DesFIP -> RE: Is cheekiness ever acceptable (12/6/2008 9:53:01 AM)

I'm 53 and he loves it. When appropriate. It is not appropriate to be bratty first thing in the morning when he's a walking zombie until he's had tea, usually two cups. It's not appropriate to be bratty when he's stressed or feeling down. But when he's in a good mood, relaxed, then he is more receptive to playful, bratty behavior. As far as verbal, word play? Here that's almost always a yes. But I'm from NYC and a dry, sarcastic, wit is SOP. If you can't handle that, don't get involved with a New Yorker. Some people like tossing quips back and forth, some don't. Find someone compatible and have enough social skills to know when such behavior is and isn't appropriate. Just like it might be appropriate to act this way with a coworker on a coffee break, but not with the CEO during a review.
