Sometimes, I am uncertain about how we can do what we need to do to protect ourselves or those we love... not just in terms of 'lifestyle' or 'fetish', but every single day. This was brought home to me at the start of the week in a manner that was both brutal and irrefutable. On Monday morning, mere minutes after the rest of the household left for work and school, our home was invaded. My daughter was at home, since she works on a different schedule than the rest of the house, and woke to a strange man throwing her onto her stomach and taping her hands behind her back. She was then stabbed, assaulted, and strangled, and left for dead. She is in serious but stable condition, and we're hopeful that she'll be able to move to a regular room before the end of the week. The assailant stabbed her in chest and abdomen, and punctured her lung. We believe that he did not mean for her to live (especially because he did not prevent her from seeing his face), and it is only a twist of fate that allowed her to be found before she bled to death or suffocated from the collapsed lung. I would ask for all of you to be careful and aware of your surroundings. This man came to our back door, asking for directions. He did the same to several other houses in our neighborhood with young women in the household. We know he was watching us for a period of time to ascertain our family's patterns, because of some of the particulars about timing, etc.. PLEASE be careful, and make sure that your homes are secured and that you are aware of and protect yourself around strangers. This man wasn't "creepy", per se, and didn't look like someone one would be scared of, to see him on the streets. He also wasn't deterred by us being in a locked property, or by us being in an upstairs unit, and he wasn't deterred by an active, aware, busy middle-class neighborhood. ..so vigilance, etc., is important. Please take care of yourselves! Dame Calla
