Steel did a great job of discussing this. If she is newly diagnosed, her sugars may not be very stable, and she may not "know" when she is headed low (the more dangerous immediate issue. Going "high" does long term damage to blood vessels in eyes and kidneys, etc., but going low can leave her in a coma). So I would only add that the first couple times you play, you may want to actually test DURING play at some point, just to see where the sugars are and gauge whether the stress of it is taking the sugars up or down. Stress does different things to different people...but insulin is a hormone, so everything we do probably impacts that as well. It might also be wise to have cake gel (the kind you write on top of a cake with) on hand in your emergency kit...if she passes out and cannot suck on a mint, you can squirt it into her mouth. Glad to see that you are not letting the diagnosis change her life too much. It doesn't have to, as long as you take precautions. Good luck to you both!
