for taking care of your unruly locks.

HalfShyHalfWild -> RE: Hair !!! (12/4/2008 5:12:34 AM)

I have very long, wild, wavy hair. I use Biosilk's oil, which helps a lot. I also do a conditioning rinse every day and use shampoo only about two or three times a week. That has helped my hair more than anything else. It's much softer, more manageable and the Biosilk cuts out any frizzies that want to appear.

edited for major typos.

angelikaJ -> RE: Hair !!! (12/4/2008 5:26:54 AM)

If your hair does not get oily... how about using a bit of conditioner on it and rinsing well in between washes?

Generally that is what I do.. wash and condition and then the next time just condition.

I can empathise... I swear I have little elves or brownies that come in sometimes and knit sweaters while I am sleeping.

LumusandtheLady -> RE: Hair !!! (12/4/2008 5:27:47 AM)

[:D]  Aneirin, thanks for starting this thread! I have the same problem only my hair is to my bum. I'm going in for a trim in the next few days to get the split ends off and too see about getting it evened out.

I use diluted organic apple cider vinegar occasionally and for a good deep conditioner (chemical free) eggs or mayonnaise works good. For myself, I've just been pulling my hair back in a braid on most days or up in a bun which wouldn't work for you. I've also had the "ick" results with the Frizz-Ease products no matter how little I used.

There has been some great info here - thanks everyone!

calamitysandra -> RE: Hair !!! (12/4/2008 5:48:35 AM)

What time between washes are we talking?

Pull your hair into a braid at night, don't make it too tight if a receding hairline bothers you. High threadcount pillows also help.
Products that work vary from person to person, I use Freeman Papaya High Tide Volume shampoo and conditioner and it works great.
There are things as the no shampoo, or conditioner only routine, which are reported to work good with curly hair.
There is a longhair community on livejournal as well.

Other than that, it is just test and try and find out what is best for your case. Good luck.

manxcat -> RE: Hair !!! (12/4/2008 5:50:13 AM)

My hair was straight until i hit menopause, when it began to curl.  I loved it. Until the care part came along.  Yes, curly hair is more fragile than straight hair.  I no longer use a comb or a brush.  In the shower, when i have conditioner on, i use my fingers to detangle - amazing how much comes out, but am saving it for raku pottery firing - and when out of the shower, wrap it in a towel until it is dry enough  not to soak my clothes and air dry.  Rubbing it dry re-tangles and hurts it.  Beyond the Zone has some good products, and even tho the leave in Noodle Head conditioner says kick up your curls, it tames the frizzies.  There used to be some excellent products, but since they worked so well, they took them off the market.  You can use a heavier condition on the lower parts, to help control it and weight it down some, and a lighter one closer to the scalp.  Please, DO NOT cut your hair.  As  child of the 60's i love a man with long hair, and despite your troubles with it, i find yours verry attractive. ;;-))  And curls!!  Am
(im)patiently awaiting those erotic pics you have been talking about.  The long hair will make them all the better.  ;;-))
