mom started and finished menopause before she turned 50

she makes me feel like something's wrong with me cause i may still have a cycle once a year or so

i know i am ok though, probably most likely peri

every woman's body is different and nobody knows thier body like they do

be educated and be your own health care advocate

(had heavy periods years ago, yuck
also had migraines from hell, yuck
drank coffee for that and took a nap in dark cool room, had to call in sick many times, almost lost job)

It's not all about being money-hungry.  (Some, but not all, lol) One, doctors will order a lot of tests to cover their butts in case they get sued.  If that one-in-a-million medical oddity happens and they miss it, they're screwed, so they try to cover everything.  Two, the reimbursement they get, especially from their HMO contracts, sometimes barely cover their malpractice insurance premiums.  What they bill out isn't near what they get paid by the insurance companies.

And yes, I know there are a lot of uninsured people missing out on medical care....but that was another thread we had recently.

I got the full female checkup in may to include mamo and a sonogram on my uterous and ovaries.   Not only was mu hormones low, but there was very little in the way of eggs. My dr says a woman is born with a certain amout of eggs, when those run out, menopause. He advised that I was indeed in memopause.
My more noticable and uncomfortable system has been my internal heater. I feel like I am burning up from the inside out, exersion, even as as small as walking into the kitchen and back with have me burning up.  I was going to try and avoid hrt but even with that the boiler inside is working overtime.

I was in peri for abaout 8 years and I can tell you, that heater tripled or more since official menopause.

peri started when I was around 41 and full hit at 49.  Im hoping my body temp will settle down but it hasnt slowed a bit even with hrt.   I dont seem to get the headaches.  Mu bitchiness is somewhat controled by my mental health drugs.

All I know its not fun, as much as I looked forward to having no more useless periods, the heating problem is horrible.

I never heard of the procedure the OP mentioned. Sounds more like what happened to my sister, she stopped having periods but her hormones indicated she wasnt in memo but that her linings had stacked up. Was giving medication to sluff of the backed up linings and she is back on track.

I would certainly opt for a second opinion.

I'd probably get a second opinion and do some research on your own.

My sister was finished menopause before she hit 45, my other sister started menopause at about 42. My sister that is almost 50 is still having completely normal periods.

My mom after spending 2 years almost bleeding to death finally had to have a hysterectomy at 53. She had menopausal symptoms for 5 years but her periods just kept getting longer and longer in  duration till she only stopped bleeding for a day or two at a time. She went through 2 transfusions before she agreed to the hysterectomy.

Basically what I am saying is there is no "exact" time for menopause and no exact symptoms. I think if I was 60 and still menstral then I might investigate deeper, but if your yearly exams are still all normal I probably wouldn't be overtly concerned just really annoyed

A question related to all of this... I am 53 and at least peri menopausal, I haven't had a period since April/May o8, Thinking I am pretty much done, but never say never... ANYWAY, I am one of the truly lucky ones, No real hot flashes, some generalized warming but I suffered since childhood with being frozen so it's lovely, not much decrease in sex drive, and that is my point, Is this possible? That My sex drive will be as high and higher? OH YEAH one bad thing... I am hairier! LOL

I was 58 when my periods ended.  My sex drive has continually improved, but i attribute that to increased interest in this lifestyle.  As for the hair thing--i have less on my legs and more on my chin now. [:)]

Yeah I am thinking the same thing. I have a dom who can push every button I own and does it effortlessly, in addtion, keeps me in the state of extreme arousal for quite awhile. Ok so the hair thing? ANNOYING as hell but better than no sex drive!!!!!

i read somewhere and was told by my doctor/gyn that a woman should find out what age their mom was when she had her last period, then subtract 10years from that age.  that is a good indication when peri begins for you.  my mom told me she had her last period when she was 52.  well peri began for me around age 45, so it was not exact but close.  also, i have the bad headaches and hot flashes daily!  oh and my moods, watch out people!!!  periods are so sporadic and i never know when one will arrive, which i hate!

Just throwing this out there... My mom has suffered from hormone induced migraines for years. And even though they were "supposed" to clear up after menopause, they actually got worse. She's been seeing an accupuncturist for almost a year now and that has been the most relief she's gotten ever. I just talked to her the other day and she said she'd gone two weeks without a single migraine. (She was having 2 a week before she started the acupuncture - and this was AFTER menopause.)

It might be worth looking into.. but I also realize as others have said, every body is different. Good luck to you either way! Migraines along with the other nastiness that comes along with being a woman just plain sucks some times.

On Monday I came from work due to the migraine but saw my primary care doctor for an unrelated issue and he asked me about my migraines and when I told him he asked if I would like to try a different medication which made a dramatic improvement in my menstrual migraine. He said his wife suffers from them and although there are many medications for migraines most of them aren't good for you and he stated that there really isn't much that they can do to help woman who suffer from menstrual migraines. He said his wife went to bed at 2PM and didn't get up until 6PM the next night due to hers.
 
On Tuesday I came home from work due to the big boss thinking I have a virus since the cold and associated viral bugs are going round and we had our holiday luncheon and I didn't eat. That is due to one of the other symptoms that happen when I have my period which means spending extra time in the bathroom and not able to keep my stomach from being upset.
 
As for the comments about the hair growth and such..yes much more on the chin and lips than there used to be.
My sex drive is as strong as ever and don't know that menopause will affect it as it seems to grow stronger the older I get or maybe I am just more tuned in to my own sexuality compared to my younger days.
 
It is wonderful to hear the different solutions to the migraines. If my mother remembered when she actually stopped that would be wonderful but at 81 it is but a faint memory for her and she is one of those woman who never had any female problems. She never shaved because she did not ever have enough hair on her legs and underarms to require her to do so. She has many other health issues at 81 but did not ever experience any female problems.

FYI Ladies...the chin hair sucks...but my obgyn got them too and got a laser machine in her office - she has Laser Days every other Tuesday now...best $100 I spent for my chin...only draw back...only works on dark hair...my freakin luck...alot of my hairs had already turned white/gray...still waxing those buggers...grrrrr!  Worked great for the armpits too!

I was her first 'Telly Sevallis' for the groin....I love it!!!!

Plus, I had gotten the Mirena (IUD thingy) no more periods and love it!

I feel like I'm preparing for menopause...what a ride that will be too!
